Jason Brown

Men's practices start Tuesday, so it won't be too long before we find out!

Both NHK and GPF had improvised elements in the second half due to errors. I still have the theory that the errors are more trying to integrate the quad/the complexity of the programs than anything else. Looking back at his GP season leading up to 2014 Nationals it wasn't all that different, except he was a first year senior internationally so people had fewer expectations for him.

I realize in hindsight that the SP in the 2013-2014 season (Prince) was consistently clean because it wasn't a new program. There isn't any difference between Jr. and Sr. in the SP, so it essentially was the same program. This time around he has TWO new programs and neither of them are easy. I'd argue his Hamilton step sequence is just as hard, if not harder than Riverdance.

I am really hoping that we do get practice reports! Also, am I crazy, or was there a live stream for some senior practices last year.

I’m kind of bummed that they’ve apparently decided not to publish the media teleconferences this year, and that there have really only been a couple of tweets from Lynn R and Bev Smith giving us bare bones info from the calls. I wonder if that’s to protect the skaters from extra pressure, or if USFS / NBC maybe decided to hold them back because it’s the Olympic year, so that there is more drama / suspense about who will win? I don’t know if that ever happens.

Anyway, I think you’re really right about Prince being a second year program. You can see same thing with Piano. If you compare his first year with it to last season, there was a big difference in cleanliness, even when he added the quad. In a way I think it’s unfortunate that this isn’t his second year with Piano, because even though this FS builds on it and uses many of the same elements, the choreography is different and harder. And it just isn’t trained into his body as much yet.

I also agree that his Hamilton Stsq is really hard! I’ve thought so since I first saw it last summer. But he really does seem to have it pretty much in his body now - I think with fewer elements than FS it was just easier to master (although there’s still room to grow).

I really hope that - as with Riverdance which took him forever to get close to clean - he has now managed to get the FS enough into his body that we’ll see a clean or neatly clean version next week. Fingers crossed!

Based on Jackie's practice notes, Jason's planned layout for the FS
4T
3A
3Lo
--
3A-2T
3Z
3F-3T
3Z-1L-3S
2A

The Skate Canada layout was

4T
3A
3F
---
3A-3T
3Z-1L-3S
3Lo
3Z-2T
2A

Pretty good moves, I think -- moving up the 3Lo and bringing back the money 3F-3T combo (though he is capable of doing the 3A-3T, as we saw at SC, but I can't blame them for bringing the combo back). Though I'm interested to see how the choreography will work with a 3F-3T instead of the 3Lo.

Somebody on FSU reported that Jason skated beautifully and that his 3As looked really good. When I saw Jackie’s notes on the run through I was a bit concerned - popped (or marked?) 4T and turnouts on both 3As. So it was good to get an impression from the rink from someone who clearly loved what he was doing.

Re the layout: it was a great idea for them to put the loop in the first half! But I wonder how the 3Z, which comes where the music is really building, will work there. Maybe with a big transition? It will be interesting!

There's a video!

It works WAY better. It look like they eased up a bit on the transitions (though there's still plenty of them) a bit. It wasn't perfect, but he actually looked pretty good out there and yes, the audience was definitely on board.

Ooh can’t wait to watch thanks!

I somehow missed this tweet from Jackie with positive thoughts about Jason’s trajectory - and 3A. :)

ETA I love the loop in the first half - it works perfectly! Have to go back and watch again for the rest. Thanks for finding this!

ETA 2 - it does work much better. The st sq is gorgeous! He’s doing a lot more crossovers, but if needs to do them to get the jumps, so be it. Happy!

The back of Jackie’s head makes a cameo appearance! :)

Huge. :thank: :thank: for the videos!!
If we get the storm we may have no power for some days.. drat!!
So these videos will be a blessing & godsend..
Sending Jason good vibes and good luck wishes!! So exciting!!

Good luck to Jason. Fingers crossed that all goes well and he is on the Olympic Team!

I'm trying to enjoy the lower-level skates without stressing about Jason too much so I haven't been seeking out too many details of his practices. But I naturally wish him the best and I'll be cheering him on tomorrow! :)

ETA: I do like the idea of a smirk. :)

Are you in New England or the Jersey/Delaware coastline? (One of the very few times that Delaware will get more snow than northeastern Pennsylvania ) At least you're not in Erie;)

Hoping the power stays on for the important things like skating!

So great to see!

Otherwise I was just thinking to myself that I should find out when the SP is... and then I realised that, no, I actually don't want to know. Yes, I'm weak. After the season that has already been, my nerves are shattered, people!

So, I'll just leave general good wishes here for Jason - may he peform, jump & smirk amazingly! Go, Jason!
