Historical "firsts" for 2014-15?

She makes the jumps look effortless, almost as if she's merely lifting a leg and then simply turning around. Also, the fumbling around on the ending pose really demonstrates the difficultly of standing up straight on the ice while wearing ice skates. But mostly, I admire her determination for never giving up on the program.

Aren't you being a little mean? I'm not sure what kind of training conditions she has in Morocco, but I'd bet they're pretty awful. Maybe she simply wanted to be the first to take part in an ISU competition to get something out of the love for a sport that is getting her nowhere in her home country. It's not as if she was overscored for her efforts

I am serious... without proper training/experience, it can be difficult to even stand up straight on the ice. That was an interesting skate though... with a deduction for a fall, I didn't even know it was possible to go into negative TES... seems she didn't receive credit for anything, really.

Only the combination and the flip would have got any worth, and they may not have even added up to 1 point, especially if they called the edge on the Lutz. This must have been a REAL headache for the technical panel - they would have been trying to give her things, but she wasn't giving them a lot to work with.

Aw karne I'm sure you have the ability to get more than one element recognized by the tech panel, the scoresheet said only the final spin was recognized... she got 0.73 points for that

Single jumps aren't allowed in the SP on JGP right. The only element Yasmine got credit for in the SP was her final spin. Her score was mostly PCS.

I remember being caught off guard by this whole thing. First real event of the season...Zhenia already crushed it....the after the performances music cuts were wildly amusing 80's garage band sounding ultra lite rock and roll....every thing seemed normal and then Yasmine. Everyone went into their most polite erhemmmm........what the fo-hawk is going on here posts. I tell ya what though. By the end she made a fan of me and so I was pulling for her in the FS not to get the lowest total score record. She didn't give up and did not record the lowest score ever IIRC. Going back and reading thru the event threads during her skates is pretty funny though.

This is what Layback11 looks like skating...except that I don't have my lutz, axel, or a flying spin-credit or otherwise.

Her program is about the same as that of the pre-preliminary girls at my rink (who are all pretty near her age). Granted, these are kids who have constant access to reasonable-quality ice, multiple daily freestyles, good skates, and at least two lessons a week-and this is by no means a particularly good place for skating. But it's still in the US, where skating has a gargantuan following compared to what I'm sure it's like in Morocco...so the fact that she was able to accomplish that in a country where skating is virtually extinct is very admirable.

I liked her. Go Morocco!!! Yes, she let that spin get away from her, but what-eves!....She kept the speed going and seems to enjoy skating to the music.

I'm surprised it was the final spin they gave her, and not the first one, if they were going to give her one of them.

Ah, of course, I forgot about that. Must be doubles at a minimum. So no credit for the jumps at all.

Thinking the same. It's a wonderful token gesture for Morocco, but I'm not sure how beneficial it is for anyone to send a skater off to an event who is that horribly outmatched by the rest of the field. She wasn't even remotely close to the skater in second-to-last place...

I'm flabbergasted that she passed the junior test. But I think in the later on, there could be a future for Morocco in our sport. In 2012, I visited for several weeks and went to rinks in Rabat and Casablanca for quick visits. There are tons of little girls enrolled in group lessons (with mostly French speaking coaches) and the enthusiasm for skating is high. The rinks are quite nice and well maintained. Though I hate that she ever passed a junior test, I admire Yasmine's pluckiness and think she can pave the way for those after her.

Love this perspective. Yao Bin came in last in several international competitions (and it was a very distant last, if what I've read is correct). Giving skaters from non skating countries opportunities to skate in prestigious competitions isn't a bad thing, IMO. Good for her!

Financially... no, it's not beneficial. But this isn't about financials. This girl is not afraid or ashamed to be horribly outmatched, and for that, I admire her. 10 years from now, she can look back and say "I did it, I competed at the JGP" versus saying "I wish I had went for it". Although the cynic and comedian in us would snicker at the "competed" part, but at the end of the day, she still did.

If skating is her passion, and her family is well-off, then she could go train with a different coach at another rink in another country. If they don't have money for that, I hope she'll go on and be the Yao Bin of Morocco.

Wasn't Liza the first Russian lady to win the GPF, Euros and Worlds in the same season?

Irina did it in 2004-05. She was undefeated that season.

I don't know is it first, but no doubt unusual.

Reigning champions in female skating of Universiad, Euro, Worlds, Junior Worlds, winners of GP and JGP Final of one state - Russia. And not less than 2 medals in all these competinions, too.
Also reigning champion of Olympics, previous season.
