We are going home now. What a game! We left all our nerves and emotions at Fisht. Both teams deserved the win. Croatia had more luck today. Congratulations! And kudos to Russia. We were much better today than with Spain. To score in the overtime after Croatia scored - you should have been there to feel the mighty craze of the crowd at that moment.

We are sad now. A small condolescence is that I am gonna save on tickets for semifinals.

We are going home now.

We aren't going anywhere, Russia has been home all the time. :)

After fighting all the way to the quarterfinals and losing in such a dramatic way, I can only root for Croatia, so that if they win the cup, it won't be that upsetting that we lost to the champion. Go Croatia! :)

This match ended up being so exciting. Too bad that Russia didn't win, but hey, I think the team exceeded all expectations, so good for them! :agree:

I predicted 2:1 for Croatia in extra time. But of course, Russians didn't go down so easily. They were well deserved quarter finalists. The match was great! Much more exciting than Sweden-England. My dreams for Croatia to win medal in WC became very realistic  Idemo Hrvatska! :cheer:

So who do we have left? Croatia, France, and Belgium. Well, go Croatia, France and Belgium.

Being a very good little Aussie, I am firmly on the ABE train.

Russians can hold their heads held high. What a team! They've contributed a lot to turning the whole event into a big party. I was in tears after the match, but we have to remember how nobody thought they'd make it out of their group and then quarterfinals just to go out on penalties, which is unlucky, not unskilled.
Smolov took a stupid shot, but Fernandes didn't even hit the ball right. Anyway, nobody should ever be blamed for making mistakes in penalties. I certainly wouldn't want to be the one to take a shot in front of your home crowd in the most important match of your country in years.

Now to semis: Russia's exit means I don't have to divide my allegiances any longer. Come on, England! I hope it's coming home (despite the Spurs impact :sarcasm: )

Yes, penalties are mostly a matter of luck and holding their composure together, a luck for goalkeepers, sureness in shooters. Russia has every right to celebrate and consider their team's performance as a success, because there was a lot of heart, passion, fight given to it. And the whole World Cup was a huge celebration of football itself: beautiful goals, spirit in teams, great matches, fantastic fans with their chants, costumes, dances etc. Only 4 matches left and I already miss the thrill of having 3 for a day to watch in the office at work:laugh:

The truth is, he was half of the Russian team. Russia needed a couple of players like him to be competitive at the quarterfinals. The best thing for Russia will be to build on their appearance in this world cup and the hall orginizing the cup thing. And not let be a firework. This team didn't have the quality of the 86's or 66's teams but it's up to them to make it a starting point.

well not a half, but he definitely cemented his flange. He was a Marcelo-type for Russia. He was rock-solid in defense c it gave Russian middfikeder more free space and ability to press high and be more creative to jump-start those counter-attacks fast. All in all Fernandes was indeed quite a catch for Russia this tournament.
