Gracie Gold

I like Gracie tbh. I like all US ladies, like Polina and Wagner.
The only thing I don't like about Wagner when she skates it's the faces she makes sometimes.
 
I get so irritated reading this thread. Gracie is in her second full year of senior ladies. She won Nationals, placed 4th at the Olympics and was in the top 10 at Worlds. That, folks, is not too shabby. And people talking about her choking, etc. Do you know how many skaters would love to "choke" the way she has this season? She's still a teenager. It just slays me the way people sit at their computers and rip someone apart. Why can't y'all just enjoy figure skating instead of trying to lambast everyone who puts a skate on the ice. There can only be one gold medal winner in any competition. Anyone else even close has done pretty damn good.

well Carolina was suppose to be a gold medal contender
yet she always falls in contention after the LP and wins up in bronze

let us not gang up on Gracie
who has improved her consistency in a single season
6th last Worlds - now 5th
an impressive 4th place at the Olympics
 
Look I like Gracie and wish the best for her, but not at the expense of other skaters who are are just as talented and have better achievements.

Carolina, yes, struggled. But honestly, she's come a long way since her past struggles and a lot more of her programs are memorable for me.

I think she had a case for silver too. She only got 1.10 points for that popped 2A. Base value on the 2A-3T is 7.40. The 2A<< she missed at the end was in the bonus and would have given her 3.63 base points instead of the 0.61 she earned with the fall.

So take away 1.71 from her FS score and we get 122.56.

Now add in the 7.40 (2A-3T) + 3.63 (2Ax) + 1 (fall) = 12.03. That's what she forfeited in base value alone.

When Gracie executes her 2A-3T well, she usually gets good GOE on it. At nationals and in Sochi she received 1.30 points in GOE. So let's be conservative and give her 1 point for GOE. (12.03 + 1.00 = 13.03)

Gracie's 2A isn't spectacular but it's okay, so let's just give her an extra 0.50 (13.03 + 0.50 = 13.53).

So when you break it down, Gracie lost around 13.53 points by missing those two jumping passes. If we add that to her 122.56 we get a total FS score of 136.09. Add that to her SP (70.31) and we get a total competition score of 206.40 which would have given her bronze.

When you take into account the PCS and the fact that they are always higher with a clean program, and the fact we were conservative with the GOE here, it's possible Gracie would have done enough to win silver ahead of Julia (207.50).

She skated well here but it could have been much better. It was definitely a missed opportunity but hopefully she's learned from it.

I do think she could have scored higher in the SP too. What's up with her landings? Her nervousness seems to have shifted from her shoulders to her legs. Prior to Frank whenever she'd get nervous her shoulders would go up and she'd end up falling. Thankfully she's staying upright now (for the most part) but her knees are are even stiffer than before and she's landing at a standstill.

I hope they work on that this summer.
 
Well, gracie didn't live up to being the golden girl many expected, nor did Kaetlyn from Canada. With Gracie her team is spending too much time on image and probably not enough on skating. After the short, I thought maybe Gracie was distancing herself from Ashley, but that didn't prove to be true.

She's only given one clean FS this year. And was in a pressure position to medal at Worlds. It's hardly surprising that she wasn't able to get it together.

She will get mentally stronger, and the Worlds will be a good experience for her to build to her next season though, and I think she will eventually get it together. But so far, she hasn't and there's no point pretending like she has.

How do you figure that? Gracie was struggling early in the season but after Frank took over she won Nationals going away finished 4th at the Olympics and had a chance for a medal at Worlds. Sounds like someone was doing their job if the skater is improving during the season.

Well, for one, Gracie lost to both Wagner and Edmunds in her FS. She was arguably lucky to come 5th because her PCS was even higher than the team event in Sochi where she was clean. Her SP was solid but 70 points was too generous considering the jumps were all below her usual standard and she messed up a level in a spin. Good news is that she is hitting her 3-3 with reliability, but her jumps have lost their usual height (more than one of us has noticed that), and she still has a lot to improve on (particularly her flip and axel takeoff technique).

I do think Gracie has improved a lot during the season. Not necessarily in terms of consistency, but certainly in terms of overall finesse. She can only get better, too.

whether her practices, competitions, fashion&endorsements, her beauty etc.
but not as a thread to make smear campaign and bashing to a beautiful fresh young girl

Fashionable?! She's dated herself 20 years with that outfit. The shirt looks like it came off a Macy's clearance rack. She'd look so much better without that (and the headscarf :unsure: while we're at it).

Although I suppose with that fortune teller headscarf she'll be able to gaze into a crystal ball and figure out which GP events she stands the best chance to win next season. :sarcasm:

Her sis is much prettier but what the heck is she wearing? An oversized white dress shirt and a neck scarf? Did she switched outfits with a plus-sized flight attendant?

18 = teenager. And transitioning into more adult clothing doesn't mean skipping straight into middle-aged women wear.

The pumps are alright, the shirt on Gracie with the nice pop of pink is nice, and I even like the scarf on her sis. But good lord, those oversized tops are totally unflattering. They look like they raided their mom's closet, for Christ's sake.
