I voted today by absentee... first time ever... it was cool

ended up voting for Murkowski anyway... Knowles is going to win though so what does it matter

I just felt very proud in finally getting to vote...

Remember to either apply for your absentee ballot or vote Nov. 2nd for those able to vote!!!!

Which party is Murklowski again? Congratulations on your first vote! It's nice to see people who take the privilege seriously.

republican party

Knowles is a nice guy, but I was talking with someone who worked with him (who isn't voting for either Knowles or Murkowski) and said that some of his administravie decisions just didn't pan out and he blamed everyone under him for not understanding what he wanted... instead of admitting he was asking the impossible seeing as how we didn't have fed. government backing on certain things... while some were good ideas he went about them wrong...

Murkowski annoys me and her campaign people are rude, but oh well I'll play the politics game with this one... like I said Knowles is going to win anyway

Way to go Toni! Now, if only my son's absentee ballot would show up in Iraq. He asked me about that the other day. I had to tell him that a lawsuit over whether Nader gets on the ballot kept the boards from mailing them as early as they usually do. If it doesn't show up by Sunday, I'll be downtown complaining to the board. It's only two weeks until the election and who knows how long it will take the ballots to get back from Iraq. Since he has other people from this county in his Reserve unit there, he's not the only one who was asking.

Of course my son would complain to me. Not only am I "Mom," I am also a loud-mouthed political animal. I'll not only be asking as "Mom," I'll also be asking for MoveOn PAC and the Victory 2004 (Kerry people). I better not HAVE to ask. I hope those guys and gals have gotten their ballots by Sunday. And if I don't LIKE the answer I get to the question I don't want to have to ask.......well, let's just say that lawyers and newspeople will then be involved!

Nader annoys me... the man just flat annoys me... he comes to Alaska saying he's "one of us" yeah right...

Toni, Nader annoys me too. But that is what he has done his entire career. Annoy people. It's his mission. Gotta give the man credit for consistency!

Wonder what he would call his next book on this election (and 2000)? Unsafe at Any Speed was already used (by him). Maybe he could call it part 2 or the sequel1 :D

"How saying stupid things makes me feel like an Alaskan"

too big a title???

the sad thing is the Alaskan Media feeds off of him... it's stupid... granted Bush isn't coming up here this year(he did 4 years ago) and Kerry has only mentioned us to certain groups but to my knowledge has never been up here(so where he comes off saying that he knows our current situation and will ensure that he will "protect" our state is beyond me... he's got bad info if he's saying our ecology is in trouble... it's the ECONOMY of Alaska, Kerry!!! [but we HAVE improved in teh last 4 years, I'll give US Gov. that but still ]) so I guess the media's just excited that one of the presidential runners came up

but he always comes up here to get one vote out of us (actually I think 13 people voted for him last time from Alaska... I think that's what they said on TV last night ha ha!)

Toni. WV is an economy vs. ecology state too. Our beautiful land has been strip mined to death. Reclamation only partly works. The result is a hill with the top removed and groundcover planted  . I would like to see strip mining outlawed and underground mining restricted to make it safer. To replace mining and our declining chemical industry I would love to see WV take better advantage of it's natural beauty. For example we have lovely ski resorts that have no indoor ice skating facilities. Why can't Canaan Valley or Snowshoe Mountain become figure skating training centers?

Get out the vote !

Hi guys - Please, please exercise your civic duty - those of you who are citizens of the United States - and VOTE next month for the candidates of your choice. As we learned all too clearly in 2000, everyone's vote is important, and every vote counts. Who knows what might have happened if more people bothered to vote in the key states?

God Bless America!

I voted for Nader 4 years ago -- just couldn't bring myself to voting for either Bush or Gore, and besides in Massachusetts it doesn't really matter who you vote for. :rolleye: But this year, he does annoy me, especially since I've read his appaullingly antisemitic remarks (article ).

I voted for Nader four years ago, too, but I won't be doing so again. However, and I say this in all honest curiosity, what is it about those remarks do you feel are anti-Semitic? He is harshly critical of Israel, but it isn't anything I haven't said about Americans in Iraq. On the hand, I'm not Jewish. Can you clarify more for me?

Laura :)

I am going to vote for Nader just to protest against the two-party system, which does not give us a real choice. Now don't throw eggs at me...it's going to hurt both candidates equally. In all honesty, I would have liked to see more of Nader- in debates, etc. so that I could have made an informed decision. It is unfair that one candidate is not even allowed to participate in debates.

The term anti-Semitism is used to describe hatred of the Jewish people. It is co-opting a term that has led to the untoward torture of Jews throughout the centuries to suddenly describe Arabs as Semites, and anything Israel does(or does not do) to Palestinians as "antisemitism". He is misleading people by using that term..

I detest any race based prejudices, and of course I confemn anti-semitism. From this article, Nader sounds critical of the US policy in Israel, but I don't see the remarks as anti-semitic. I love Israel but just because someone is critical of a policy, that alone does not make one anti-semitic.

The only reason I would have doubts about voting for Nader is we have heard so little of/from him, but that is the trick the bi-party system has been playing for generations. Unfortunately whether I vote for RN or not, it will not change the system. We need more candidates representing different parties and give us a real choice, or I may simply not vote at all.

Thank you, Bronxgirl. I wondered if that was it.

Toni,

You held back on us! Alaskans are voting on marijuana use and you, a college student, didn't even mention it. (not that it matters much....the feds will find a way to kill it)

Toni, Toni, Toni, we were all set to make you head of the Alaskan Democratic Party  and this is how you thank us? I am hurt. :boohoo:

If the feds could tax meth labs they could end the defecit, and fund health care.

I think it's a stupid idea and I voted against it...

I can only imagine what it would be like at the schools with stoned students all over the place

I haven't read about the Alaskan marijuana law that was propsed, but if you're concerned about stoned students, laws won't change that. If it is like the Caifornia law that was passed, the intent is to allow physicians to help ease pain and poor appetite of cancer patients and other chronically ill people. Of course, the DEA has stepped in to ensure that docs can't do their job without risking jail time. :sheesh:
