Hotels at nationals this year

Hey, I noticed that all the "official" hotels for nationals this year are booked - at least for spectators. I know I shouldn't be surprised but I am a bit....I thought I had a bit more time. In years past, I've been able to purchase individual tickets and get a decent hotel and airfare in the same week if not day.

This year, I'm brining my mom - this should be fantastic. All those years she drove me from rink to rink and sat and watched. She did so much, this is a great way for us to share in our beloved sport. Plus, we like to look at the costumes and at times, be a bit catty (but quiet, you never know who's sitting nearby )

So, my problem is that my mom can't walk really far. Technically, she's disabled but can walk - just not far. And despite having lived in AK for over 30 years, she really prefers the warmer weather so I'm trying to minimize the cold exposure for her (aside from the rinks) We had hoped to stay in a hotel that was part of the bus route for nationals but it appears they are sold out. Any idea if they will open more rooms? If someone cancels, how can you find out and try and book their room? What other hotels are nearby? I've tried to google and search all this info and found some nearby hotels that will require cab rides and that's okay but I'd really like to know if they plan on opening more rooms in other hotels, naming another official hotel that will be on the bus line and how you can get a room in a otherwise booked hotel if someone cancels? What about the media or staff hotels? do they ever release rooms for spectators? My attempts at contacting the Org. Committee have been fruitless  Suggestions anyone?

Have you posted your request in the Nationals thread here and on other boards? I found a great deal before (not this competition) by posting that I needed something close by the rink.

I know our nationals board hasn't gotten a lot of info this time around about the area (seriously do we have any members from the MN area? LOL) but I believe FSU had a thread not too long ago on this very subject (though I rarely even lurk over there these days so I could be wrong)... that might help...

like I said on the other thread, I really have very little knowledge myself as I am rooming with two other people and one of them is in charge of the room thing lol

They usally have a shuttle bus running from the hotels and you can buy a bus pass once you get there if it's not included with your ticket purchase.

Google hotels downtown St. Paul. There are city buses you can ride within the downtown zone for 50 cents. If you want to know about bus routes google metro transit St. Paul and follow the instructions on their web site. (The hotel may be able to give you info about city bus service too.) Anyway, there are a lot of buses that stop witin a block of the arena. If you're staying outside the downtown zone, the fare is $1.50 to $2.00 depending on the time of day.
