I feel sorry for Mao

What's the motivation for her to practice 3A, or even a 3loop? She fell on a 3loop but still managed to get very very close to a 3A, two triple+triple clean Mao Asada.

CoP is distressful. It encourages Yu Na like who do not want to challenge the technical barrier.

That's not fair to Yu Na. She has the best 3-3 in the world and the best jump technique. Just because she's not at home training quads all day doesn't mean she's resting on her laurels. She's pushing the barrier in a different way - +GOE

Hmm, I think it doesn't matter whether Yu-na's team plans on training the 3A or a quad or not. At 17, if she hasn't started training it seriously already, she will never have them consistently for competitions -- that's not a statement about Yu-na, it's about human/athlete aging. If she does start next season or later, she will only exacerbate her back condition. Brian Orser said in interviews prior to GPF that her back problem was flaring up agan -- he said it seems to just pop up when competitions are coming around and the stress level is going up, and that all they can do is to be careful and apply more intensive physiotherapy. I think Yu-na will be lucky to keep the back problem in check while maintaining her current technical content -- Michelle was very careful with her hip, cutting back on the 3/3 and the number of competitions, and still her hip eventually became un-mangeable.

I agree with the posters who think that Mao has more mileage left to improve on her current skating. The double-footing seems more like a temporary lack of focus problem, rather than some fundamental jump technique problem -- her jumps are so easily rotated and landed with great flow. I also think that if she can skate her programs clean more consistently, her PCS will go up. She wuzrobbed this time!

I think in terms of overall skating quality, what Yu-na can most work on is choreography/interpretation. She can bring back the kind of complex and beautiful pieces she was skating to last year (not those exact programs of course), since this year she seems to have mainly focused on improving the jump qualities (and that paid off). Although I'm not sure that there's much room left in CoP to reward her for that type of programs... But certainly for the audiences they could be more enjoyable.

Exactly, one could ask what motivation is their for Mao to get her 3 lutz straight. I love Mao, she's creeping up there wtih me, and who knows one day I might like her better than Yu-na. Mao's hard to root against.

But Mao's 3 lutz looks like her 3 flip, and you know what the 3 lutz is the second hardest triple jump in skating. If Mao had a correct 3 lutz, and or a 3 salchow, she would be unbeatable. But Mao doesn't.

Feraina, I don't think that her back problem is the same situation as Michelle's hip.. Yu-na herself said that she was heatlhy. I just think it's something she has to be careful about, and as for the 3 axel, it's not like Mao is that consistent with it herself.

Uh, there's plenty of motivation for Yu-na to do a 3 loop. And I think there is some motivation to get a 3 axel because if she gets it, she'll be unbeatable. Seeing as with a 3 loop and a 3 axel, she'll be able to do 8 triples.

But I don't think it's silly for Yu-na's team to be thinking about injuries..

It's silly to suggest Yu-Na can master a 3A this late in the game. She does not even need 3loop to win based on those stupid CoP. She just needs to replace 3loop with a 2A to beat a technically superior Mao with 3A, 2 triple+triple...

The more I think about this, the more outrageous I feel about Yu-Na and Mao's free skate scores. Disgusting.

I'm not here to tangle with you, but you seem like a horrible person!!

Um, of course Yu-na needs that 3 loop, what if Mao cleans up her 3/3's and 3 axel. There's no reason for Yu-na not to go for her 3 loop.

Who knows maybe, she can clean it up enough, where she can put it in a combination someday (not likely but you never know)...

And for the record, the system doesn't really reward going for 3/3's. People have seen Yu-na land 3 lutz/3 toe in practice, but well since it's not going to give her a higher base value, no need for her to do so.

For the record nuts, I agree with that it's ridiculous that Mao isn't rewarded for going for 2 triple/triples. If Mao kept in her double axel triple toe combination, she'd get the same base value, and that's plain silly.

But that's the system currently, sigh..But in the sense of the 2 triple/triples, I wouldn't assume that Yu-na's in capable of putting in 2 triple/triples in her program...

I just saw Ladies FP on TV.
I wouldn't like to make comments like this, but I just can't help.

Yuna's FP
She had speed, a couple of her jumps were high, and had good facial expression in some part, but....
One fall, no 3A, no 3-jump combinations, only one 3-3, decent spirals and spins( They didn't seem to me as impressive as those of Zhang, Kostner and Nakano.)
Then she still earned almost the same score as Mao....

She gathered a lot of GOE?

Oh well....

Bravo to the judgement!

I agree Yu Na needs her triple loop. Mao has brought back the toeloop and I don't think it will be long before we see the sal again (hurrah!!). Plus she's pretty much done growing so I can see her jumps becoming cleaner if not by Worlds then certainly next season. She's done incredibly well to hang onto her big elements and while she's having trouble in comps with her consistency she's the exact opposite in practice where nearly everything is clean by all accounts.

As far as jumps go, Mao's biggest hurdle is the lutz. Arutunian needs to change the entrance to the one like Kwan did. That might help.

And I wouldn't put it past Mao to keep upping the ante with jumps. She still has the option of doing two triple axels if she wanted or replacing her SP lutz with the axel.

Netnuts, you are by far the most whinny individual on this forum. I am sick and tired of you constantly trying to discredit Yu-na's win. It's so pathetic that you would write idiotic comments such as "Mao should have won" or how "it's a scandal since Yu-na beat Mao." If you're going to sit and whine about how Mao should have far eclipsed Yu-Na's LP scores, then why don't you be fair and honest for a change and criticize Mao's inflated SP score. Yu-Na won this fair and square. She worked her butt off to prepare and win this yet uncouth people like yourself are always out there trying to make childish excuses. Yu-Na won this so fairly, it shouldn't even be up for debate. Get a grip on yourself, you sound like a zealot. It's sickening.

Congrats to Yu-Na for WINNING (FAIRLY 100 PERCENT NO QUESTIONS ASKED).

Net, I think that Mao is awesome, that triple axel is spectacular and those 2 triple/triples are swoonworthy..

Mao's jumping layout is definetly spectacular and well she certainly worked hard to develop that jumping layout. However, this doesn't mean that there aren't problems with Mao's jumps. For example, her triple/triple isn't clean. She has no triple salchow (if she had that she could slam the door on her competition. My suspician is that if it's not consistent by now, it will probably never be all that consistent) And Mao's triple lutz technique is just plain, not correct. The triple lutz thing is problematic. The lutz is the second hardest triple jump ladies do, and most women do not have a correct lutz.

The fact that Yu-na has a correct lutz, means she spent a lot of time working on it .Yu-na's jump layout is certainly not as spectacular as Mao's. However, Yu-na has text book jumping technique. Just as Mao worked hard to get a triple axel, Yu-na worked extremely hard to have textbook technique. It took a lot of work, and a lot of attention detail for her to probably develop that technique. And Just as Mao gets high base value points for her difficult lay out, Yu-na quite rightly gets rewarded for her textbook jumps.

Honestly, as a Yu-na fan, I am a bit worried because if Mao can clean up these things, she may be able to dominate. I'm hoping that Yu-na's team is thinking about these things. However, I'm not one hundred percent sure that Mao's triple axel well really ever be one hundred percent clean...., but who knows?

Who do you think you are to telll Yuna what to do. Really, it's none of your business whether Yuna jumps 3loop or not, whether she starts to practice 3A or not.

What a night. I just stopped by to refresh my mind after long, hard paper work and happen to meet the most mean-spirited person in my life. Thank god I don't have one in real life.

As one poster already made a good point above, that is matter between how to jump and what to jump.

Yes, Yuna didn't have have 3A in her program but her 3Lz got more point than Mao's 3A.
Yuna did one 3-3 and one 2A(which is categorized as triple jump)-3T thus can almost be categorized as 3-3.
Yuna got -3 GOE on her fall and Mao got -2.6 GOE for her flutz and two two-footed jumps.

So the bottom line is... you have to look into how to jump as well as what to jump.;)

I mention only about jump-wise because hey, if you are not impressed by one's spins, what am I to say anything about that?:)

Nice first post :sheesh:

Of course I agree Mao was way overscored in the SP. But what you've decided not to add is that it can be argued very convincingly that Yu Na was overscored too. You have to remember there was outrage over BOTH their scores after the SP. Also it can be argued that either Yu Na as overscored on her FS PCS or Mao was underscored.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I guess it just depends how you go about posting it :rolleye:

I realized that I didn't say anything about the topic.

Well, I don't feel sorry for Mao.
Because there are some margins that she can still improve(such as two-footing, flutz, Sal......) so it is not like she is stuck and Yuna is unbeatable.

Then again, Yuna also have some margins to improve.

So, it's just so exciting!!!!

Never thought I would quote my own post!!:laugh:

Thinking it again, I feel so stupid being so hot-headed over ultimate unworthy.
I'm ashamed of myself!!:p

I also agree that no lady in this competition needs to be sorry for. Everyone did their best and deserved what they executed.
If I was to feel sorry, I will be sorry for poor Kimmie who always being by chance skated after the perfect Mao(like in World 2007). She is a strong girl.
