Figure Skating in Austria

Look what I stumbled upon on insta yesterday. Luc and Giorgia have been training in the US. And it's looking pretty good already! Wonder when they will able to compete (does Giorgia need to wait for a release to skate in pairs for Austria)?

And news from another new Austrian pairs team: Sophia Schaller and Livio Mayr debuted today at Tayside Trophy. Appart from a freak fall in the StSq, they were not bad. Of course the tech isn't there yet, but lifts and twist also didn't look as scary as they often do for new pairs. I am optimistic.
Here is the SP, with bonus coach Severin Kiefer:

It generally was a good day for Austrian skating - Olga nearly tied with Eliska, super close, in 2nd after the short and Maurizio clearly leading in Dundee!
Emily also had a good short.

Anyone else thought that Miriam and Severin gave Sophia and Livio some of their costumes? They looked familiar somehow and as we've seen that e.g. in Canada with Kirsten Moore-Towers, that could be the case here as well.

It did not get posted yet I think, but Schaller/Mayr did great in Nice today, they bested their previous SP score by 5 points despite a fall on the sbs jumps. Sophia was gutted, she clearly thought "god, where could we be without that". But they are in 4th anyway, so second group again!

And also postable (but I haven't seen anything about it) - Flora Marie Schaller (Sophia's sister) who had a JGP spot this season earlier had a fabulous FP in Nice, bringing her from the 10th after the short into 5th position! She had an easier layout and did this fawless and profited from harder and not error-free programs from others. Wise strategy!

And the two get 4th place here (as in Dundee)
Interestingly less points (not a lot) but to me they seemed much more setteled here. That will get better with ehery competition.

And I loooved that Sophia did so well in her singles short, 2nd place! :cheer2:
That may have helped as a good mental push for pairs, but there wasn't a lot of time in between to think anyway. What a schedule for her. Good luck for the free.

I'm so happy for Sophia and Livio and also for little Flora! :cheer2: Exciting times ahead for Austrian figure skating.
And let's not forget about Luc and his pairs project. Though I must say, I would miss him as a singles skater. He has been my favourite Austrian man for so many seasons and I can't wait to see him skate again in Riga. :jump:

Yes I wonder of he plans to do both for a while as well and how pairs in general is going for him as he is now scheduled for 2 single events.
We'll see.

Today a nice 5th place for Sophia, little struggles in the FP but I guess she must be quite tired now, two events back to back is not easy and she had 3 events in about a week. Bonkers.

So this weekend we have Maurizio and Anton skating in Bucharest, Steffie Pesendorfer, Daniel Ruis, Hannah Frank and several other young ladies performing in Slovakia, as well as the Huber siblings dancing in Italy. Streams should be available for all of these events. Life as a skating fan is stressful. :drama:
Good luck and clean performances to Team Austria! 🍀

Yeah... bit too much, the GP is on as well (not same time but.. ) :dbana:
couldn't they just all go to the same competition

ahh just read no stream for Hubers?

Steffie and Hannah were on fire today at Tirnavia Cup, claiming gold and silver, respectively. :cheer2: The foggy rink set the appropriate mood for the season and I can breathe now again after a FS weekend that was literally all over the place.

Oh yes! So good! And though both had been 4th after the SP with nice programs I was a bit surprised. I hope their programs now just clicked for them and that the strong PBs let them fly through the next tournaments :cheer2:

Austrians winning medals in Austria - and I am not talking about Alpine skiing.
Tobia Oellerer with silver and Anita and Andreas Straub with bronze at the IceChallenge junior competition in Graz. :yahoo:

Isn't it interesting that Austria can claim medals in juniors with already having got the ones from Dundee in seniors?
A bit unexpected to me, I had higher hopes for the seniors here somehow (also because, you know.. unpredictable, seniors like to bomb,..)

And not it's two(!) in juniors. Wow :dance3:
