Fun clip with IM on the Today show:

he shocked me for a moment... no concussion before Olympics or like ever please
Yes, please!🙏

ーー
Right after finishing his FS with seven quads at GPF, Ilia said, "Meccha tsukareta," which means "I'm super tired."
"Meccha" is a very casual Japanese word, and we speculated about who had taught him that expression.

And here is the answer...!

- When Malinin used the word “super (meccha),” it sparked speculation that Miura had taught it to him.

Kao Miura: “I don't remember exactly what I taught him, but I taught him quite a bit (laughs). I definitely remember teaching him ‘super.’ He also remembered words like ‘delicious’ and ‘right, left,’ so he must be studying pretty hard himself.”

I was at American Gold Live! in Philadelphia on Dec 13, and this clip of finale, especially the second half, is focused on Ilia. He was having fun with Alysa and Jacob.
Enjoy! 😁

A very interesting, recent interview with Ilia.

A very interesting, recent interview with Ilia.

Let's get through this one first lol.

I finally got to watch the Grand Prix Final - wow!!! Of course I’m disappointed the short program didn’t go the way Ilia wanted and the gorgeous 4A + 3T from warm up didn’t show up in the short program - but the free skate more than makes up for it! I’m so happy he achieved his 7 Quad goal! And they were all clean! New world record! I don’t know what to say except Ilia is insane and amazing and I’m so happy I get to watch him skate and achieve all these incredible accomplishments!
That was such an iconic dad moment when Roman’s first words to
Ilia after the free skate were about the level 3 step sequence :laugh4:

I can’t wait to see what Ilia does next!

I know I don't post here super often, but this is no indication of how often I think about Ilia or talk about his skating. I'm very lucky because my whole family became Ilia fans at the same time, so I can say to them, "Ilia did this combo in practice today", and they will appreciate what that means. I also sent a ton of skating videos to my one friend who seemed to like this, and she picked out Ilia as her favorite. I feel rather pleased at having converted another fan. 😁

That was pretty funny, iconic Roman. Ilia just did the most amazing free skate in the history of ever, and Roman had to bring up the step sequence because there was no reason to complain about the 4L this time. Dare I hope that Ilia has mastered the 4L now? The last two he did in competition were so good.

Some other things I wanted to say about the Grand Prix Final. I respect Ilia for trying the 4A in combination and have no regrets. Obviously it is in his capability and I have no doubt that he will succeed if he keeps trying. I'm excited that he tried a new combo and I hope he gets it done in competition sometime, though I'd recommend doing it in the first axel position in the FS so he can alter the layout if it doesn't work. Naturally, I wasn't exactly thrilled that he wasn't first after the SP but I wasn't as stressed about it since I believed he could overcome the deficit, which he did (and then some!). It was most concerning to see Ilia reacting in any way to pressure since he usually holds up so well, but before the FS I hoped that the experience of fighting back in the FS would be beneficial for him. He was good at this in his first senior season, but hasn't had much practice since!

I think it was a good experience? Considering that he came back with the strongest and cleanest FS you could possibly ask for. Even after all of his other feats, I was amazed that he skated through his glorious 7 quad FS without so much as a wobble, step back, or scratchy landing. All the superlatives have been used already, I scarcely know what to say. Is this guy for real? Is he even doing the same sport as the others in the final?? I feel so lucky to get to witness this. The cherry on top was the return of the raspberry twist in the change foot spin, which I missed at Skate Canada. I thought maybe it was a little too tiring to do extra acrobatics when performing 6+ quads, but apparently not! Is anyone else doing such a risky thing in a spin?! It was glorious, I just do not know what else to say.

I loved everything about Ilia’s short program. It was so wonderful. Watching his skating brings me so much joy 🥲

I just saw Jackie Wong’s notes on Ilia’s practice and he is having a bunch of issues with Loop, Flip, and Lutz. Jackie reported that Ilia was shaking out his right leg and left practice early. Now I’m panicking and so worried 😭 I sure hope he’s ok
