It makes me happy seeing THEM so happy out there on the ice and after their performances. That's what skating should be about, right? Just being out there and loving your sport.

I have to say, Elena seems much happier and more relaxed this season than I remember her in the past. It's nice to see.

They were entitled under the split couple rule to grand prix assignments thanks to where they placed at Worlds last year with their previous partners - this rule applies to skaters from any country, & also explains how Simon Shnapir & Deedee Leng got their assignments this year. As they have GP assignments, they get a bye to Russian Nationals, and didn't have to do the internal Russian Cup events. The only point where they have to completely start again is getting the TES minimum scores for Europeans & Worlds, which they managed in their very first competition.

Usova and Zhulin and Gristchuk and Platov, but it happened as pros. In pairs, Mukhortova and Lebedev and Shestakhova and Trankov swapped as juniors, and the new pairs won Jr Worlds in consecutive years. Shestakhova and Lebedev didn't last long and we all know what eventually happened to Mukhortova and Teankov.

I'm very happy for this team, and they're a nice success story for the IJS system too, as their first GP event was sloppy, but they clearly improved and were justly rewarded for it. I hope they do well at the GPF, but it's hard to say. This is probably the most interesting GPF for ice dance in ages.

Yep, once the shock and embarrassment wore off for him, it appears that this just might be the best thing that ever happened to Ruslan, skating-wise.

They are showing promise. They need to get the levels up on their circular steps and work on the lifts (they received a one point deduction in both the SD and FD for extended lift).
