Well, tomorrow evening (Monday, March 6 @ sundown - through Tuesday evening @ sundown) is the joyous Jewish holiday of Purim. We read the Megillah (scroll) of the Biblical book of Esther & how she saved the Jewish people of Persia from destruction from the evil Haman. We dress in costumes & put on a Purim "shpiel" (play) complete with the reading of the Megillah & song parodies related to the Biblical story of Esther. I enjoy singing, so I look forward to participating in our synagogue's Purim Shpiel every year. This year's theme is "A Hoedown Purim," & we will be accompanied by a Jewish bluegrass band. In other years, we had had a variety of other fun themes - A Beatles Purim, a Billy Joel one, a "Hamilton" one, a Saturday Night Fever one, Sports Purim (I wore my figure skating gear - t-shirt & SOI cap for that one), Star Wars, Sesame Street, A "Greased" Purim, ... We eat a special triangular pastry called a hamantasch (named after the triangular shaped hat Haman supposedly wore). In Israel these pastries are called "Oznei Haman" - Haman's ears). Many Jewish communities also have Purim carnivals.
Once Purim is over, Passover is only one month away! Lots of preparation for that (special foods, preparing for seders)
Thank you for posting about your Purim celebrations! Very interesting to read about!
