Wanted to touch on this one...

THE QUEEN: a very good, if overrated, performance from Mirren and good dialogue. The plot itself and the way it was presented, however, just did not grasp me strongly. Which sucks because I normally love this type of movie. It's just that the biggest conflict within the film was for The Queen to make a public statement about the sadness over Diana dying which, to me, seems like a no-brainer and I couldn't really relate to her daftness over the matter.

I am a monarchist and also amateur Royal historian and while it does seem rather daft both now and then, I also can see the other side just from what I know of how Buckingham Palace works/the way HM was raised. W/her it has always been duty first. She, and her courtiers, all just went about dealing w/Diana's death as a private family matter. Which while it was, you are also talking about an icon of the 20th century and someone who was beloved by the people.

I'm not saying Diana did not have her problems. That is well documented, but the Royals and the machinery of the Court had not caught up to the 20th Century. You could argue they still have not caught up to the 20th Century as we have entered the 21st, but the mishandling of their response to the public in the days following August 31st, 1997 shows just *how* out of touch they had become.

That is what friends of mine, who share my passion for the Royals who have seen it, tell me The Queen does show excellently. I can't wait to see it for myself.

Really want to see The Departed and Notes On A Scandal really badly too.

Congratulations to Scorsese finally winning!! That was a long time in coming!!

I thought it was a pretty good Oscars this year. There were some upsets, the predictable and I really thought Ellen did a great job hosting. Yes, there were some duds, but not as many as others in the past. Kudos to her for pulling off what is the hardest job in entertainment and doing it well!!

OK, this is OT but the highlight of the Oscars (the 45 mins of ti that Isaw), for me, was my boy Clint TRANSLATING ITALIAN! Whoa! For Morricone who accepted his lifetime achievement award in Italian. Only thing is, the one full sentence I'm sure I understood... Clint really didn't even come close on. Making me wonder, did he just ACT the rest?

But hey, the guy is a composer and great director as well as iconic actor, so ANY impromptu Italian translation he might care to offer is just icing on his giant cake.

Sure, it shows how out of touch the Royal family was, but that's obvious. The film took no stance on whether or not the Monarchy is something that should have any power these days. Which means that all we are left with is The Queen's internal struggles and I simply did not find that complex enough considering there are at least 1,000 more compelling stories out there about conflicts that rulers and/or leaders have been confronted with.

I watched the Oscars last night and enjoyed them. I am not a movie fan unless the movie is really, really special so I don't go that often. What I want to know....... is Leonardo a good guy or what??? I really enjoyed watching him throughout the Oscars. I don't know much about him. Anyone want to fill me in on what kind of a person/actor he is.

I sooooo agree with this and forgot to say it earlier. The Movie was a HUGE let down. Particularly because I already knew the whole story of the flag picture so it didn't even appeal from the "informative docu angel." The only person who could have made this movie and interesting MOVIE (rather then a displaced timeline bouncy documentary with some fluff) is David Lynch. He could have made that a great film. Clint should have looked at the script and said no, this is not my style.

The Father son "crap" (acting, directing and script) at the end was ATROCIOUS. It was like a scene from Resident Evil THE VIDEO GAME.

I will go rent it tonight... I PROMISE!!! Just as long as no one in that movie puts their kid in a child BEAUTY pagent & fail to brush their hair.... grrrr... yes, I'm a competitive mom... my son always shows up with an extra pair of shorts, shin gaurds and water bottle... (and his hair brushed or braided or in a mohawk... hey, this is my son... nothing so simple has a neat hair cut)

But o/t... I simply loved the Departed... for me, it was the best whodunit / mobster movie EVER...

Ellen was a great host... if Billy Crystal never does it again then she should host for many years to come!

Spielberg not able to center a photo in a point and shoot camera cracked me up... as did the three amigo's little deal before giving best director to Scorcese - which I was happy to be wrong about...

There really werent any surprises unfortunatley.. I was really hoping that Little Miss Sunshine would win best picture. I do understand that this is finally Marty Scorsese's year. He was long overdue for an Oscar. I was happy that Pan's Labyrinth received three Oscars. It was a great film!

Lubezki got robbed for Best Cinematography yet again. I was so mad when Pan's won that award.

No it wasn't..Eddie never should have done Norbit or at least have it released while the Oscar ballots were out. VERY bad judgement call..it lost him the Oscar..

Oh I think he was being judged on the performance he was nominated for, but there were a lot of factors that were against him surrounding up to the Oscars. The contreversy on Norbit, very poor acceptance speeches and making fun of the Brits, etc.. Just not very smart moves if you want to win the top award.. I am happy for Hudson though....not great acting, but great singing and she made that movie playing Effie if you ask me..
