sabinfire, I have your last vids installed in fan fests.
I know we already have a good version of Satoko; here she is saying Miyahara Satoko in 2014:

I would definitely like to have the 'best' versions available, so please do provide anything you come across that might be of better quality or better example than current versions. There is a lot of footage out there, and new stuff being created everyday.
Though, 'best example' might be a questionable criteria. I wondered about this when posting the Satoko clip. Obviously, Satoko's interview was being conducted in English, and she pronounced her name slightly different than if she were speaking Japanese. Since GS is a primarily English-speaking audience, and 99% of English-speaking persons will naturally pronounce Satoko in this way, I figured it would be the best example for our purposes. (And the fact that Satoko herself pronounced it this way would suggest she understands this too, and is fine with that pronunciation.)
However, this approach can result in loss of true foreign pronunciation in some names. Maybe close is good enough in this scenario?
For languages I am not as familiar with such as Japanese, the 'English-friendly' examples are preferable to me. But when finding Russian names, I always aim to find examples that are true to actual Russian pronunciation.
Just wanted to toss out this thought for opinions on which examples to focus on. FYI -- it's also possible, of course, to create clips that incorporate both variations, if available.
I am trying to gauge opinions on which approach to use for these clips. (Maybe, from your post, you do not have a strong opinion one way or the other?)
For me, if I watched clips of Russian names being pronounced with a Western accent, I might think: "That's not how it's pronounced in Russian..."
Maybe for Japanese, as an example, this is not the same. Or maybe I am analyzing this too closely?
If I were contributing to making the videos, maybe I would take a different approach than yours in some cases.
Well, I make the edits for GS (and doris), so I wouldn't necessarily think my preferences matter most. If you have suggestions, feel free to share them. I was hoping that my earlier posts in this topic sounded more open to feedback on this project.
I am not particularly familiar with many languages in the ISU, so I would probably defer to others who might be.
The problem is, it is difficult enough to find a single good example of a skater saying their full name, let alone multiple variations. AFAIK, the links you recently posted of Satoko and Yuzuru are the only two examples in this thread that offer the name in both their native language and in English.
Also, I don't spend a whole lot of time watching media/interviews in languages I cannot understand.
But my two cents, for what they are worth, are that it seems somewhat arbitrary to me that you prefer Russian pronunciations that are as authentic as possible, whereas you prefer Japanese pronunciations that are "English-friendly."
