This is wonderful news, and it made my day! Ilia truly deserves it. I have admired his kindness and generosity towards other skaters for a while and it is quite meaningful to see him get the recognition he deserves. With record voting too! His statement on what it means to him was classic Ilia, but still so impressive and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Despite having a good opinion of Ilia's character, like most of the world I found his presence of mind and apparent sincerity towards Shaidorov to be jaw-dropping. Heroic, even.

I rushed to tell my co-worker/new skating buddy about Ilia's award (she discovered Ilia a few weeks ago), and she replied "I am so invested in him, isn't he just wonderful?"

I doubt I'll ever say Friday the 13th was worth it, but I know that Ilia cares about making skating more popular and the good of the sport and somehow he has done that even in defeat. I have heard various other skaters say they are inspired to keep skating and become better by what he did. It is a true testament of his character that even at one of the lowest moments he can show us the best of sportsmanship. You never know what someone is made of until things go wrong.

Ilia is a finalist once again for the ISU Awards Best Costume and Most Entertaining. I don't suppose he'll win Most Entertaining twice in a row but it is nice to be a finalist and get some fan recognition. I heard there was record voting.

As for myself, I am not emotionally ready to see Ilia compete again. Hopefully he is. I'll just have to tough it out and hope for the best.

He did so well! I haven't always been a fan -- mostly because of the "Quad God" thing -- but he looked marvelous out there today.
