Jason Brown

Thanks - that is interesting.

(I understand that Lambiel's spins, for example, would cut little ice in today's system. That doesn't make me think well of it, to be honest. But this just an aside.)

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but sometimes I like to watch Jason's Riverdance FP from 2014 Nationals on YouTube before I have a test I'm nervous about to just calm me down and make me more relaxed.

Like right now. I have a physics test in 30 minutes and I just watched the video and I feel a little more relaxed now.

He did say about a couple of the skaters that it "wasn't quite there" or "didn't quite work today", which was as negative as it got, if you could call that negative! It would be refreshing. Like an American version of the British Eurosport commentators.

I just chalked Jason's darker hair down to even more product and didn't think more of it.

We must be on the same wave length, karne. I was thinking he'd be like the British ESP guys. That would be so refreshing ... but I want to see him skating for a good long while first!

The darker hair could be more product, since he's said he has to use a lot. Could be he was in the sun less this summer. It's hard for me to imagine he dyed it, but I guess it's possible. The other thing that occurred to me is a personal experience. My younger son's hair was white-blond when he was a baby, then it got progressively darker. I think it was still getting darker into his later teens. Everyone is different in that way. I remember this especially because my sister, who only saw him every year or two, was always amazed at the change.

Skylark, Jason does appear like your son (and my spousal unit), in that he was a blond child (although not he was not quite a towhead, like your son and my hubby) who went brown as the baby years melted away. (I always used to describe spousal unit's hair as that color brown that women dye blond because they once were blond and don't like the current non-blond. Female friends would always get it).

But it is interesting that your son's hair continued to darken even after his late teens. I would chalk Jason's up to that or product; I can't imagine Jason at the hairdresser every month for an hour plus. He needs to skate!

And how are we going to wait a month for another Jason skate:drama:I've been spoiled!

I know! But I never get tired of re-watching Riverdance, so I guess I can cope. I will try to be patient, and think of Jason, Kori and Rohene ironing out the kinks in the program and making it more sublime day by day. I "discovered" a new skater at SC: Alexander Petrov. He has a very different style from Jason's, it seems more classical as opposed to Jason's innovative, joyful style; but he gives me the feeling that the musical feeling and depth come from a genuine place, as Jason does.

I forgot to say that my son's hair did finally get so dark that it now appears almost black. And now that you created the image of Jason at the hairdresser? I can't imagine he'd be able to sit still long enough to get it dyed!

You guys, we must be really bored to talk about this! I agree both that hair can change over time, etc. However:

I have super-straight hair so I'm no expert on curly hair products. But it doesn't look like he's got gel or anything else on his hair in any of these clips (Karne, El Henry - do you agree?) I suppose it could be the lighting, but to me his hair looks much lighter in April-May than it does in Sept-Oct.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure that Jason is darkening his hair . Not that it matters, I hasten to add :). I know that we all love Jason, no matter what color his hair is. :ghug:

Sorry that I have not clicked on papagena's links, but here are more visuals:

Jason's lighter roots can be seen here:

And sitting still long enough for a professional to work on his hair would not be a new experience for Jason.
He was able to sit still long enough to get these elaborate cornrows/braids  over the summer:

ETA, part of Jason's comment at the Instagram link above showing his June 'do with the epic braids:
... Always lots of fun to mix things up a bit! ...
So maybe he has just been wanting to do something different with his hair -- and he ultimately decided to go with darkening.

Echoing what papagena said: Jason's hair still looked darker (IMO) when it was free flowing for his exhibition program at Skate America. I would guess that he could use fewer products and/or less product when he is not putting his hair into a ponytail. So I doubt that the darker color can be chalked up to product.

As for the time commitment necessary for trips to the colorist, no reason for concern there. World/Olympic champion Charlie White kept his hair lightened during his competitive years.

Good one, Golden - didn't notice the roots. And I so love that picture of him and Athena, so thanks for posting it.

Like you I don't care if he does or doesn't color his hair.

Ha ha, maybe we should get Dave to ask Jenny. They did interview him at SA so I bet she has an opinion!

Hey papagena, I'd love to hear your SA thoughts on Jason when you have a chance!

Add me to the group that thinks he is darkening his hair. Though if you go back at look at Riverdance area clips and pics, it looks darker to me there as well. So I think he has darkened it in the past as well. I also think it is a heck of a lot more common on male skaters than we seem to think. They are in the public light (or a public light) they want to look good, I am sure they put time and effort into it.

It is also *possible* that his hair lightened a bit over time after moving to Colorado. Higher elevation means less atmosphere for the sun to filter though. It could be that last year at some point they noticed his hair was getting lighter after a year of exposure, went with it for awhile, but at some point decided to try to dye it back to what it was before moving.

With Jason's hair in this specific instance.... i don't mind if he dyes it, but I think this dye job could have been done better. This looks a little bit like just a department store box done in his own bathroom. Natural hair usually has variance in shades between strands and is not a flat one color, Jason's hair normally has a lot of this variance and I think much of it was missing at SA. If he wants a darker shade/tone, he should get it done by someone who knows how to keep some of those highlights and low lights and preserve the natural slight variation in tone and shade so that frankly, it looks better. His hair can be black, brown, red or blue for all I care, but I would want it to look like a professional high quality well done dye job. For lack of a better way to put it, I think it is fine if Jason wants his hair dyed... I am not so sure I think it is fine for Jason to be doing the dye job unless he has had training.

There is a lot of possibility here...and i think it is a sign Vincent needs to start posting Instagram clips again so we have something else to discuss... i still really want to see a side by side quad from Jordan and Jason.

I second that - we definitely need more clips! It's not a week since his last competition and I'm already getting withdrawals :drama:

Mrs P I am so sorry for not posting about SA. Tonight, I promise.

By the way guys, since I post here most frequently, just a heads up that I decided to change my user name to Tavi so that it's the same here and on FSU.

Thanks for the promise of a report, Papagena/Tavi; I can just *see*, taking from the other thread, a group of giggling tweens following Jason around the concourse.:hap85:
(and thanks for the name change for those simple souls like me who have been previously confused.)

We definitely need another vid from Coach Vincent too; the minutiae which Jason fans will discuss when in the skating desert....

But to continue down the rabbit hole of discussing Jason's hair, with all the clips kindly provided, Jason is doing something. If Jason's curls are a 10, mine is a 7 or 8, and (back before the natural silver highlights :) ) product didn't noticeably darken it (although maybe I shouldn't say, because it was never as light as Jason's, just always dark). I preferred Jason's golden brown look, but if it makes him happy, all of any of us want is a happy Jason, right?

Then again, I would imagine Kori has at least highlights, (am I wrong?) and whoever does her hair is doing a *fantastic* job. So she needs to take him to her hairdresser:biggrin:

Right Kori's hair changes a lot - she's been red, dark brown, highlighted etc. And yes I agree with you and Stitch that he can do better than the flat "I bought this hair color at the drug store".

Did you all deprived fans see the brief interview Jenny & Dave did with him at SA?

His answer to the question "why should fans vote for you" is pretty funny and shows the merest hint of a healthy ego. Go to the menu in the left hand corner of the Max Aaron clip. I think he's #16. They've also got his first practice in several sections.

It looks like they're trying to see who has the best port de bras. Or something!

I think they're taking bows; perhaps at the end of the session? I've noticed a lot of high-level skaters tend to do that sort of thing.
