Like with the Russians, I decided to go back to my old method of arranging everybody by absolute PB, and then working from there. But, with the Ladies, I was actually happy enough with the order that was produced.
Well, “happy” is a relative term. I would have been happier if Rika Hongo was a lot higher than 8th (like, say, 1st!)
You know, it says a lot about the depth of the field when there were skaters that I was expecting to be in the Top 12 that turned out to be down in the 20’s (e.g. Aoki in 21st; Kato in 22nd).
With the Men, there was a mad rush to get them finished, because the browser froze in the middle of arranging the Rink Results Bios, and I had to start all over again. :gaah:
Fortunately, things were made easier by the fact that the Top 10 by absolute PB were the guys I would have put into my Top 10 anyway, so that made life a bit easier as I only had to make tweaks. Although, I was surprised that Yamamoto was in 10th.
But I had a major dilemma. The same dilemma as everybody else doing predictions. Takahashi. Do I go with my head or my heart?
Given that he got a pretty decent score at sectionals, I threw all caution to the wind and went with my heart big time. I promoted him one place from his absolute PB position, and put him down for the win.
I like a fairy tale. And Daisuke is good enough to be up there on the podium. The win might require Shoma to make a few mistakes, but at the end of the day, ice is slippery.
In fact, that was the only change I made to the Top 10. Because, apart from a number of guys outside the scoring positions, the absolute PB’s were quite spread out.
That can actually be said of the whole field. Because the guy in 29th, Kousuke Nakano, had an absolute PB that was not much higher than half of Shoma Uno’s.
