Jason Brown

So I’m at work and can’t turn up the sound. Per comments, what is it they were up to? I remember really liking it in Riverdance when Jason did a hydroblade into a 2A. This looks like a 3z - might be called ! though! :)

I turned up the volume as he/she said to do, and used my headphones, and still couldn't pick up what they were saying over the music. :scratch2: Fun video, though. I'll watch as many of these as are posted. :)

The hydroblade into the 2A is one of my favorite moments in Riverdance. :)

I couldn't listen to it at work and when I tried it at home I picked up a word or two over the music. I did hear Jason say, "I'll do it" right before he did the hydroblade / jump combo. I'm really enjoying these behind the scenes high quality videos too. :)

Semi-off topic ... This would be a great weekend to live in Chicago. Jordan Moeller's charity show "One Skate at a Time" is April 28th, Stars on Ice is April 29th and my favorite film composer John Williams is co-conducting a series of concerts of his music with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on April 26-29. If anyone from the board is going to any of these events, I hope you have a great time!

Darned if I know what they’re saying....

But I did like OnIce Perspective’s comment, even when Jason’s off, he’s on:biggrin:

And I’m so old, when did “Hope” become a statue? I just remember the original “Love” one in Philly.....:scratch2:

Dreaded double post, but completely different subject:

Interview with Jason for "Windy City Times" in anticipation of Chicago SOI.

http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/...-Brown-talks-Chicago-Stars-on-Ice-/62722.html

The author actually asked why he didn't go to Worlds. "No, it wasn't because of injury. With everything going on—like competing at the Grand Prix and the timing, along with the disappointment of [2018] nationals [where Brown finished sixth]—I had to withdraw when I was called up to worlds. I had to step back a little back—but I can't wait for Chicago to see this show, because it's really, really awesome."

So, no definite news (surprise;) ) but at least it was a mental block, and not a physical block. Many of the questions are focussing on pop music, but they transcribed Jason almost exactly with the "Oh my gosh" and exclamation points. "Sounds" just like him:biggrin:

Kudos to the reporter for asking, but that wasn’t a very good answer.

Given that he still hasn’t put up the promised video discussing the end of his season, it seems like he’s still not fully ready to deal with it.

I hope he finds his way. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that he’s not competing next season.

It sounds like he was ready to move on from a so-so season. And if he wasn't going to compete, why would he even announce that he's working on a new short program?

I know I’m going to sound old and grumpy, and, yes I can hold onto disappointments for *years*, but when you do something like skip worlds, you should have an answer ready, maybe?

Although I do have to smile, Jason’s deflection at the end was typical Jason “And the show will be awesome, just awesome!” It beats, “Look, a squirrel!”

He's not really using the disappointment of not making the team as an excuse, is he?

Because a) it didn't seem to worry him at 4CC and b) it's not like the other alternates were all happy happy joy joy about it!

That quote isn't written verbatim. I found it really hard to read with all the pararenticsl content.

I honestly think he simply meant that he was spent and didn't feel his heart was in another competition. He had redemption st 4CC. Maybe he wanted some time off to think. I think that's reasonable after a challenging season.

The only parentheses in that quote were some clarifications that in no way changed any aspect of what Jason said.

I really hope that when, if at all, Jason does talk about the end of the season, it's a clearer explanation.

Jason said he wants to be around for 2022 Olympics but is taking things day-by-day.. sounds to me like he just wants to recover the joy he connects with skating that may have been lost during this last season... and Jason is all about the joy of skating, that's for sure!! Makes sense to regroup, develop jump technique, strategies for long term competition... Marai Nagasu will probably be one source of inspiration. Meanwhile, Jason and SOI.. I'll take li!!

Thanks for the link, el henry.

Jason excited is always a good way to start the day.

Jason may never be able to articulate to everyone's satisfaction his reasons for declining Worlds. I don't think it was a spur of the moment decision or based on one event or result. The feeling I get is that he had reached his limit (emotionally, mentally, psychologically) and needed to step away from the sport for a time. The thought floated through my mind as well @Tavi that he might take a year off, but getting a new short program choreographed has given me hope that he will compete in the upcoming season.

Without mentioning any particular skaters by name, Phil Hersh :ghug: tweeted yesterday that he is looking forward to attending SOI in Chicago on Sunday.

If(?) he speaks on site to any cast members, maybe(??) Jason will feel ready to share a little more??
(It will be ten days after the Windy City Times interview took place.)

Any additional crumbs about Jason's plans for the coming season would be welcome.
(Although we previously heard a little from him about his new SP, either he did not mention it to the Windy City Times reporter or the reporter did not include whatever reference Jason might have made.)

As for declining Worlds: I would be interested in whatever else Jason would want to say (whether sooner or later) on that topic ...

Good to know that injury was not the issue.

Meanwhile, Jason is a communications pro :) -- always remembering that promoting SOI is the hook for the interview.

He's not really using the disappointment of not making the team as an excuse, is he?

Sounded more like he was disappointed in himself and how he skated. It was disappointment "of Nationals."

In terms of waiting for some kind of announcement, if there is a big announcement, then he probably needs to stick to the USFSA's timeline on when they want to send out a press release first. And if there isn't any big announcement then he might not realize that people are expecting one.

Kind of like this old Farside cartoon: https://landofblogging.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/same-planet.jpg

This is how I feel. He may not even understand his feelings himself, much less be able express them to an interviewer. Yes, maybe he should have had an answer prepared about Worlds. Or maybe he did, and just became nervous when the question came up. Jason's often not the best communicator. Or it may be tied into switching coaches which may still be up in the air, and something he still isn't ready to talk about it. He appears to be an extremely private person who keeps anything but happy happy hidden away. It was obvious he was struggling with something. If it were an injury, I think he could talk about it, but I think what he's been going through is something deeply personal that he's still trying to work through, and may never be able to openly talk about.

This was so beautifully put, I just had to quote the entire thing! I agree that Jason seems like a private person, despite his social media presence, and chooses to only show the happy moments and puts on a happy front at times to mask disappointment or any other personal struggles. Whether he chooses to talk about those struggles or not, I hope he is able to work through them and is able to become stronger because of them.
