I am certainly a fan but noticed at least on Internet his FS seemed slow and he was obviously having stamina issues. I guess this has always been a hurdle for him.

I noticed and please don't beat me Hanyu fans that he doesn't have deep edges and he is on the flat of his blade much like Plushenko was. Sometimes he flies and it is beautiful to watch. Can someone comment on this? Very different is the skating of Shoma Uno to stick with the top male skaters and keep it in Japan. Can a skater comment on this and how he gets these big scores when he is not going in and out of jumps using deep edges like Chan Uno Or. ?

I like this kid but was underwhelmed by his FS and I liked his last year program better. Perhaps he was much faster than I can see on Internet but I didn't see good edge quality and would like to hear from skaters about this and his scoring. Besides Patrick and Shoma who are the top quad jumpers with the best edge quality? And is it rare for quads jumpers to have deep edges while doing transitions in and out of jumps. Thanks. Just wanting to learn more about technique.

Oh yes, such "shallow edge" https://67.media.tumblr.com/230c188324f962dfb4b54669992402ab/tumblr_inline_ognqyrtq6Q1qaw101_540.gif

Then out of nowhere, he suddenly took off like a rocket from deep in the corner into a step sequence. He was doing the short program footwork sequence. Holy crap the acceleration was fast!!!! He took 3 strides and was at full speed!! Having seen this on the first day helped me later when I was trying to video his run through on practice Day #2, because I knew when to expect it, but the first time I saw it, it was such a surprise that I was rendered speechless.

No need to be snooty but yes I recall last year it was very different. And those few picks show the edges better. But it remains unexplained why he was not using deep edges in this FP performance. I'd like to hear what a figure skater feels about the FP and why he was not always on an edge.' Off day?

Oh yeah... he does not... http://i.giphy.com/GsbrAbsaDH26I.gif

Quoting MadMax who have watched the top men live several times (because he does not want to register to the forum):
Some don't know that you can't get effortless acceleration without using an edge? And Hanyu gains speed better than any other man...
I mean, you can't do difficult steps and turns effortlessly if you're not on an edge. Some skater has deep edge but he NEVER does difficult steps and turns! How the hell some try to compare skaters who mostly do crossovers to someone who actually does difficult turns?

It's 6.43 here and I had to wake up early unfortunately, but I have to say this thread has made my day !:points:

I'm bit scared that this thread will be yuzu bash thread.. but anyway it's your opinion.

Personally, as his fan I don't consider him as deep edge king or god of skills.. but I love to see his skating. His skating is very natural and flowing to me. I'm not judge and accept every scores he got.
And his this season's lp is very different from his previous Lps in aspects of different quad types, number, overall construction, theme, mood. I still prefer SCAC's stsq which was lv4 but I think his team did good job for adding more chores and transitions at nhk lp which many people complained at SC. not so much high levels but overall good balances. maybe cannot compare to seimei regarding degree of completion, though. I still think he need adjustment time for 4 quads and new programs.

At recent interview, Orser claimed that yuzu need to be a total package for high pcs(beat to his world record), and yuzu said that after he will be comfortable with his jumps, he can become total package finally. They communicated well and nhk lp is that proof of process.. I think. At least he and his team knows what they have to do and will progress through competitions. If you are disappointed with this outcome, I feel sorry and hope he can change your mind end of this season.

I know many fs fans appreciate skaters who has deep edge and great skills, and dislike technical process..like quads. but under this system, good edge skaters with inconsistency or non difficulty cannot be rewarded sadly. (ex, han yan, kozuka, denis ten come to mind..). And you said Uno, Patrick's edges. But judges give them good pcs when they are on tes.
Anyway, I'm sometimes sad that someone will never appreciate yuzu's skating and keep complaining scores, because he isn't their type skaters. but It' ok. And gpf will come, top skaters will be judged by same judges.

Are you kidding? Uno is the one who has flat edges. Hanyu's edges are much deeper than Uno's. And Uno has absolutely no transitions. I don't know how he gets those overscored pcs. Must be JSF promoting him at the expense of Hanyu.
In terms of deep edges, it's Patrick > Hanyu > Jason > Uno >>> Fernandez. In terms of transitions it's Hanyu > Jason > Patrick > Fernandez >>> Uno.

Not to get into an edge war but Uno has some of the deepest exit edges to his jumps and just see his spread eagle to triple axels and tell me he "has absolutely no transitions". He also has lots of spread Eagles in his program and I mean NO transitions?! Don't make me post a pic of his cantilever.

Uno usually lands on awkward positions with no flow. How does he have "deepest exit edges" with those awkward positions? Go check Meoima's thread to see how many crossovers Uno has in his program. Maybe you don't know what are transitions and think crossovers are counted as transitions. And it's so funny that you think his cantilever is a transition. That's part of his step sequence and it's NOT a transition LMAO.

I want to torture anyone who say Yuzuru has no edge to watch this over and over again, if they hate feathers then double the torture lol https://youtu.be/miiwu5_kVD0

I wouldn't call that torture. It's quite a nice way to die :laugh2:

Let's not turn this thread into a bash. It's meant to troll anyways :)
