Jason Brown

Fingers crossed, for sure. By and large, Jason has done fairly well at National level events

2007 1st Juvenile
2008 2nd Intermediate
2009 3rd Novice
2010 Won Juniors
2011 2 clean skates, with standing ovations; no 3a
2012
2013
2014 2 crowd pleasing skates, second in Seniors

2012 and 2013 he skated internationally in juniors and was struggling to learn his 3a

I'd like to toss a little love to the other members of team KoRo (Kori/Rohene) who will be competing at nationals this year. Tyler Pierce and Jordan Moeller are making their senior debuts. Mariah Bell is competing at the senior level for the second year. And, an honorary mention to Amber Glenn whose free skate program was choreographed by Rohene.

I've noticed that Jason has been mentioning Tyler and Jordan a lot in his tweets lately and think it's so sweet that he has taken on the role of big brother/mentor to them. I also think it will help with his/their pressure at nationals to be surrounded by so many training mates and friends.

The waiting is the hardest part

It probably helps Jason stay in his comfort zone more so as well. He gets to go with his pack of buddies this year. I too hope to see team Kori do well.

For fun Jordan Moeller FS from Sectionals Skip to about 4:32 to see the arm position I have been squeeing over He really does look like he is enjoying himself. Bit of an adorable ham I think, he seems to enjoy himself.

Also Mariah Bell's SP from Sectionals (cant find FS). I just love this program. It suits her soo well. Also, in case anyone is interested, David Lease on the Skating Lesson made a couple of references to Mariah on their nationals preview show lumping her in the top six firmly. Was a bit fun to see her being treated as a top lady. Granted it is just a gossip show, but when the gossips talk about you, you are doing something right.

Could not find a sectionals for Tyler Pierce unfortunately. :slink:

BTW, Jason is the more experienced skater, but he is only a few months older than Jordan M., and the two friends have trained together for eight years. I do think they help each other a lot :), but IMO, "big brother" does not seem like the right metaphor in their case.

Will Team KoRo have any skaters competing at Nats below the senior level? I thought so, but after scanning the list again, I think I was mistaken.

(In Greensboro in 2011, Jordan won the silver medal for novice men. Mariah won the bronze for novice ladies [altho' she did not belong to Team KoRo then]. But good for all that the setting will not be unfamiliar to them.)

I love that this is an unofficial Team KoRo thread! I adore Jordan and Mariah's programs this year. I especially think Jordan's FS is a choreographic masterpiece from Rohene. And this season Mariah's is my "happy place" program - when I watch it I can't help but smile (just what Jason's Riverdance was for me last year). I really hope everyone knocks it out of the park at Nationals!

Personally I think Jason would want his fans to love all of team KoRo. I feel like letting them creep in is what he would want so it is still well within the spirit of the thread.

And yes Mariah's program is totally happy place program. So hoping she knocks it out of the park at nationals.

Thx to karne for the photos. :)

So cute. Thanks for sharing these. Who is the skater in blue in the first picture? Who is the gold medalist in 2nd one.

Pretty sure that Scott Dyer is in blue in the first photo, which I believe is the 2010 U.S. Nats podium for junior men.
Dyer has competed at Nats as a senior man as well, but will not be in Greensboro. He placed fifth at Pacific Coast sectionals this season. I think he is a training-mate of Gracie Gold??

Andrei Rogozine of Canada is on the top step of the JGP Courchevel podium. Coincidentally, this season he became Max's training-mate under Coach Tom Z.

Why is Max on a taller platform than Jason if he took bronze and Jason took silver?! ...

Guess the carpenter(s) who constructed the podium made a little error?? (Max's platform looks only a hair taller to me, and the angle of the photo accentuates the difference.)

Agree that Jason would be tickled to see support in this thread for any and all his teammates. :)

That said, a reminder that another place to show love for Mariah Bell is her own GS fan thread:

For Jordan M fans, a long article from a few weeks ago (which I had posted it in the U.S. men thread):

Agreed, yyyskate, he even converted me and I was not a huge fan of T&I when I first saw it from Broadmoor.

From the sublime, to the ridiculous, the Avalanche Ice Girls skate with Jason and Mirai and others I can't distinguish (my video was very jerky and kept stopping). To "Footloose". Dear god in heaven, when did hockey teams get "ice girls"? Sigh.:frown:

http://video.avalanche.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=699&id=715250&lang=en

Thx for the Avalanche video, EH. Jordan M and Tyler were in photos of the event, so I imagine that they skated too. IIRC, it was not the first time that Jason and others have performed at an Avalanche game.

ETA, I forgot that Drew Meekins also performed at the Avalanche game.

Random FYI re some "ice girls" at the collegiate level:

USC Ice Girls is the spirit squad for the USC Men’s Ice Hockey team. Started as a collaboration midway through the 2010-2011 season by a few members of the university’s figure skating club, the squad immediately became a fan favorite at games and quickly gained attention, both on campus and in the national spotlight.
At USC home hockey games, the Ice Girls play a key role in the fan experience by energizing the crowds and assisting with in-game activities and promotions. We sweep the ice during timeouts and perform choreographed routines during intermissions. ...
As ambassadors for the USC Ice Hockey team, the Ice Girls interact with fans, family, and alumni at games, do alumni and community outreach, and appear at off-ice events.

From a cursory glance at their online presence, seems like a harmless way to stay involved in skating and performing. No more frivolous than a cheer squad for any other sport. (And BTW, the USC Ice Girls do not bare their midriffs, as far as I can tell.)

(Came across them as I was browsing around re Scott Dyer, who is or was a USC student.)

Almost 2 weeks left before we head to Greensboro for the 2015 US Championships! I feel so unbelievably lucky getting to walk into the rink every day & train with these 3 incredible people! Love you guys :) @mariahsk8rbell @jomosk8 @tyler___pierce

Great pic of Team KoRo's senior army! Really hoping to see them all do well. I wonder if any will get to go to 4Cs at least. I suspect Jason will be going to world's (he did best in the GPF by a lot and as for Challenger, pretty much everyone got gold so hard to compare). I don't know how likely some of the other top guys are to do both worlds and 4Cs, but I could see Jason going to both as he has not been to 4Cs yet, those pesky Olympics got in the way last year  so I could see Jordan having a chance. As for the ladies. . .well who knows.

FYI, only 2015 Nats will determine Jason's fate re 2015 Worlds -- if USFS sticks to its published criteria, which include neither GP (except GPF) nor Challenger results. (Nor Sochi results.)

Led to a mutual lovefest on Twitter, with the other three replying with their agreement. :)

But it does influence the judges.

If you wanted to twist hairs he is the only USA guy to be a GPF alternate two years running. That is something. More than the other guys have other than worlds, which really seems unfair to give an advantage to them over Jason but who knows what goes through the minds of the powers that be.

Well, I for one hope that if Jason wins Nationals, it's because he's absolutely blown it away, and not because of reputation overscoring.

Technically he is way underpowered if Max, Joshua and Ricky go clean.

I would also rather he won out of his own merit rather than being king of splat fest hill (as one of many examples of what might happen). But in a close call type situation I do think even if only on a subconsciousness level, season showing can come into play.

You could argue he is underpowered if Jeremy manages to go clean with a quad. But who knows, and PCS is PCS which is a whole other rabbit hole to dive into. Heck if we are playing this game Adam Rippon can out gun him with a quad. does anyone else always hear the word quad in a duck quack voice while they read it?

The thing is what we have seen of Jason at his worst, is still pretty damn good. The gap between good day Jason and bad day Jason is just not as wide as it is with some of his competitors. His lowest SP senior score at Rostelecom was 76.32 Max Aaron's personal best (due to under appreciation!) is 78.96, point being his worst is still not that bad. I just don't see enough guys all having two "on" days to have three of them beat him. I am not saying he is a run away for gold, but I do think that realistically top three, based on his track record and his competition, is not exactly unlikely. I will be rooting for him to win, but I don't know if I will be nail biting too much about making it to worlds. I think I need to pick up some Irish whiskey in his honor to enjoy while the competition is going.

As for the rest. . . who knows. I wonder if Abbott might be given one more chance, his international reputation is enough that he likely would do well enough to make three spots for 2016 doable. I think my realistic wishlist is any order of Brown Aaron and Dornbush . . . . . Maybe we will have a podium of Max Aaron, Jason Brown, Nathan Chen, and Richard Dornbush. We can go all alphabetical!

But wasn't Max clean at last Nationals, and wasn't Josh also nearly clean? And didn't Jason beat both of them without a quad and without any reputation over scoring ? Do you think his current programs are technically weaker than last year's, or that Josh and Max have stronger programs technically this year?

This may well not be Jason's year to win, but honestly, to date, the other two have not performed brilliantly, either.

No, and no. Neither were clean. You could see the look on Max's face as soon as he finished - he was adding up the mistakes in his head. He didn't make many, but he made enough, Jason skated well enough, and Jeremy skated (barely) well enough to give the excuse the USFSA needed to leave Max off that Olympic team. Josh was nowhere near clean.

I think both Josh and Max have technically stronger programs this year - and artistically stronger programs too, even if Max's SP score seems to be inexplicably going down the better he skates it. Jason's Tristan is magic, but IMO his Juke is a woefully immature mistake. I would not argue against Jason getting a medal. But if Jason and Max went head-to-head clean, I would be really, really angry if Jason won.

I wish the best for Jason at US Nationals because his LP is my favourite this season.
Go Jason! :cheer:

As a follow up to your thoughts StitchMonkey, internationally (at least by the numbers), Jason is already the number 1 US male for the season:

Top American in the ISU season ranking and only American in the top ten
Top American finisher in the Grand Prix series

A quick comparison of Jason's international results for the last 2 seasons:

2013/2014
Nebelhorn - 2nd
Skate America - 5th
Trophee Bompard - 3rd
Olympic Team - Bronze medal
Olympic Individual - 9th (top American finisher)

2014/2015

Nebelhorn - 1st
Skate America - 2nd
Rostelecom Cup - 5th

Mrs. P did extensive number crunching in the State of U.S. Men's Figure Skating for 2014-15 thread and Jason clearly came out on top there as well.

As I've mentioned before, Jason is the reason I've returned to the figure skating fandom and I am routing for him but I also want him to skate to his potential and win on his own merits.

:cheer2: Go Jason :cheer:
