Free Dance

Well I'd be lying if I didn't say I was disappointed that D/L didn't get the gold. I thought for sure when the technical mark came up they had won. I just wish they had been more than 0.45 points from the gold. It would make me feel better.

But I am still very happy for them. I've been watching, and loving, them for years and I always felt they were overlooked. I hope that they don't retire because I would love to see them for a few more years.

From a live point of view, I think they were hampered by skating first in the group. Much of the arena was still coming in when they skated and it was disconcerting for them as well as earlier watches. IMO, they just suffered from lackluster. It happens.

D&S were at their best and Canada had a wonderful silver lining with D&L. It was just ,5 pt difference and with a different set of judges it might have been .5 pt in favour of D&L. For me, it was a tie.

The Americans were just off and that's that.

To me this Worlds is more memorable than that of the Olympics, to be quite honest I forgot how to spell the Russian and the Ukranians names already I think they put me to sleep during the Olympics!

That's not that hard, as a skating competition the olympics is nothing special (partly because of added pressure, partly because of poor last-minute training possibilities), it's the hype all around that makes people pay attention, but usually the best competitions (for skating) are the two WC's before an olympic year.

Tanith and her long-time boyfriend Fedor Andreev, broke up very recently, and Tanith apparently was very upset about it. Maybe that's why she hasn't been looking happy lately.
GASP! When did this happen/where did you read about it?

i'm so happy that Albena and Maxim won the gold...they waited so much for a medal and finally it's a GOLD at worlds!!! it was really a great ice dance competition but i'd give a medal to Drobiazko/Vanagas, too... :) they were so passionate as always...great perfrormances from top 5...

The most pasionate dance was the one that Albena and Maxim showed us. They were perfect. Have you noticed any technical mistakes? I'm sure you haven't! Can you tell the same for Canadians? No! The American couple's dance was like a walk on the ice. The girl is just good looking , but nothing else! So, you people from USA and Canada- open your eyes and face the truth! A country like Bulgaria has the best dance couple in the world! You can't denie it. The Canadians won their silver in Canada! And you are telling me that they deserve the gold medal? No way!

I'm not canadian nor american. I'm french (that means not really happy right now about danse ranking, guess why). And I do think that the best were the canadians with the bulgarians close 2nd. I absolutly adore those 2 couples (and Drob/Van) so I'm not nationaly biased.
Not that the bulgarians were not good. But I prefered the canadians' OD and FD. But I'm not shocked by Albena and Maxim's fist place and I want to congratulate them. Such a wonderfull team. They have been wise to choose to be associated with Linitchuk. It was the only way for them to get rightfully rewarded. Little nations have little choice but try to enter the diplomatic process by a way or another (no irony, look at what I've said in the thread about the french).
If I have to be perfectly honest, I think that Isabelle and Olivier's FD was more difficult but Albena and Maxim's FD was so creative that I prefer theirs  . (I absolutly  their bach/african rythm FD, nice, creative, so subtle, a pure gem and definitly not their first one)

If I must deny someone a place on the podium, it's clearly Belbin and Agosto. They certainly don't deserve bronze.

D/V have 46.5
D/L have 46.5
B/A have 46.5
Denk/Sta have 46.2
Del/Sch have 45.8

 D/V performed the best free dance, fast, moving, they were so close each other, beautiful, passionate, with a impressive technic
D/L were slow, and boring, well in technic, but it was as watching Titanic (movie), boring, slow and eternal
Den/Sta not their best but a deseeeerved gold (happy, happy:clap: )
B/A as always, flat ,flat, flat... a horrible flamenco, and a ugly expression (And believe me I know what is flamenco) and as always forgettable
Del/Sch perfect in technic, but don't reach the hearth, sorry for them, they need more passion

I love Kerrs and Faiella/Scali

I'm surprised that so many people didn't like Tanith & Ben's performance. I personally really love their flamenco free dance. That first serpentine step sequence is so difficult, and always so well done, that it honestly gives me the chills. I think it's a great dance, and I would have put them in second. I guess I'm in the minority, though.

Dubreuil & Lauzon were the best. Their free dance is just magic. I almost cried at the end, it was so beautiful!

Unfortunately ice dance also has the performance aspect included! Choreo, timing etc. D/S where good but they really need to get someone to tell them that they're lifts and choreo needs to more attractive. - and I'm not Canadian! Also kudo to D/V politics push them off the podium, they have the best twizzles in the sport and the 2nd best Program! If I were a judge I wouldn't be half afraid of giving the Canadians 9 for Choreo and Interprentation since it could hardly get any better!

I may get blasted for this comment, but I wonder if there isn't a more subconscious reason that Del/Scho keep ending up in fourth place again and again. If you look at most of the past ice dancing champions, the female on the team is likely blonde, slender, gorgeous and looks like an ice princess. Every ice dancing medal winning team in Torino certainly fit that mode.

Del is a girl that actually has some meat on her bones thank goodness, and while very pretty, she does not seem to fit that cookie cutter ice princess image expected in figure skating. I'm not saying the judges are pointing at her and snickering, but studies show that beautiful people tend to be subconsciously rewarded for their looks.

Maybe I'm just looking for an explanation on why they are placed in fourth repeatedly, especially in Torino where they should have had the bronze IMO. I am a huge fan of Del/Scho and wish they were given the scores they deserve. They are innovative and always intriguing and need to be rewarded for what they bring to the table!

There may be something to this. What strikes me about Isabelle is how muscular she is compared to the other Dance ladies -- I believe I read somewhere a few years ago that she teaches aerobic & exercise classes. And as Lloyd Eisler once said, "They want women in ice dancing who are 6 feet tall and weigh 100 pounds. Where these people come from, I'm not really sure."

Well I love D/S and I didn't think they were perfect, but they were the best. I liked D/L too. I think their program is more easily understood, and appeal more to the masses... it's simple (they made it seem that way tho it is not), elegant, and it really showcased their love for each other. I think D/S's program is more sophisticated artistically, and they skated it passionately and beautifully, but it's not something that appeals to everyone, it's harder to relate to. As for B/A, I like their attitudes, but not so much their skating.... they don't yet have that something that makes them stand out (unless u count Tanith's looks....). Well, I'm not Canadian, American, nor European, and watching ice dance just for the skating was such a joy. Congrats to D/S..... I was so shocked when they won, I was totally convinced that the judges would never let them get their due, but I am never happier to be wrong.

Albena and Maxim the WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!
