That actually does not seem that odd to me. Rather than thinking about how to land the jump or worrying about falling, your mind is thinking about setting up for the next jump... and you have to land the first one to enter the combo. I could see some skaters having an easier time not psyching themselves out with a combo as it gives them something else to focus on rather than so much pressure on landing the jump. It could be a way to trick your brain so to speak - you dread/worry too much, your mind has a way to make it happen. I could see how focusing on setting up for the next jump could be a way to avoid focusing on self-doubt.
on a totally unrelated note... i just loved the little intro side step Jason does in his SP so much I had to gif it.
