I know. I felt the same (although I would have liked to watch Kevin Aymoz too), but at least we'll have the livestream - once they put up the ticket sale.
It’s a lot of money for a livestream. I would pay it... if I had any kind of assurance that the video and audio quality would be worth it. If it’s the same as previous years, then the answer to that question is a no. :-(

I love for them to have the opportunity to perform before Worlds in a setting without much pressure. However, I believe it when I see it. I love Team Russia with all my heart, but they do have a tendency to withdraw five minutes before an event starts 
I'm also curious about travel restrictions and possible quarantine orders. What's the situation travelling from Russia to the Netherlands? Then again, maybe they're already there. If they are, it just made the Challenge Cup a lot more interesting to me 
. I remember watching last year, as Mozer Team NL was already performing, but I'm sure I didn't pay a thing.

Can they collect WR-points at Challenge Cup? I just checked the overall one, and Kolyada is a bit behind the top skaters, probably because he missed out a season because of injuries.
Maybe he partly wants to go Challenge Cup to collect WR so that he can skate in a late group at Worlds?

I have a vague memory of that being the reason why Rika Kihira went to CC one time. ??
@LadyB the stream has always been free of charge, but this year they are charging the same prices for access to the livestream as we would normally pay as audience. Presumably because there won’t be any audience.
I have... very mixed feelings about it. Mostly because I want to support the event, but not if the stream is the same quality as previous years.

as far as i can remember Rika goes every year to CC
Well, twice so far, and I meant that first time. IIRC (?) it was her first Worlds that year and they sent her to CC so she could extra points.

Despite many high profile absences, I'm really looking forward to it, especially pairs. Sad about M/M's split (and wishing them all the best), but there are still a good few of my favs there, most of all Akopova/Rakhmanin, Mishina/Gallyamov and Pavliuchenko/Khodykin. It's so hard between the latter two, but I think M/G might have the edge. I love B/K, but both M/G and P/K have excited me more this season.
Men's should be a good competition as well.

I'm also very much looking forward to pairs. Very compact competition and basically just interesting teams. The two notable absentees does not bother me so much. The dance, on the other hand, looks pretty boring in this one. SinKat will claim the third spot at Worlds, and if they are only half fit, the judges will see out the rest of it.
The battle for the men's second spot in very exciting indeed. The field is quite open as you would expect with Russian men. Mark Kondryatuk is probably a favorite at this point due to momentum, but can the relatively unknown youngster keep it cool enough? And hot enough at the same time.
In the ladies the main interest is of course Alyona vs Liza T. It's not otherwise a particularly interesting ladies competition, but with only top twelve skaters, high quality is guaranteed. And for a Kamifan like myself, it's interesting to see if they change her FP layout now that she apparently has 4S in the bag as well (starting to look quite the formidable bag). And I want want to see her win a title and thus to (probably) end her competitive season on a high.

While Men's competition seems indeed quite open, among Ladies I will also watch intently Anastasia Tarakanova. She won't have a spot for Worlds, but if she's still on a good way, and with more practice behind (she could resume on-ice practice only in September), she may be impressive and then, the struggle for Grand Prix spots next year may become epic. She had a quad at practice while a pre-teen, and she has grit (well, a common gift among top skaters).

Channel One already announced their schedule for those in Russia:
“Channel One presents broadcasts from the Final of the Russian Figure Skating Cup, which will be held in Moscow from February 27 to March 2 and after which the composition of the national team for the World Cup will be finally determined. Competitions for women and pair skating will be broadcast on television, and the entire tournament (including junior performances) will be available on the Channel One website.

Women. Couples. Free Skate”
Channel 1 in most, if not all cases, also provides streams for the rest of the world. Don't see why it would be different this time around.

Thanks - even with some of the top skaters going to Challenge instead, there are still so many great skaters to watch so I hope it's available!

Oh yeah, each to their own, of course.But I think ladies category is the most interesting..
