I noticed when combing thru the CoR footage that the crowd was constantly clapping. To the point that during the video I made I was being distracted. The same at US nationals but almost the same appreciation was given in Russia. I'm not going to lie. I was a little surprised. Maybe a different level than at home but it was undeniably visible to me.

Kinda like when people around here talk about "skating", chances are they aren't talking about skateboarding.

Can I say how nice he is in person? We went to Skate America. At the airport on the way home, I got pulled out for random screening. My 12 year old DD says "Look Mom, that's Jason Brown." I say where? and she points at a guy 3 in front of us wearing a gnarly old snowboarder hat and John Lennon wire rim glasses. I say"Really? Go over and say hi and I'll be along as soon as i get thru". They had a lovely chat for about 15 minutes. Of course by the time I got out of security he was gone, so no pic. But it really made the trip for her. He ws very sweet and funny to her.

The audience in Sochi was different. Many of them were not skating fans but locals and those who got tickets.

I was originally not happy with the CoR selection for Jason because I remembered that joyous SP being met by thunderous silence (or at least tepid applause) at Sochi. But as pointed out upstream, it appears that was due to the Olympics audience not necessarily being a figure skating audience. I was glad to see that the Oly audience did appear to be an outlier.
