Jason Brown

How do things work when you switch coaches? Does the new coach typically want to work with you for a period of time before doing competitions?

Ha ha - having never been a competitive skater, I can’t answer from personal experience. But I expect the answer is, it depends on what’s already on the schedule and what the skater's goals are for the season. If I recall Mariah did a competition shortly after she switched over to Raf. In Jason’s case it’s hard to guess, but since he’s been on tour, is nursing an injury, and not yet jumping, I would expect that even if he’s back with Kori, they’d try to start the season a bit later.

I'm wondering if it will come out as to where Jason is going when he attends the Grassroots to Champions seminar. Surely there will be a Q and A and I would think the subject could easily come up.

I agree it will come up, but Jason has his “my options are open, the world is my oyster” answer down pat, judging from the Figure Skaters Online interview.

Although it seems like just recently we’ve had confirmation of “rumored” moves with Denney/Frazier and Chock/Bates, so maybe this is the time for a public announcement? We can only hope

I think it all depends on the situation and I do wonder if that is part of the issue.

Jason is very emphatic he wants to compete this fall. It could be that some of the coaches who he is talking to want to take a slower approach to the transition.

TSL did make a comment that some are hesitant to take him on as they don't want to "get blamed" for not being able to get him a quad... and i think most of us can at least emphasize a little with that feeling; so, I could see some coaches wanting to retool his tech for longer than Jason wants to wait. I also don't think that should be seen as a slight to Jason... just that some coaches might want a bit more time before their work is put under a microscope.

I wondering if he's at OTC to get his ankle checked out and to set a game plan. Even though there's a doc on site on SOI, that person wouldn't be able to discuss training regimen and such. ...

Yes … at this point, perhaps Jason now is in the category of athletes making a visit to the OTC for consultation, rehab, etc.?? (Like Madi Chock.)

Although I still am scratching my head and wondering whether it is possible OTOH that the OTC (and/or Colorado Springs) still is Jason's homebase??

Meanwhile, today Jim Peterson posted a batch of photos from the PSA conference.

To which jasonbskates added a comment: That fourth pic tho... 🖤🔥

Which of course is the pic of JP with Jason's first coach Kori. :ghug:

Thanks! Gotta say, I love Jason's laughter in this, and Lauren seems like a very fun person. ...

As I said to her bestie Max at Nats: Lauren seems like the coolest person on the planet. :luv17:
Fun and inspiring (even before she won OSM ). And supportive of many skaters.

Wow, leaving his other half [ETA: I mean "leaving" only in the geographical sense] … and leaving 7k?

Maaaaaajor changes for Jason.

(I know that she has been a 7k coach -- I had wondered whether relocation for both was within the realm of possibility. I guess Jason's post means leaving Hamilton the dog as well.)

Yep, it appears that way. At least he's giving away that much. It must have been an emotional few days for him this week in COS.

Any bets where he'll end up? I need to look to the future.

And another black heart... *sigh*

I’m starting to think he’s going to end up with Vincent Restencourt. There’s chatter that Gracie is there now, plus Vincent was instrumental in his work with the quad when he was part of 7k.

But it’s a very speculative guess.

And my perennial guess of Anthony Liu is still there too.

ETA: Re the black heart, it could either be such cause 1.) They are wearing black and simply saying how great they look (hence the fire emoji) or 2.) Him expressing how much he misses her. (With the fire emoji expressing how nice they look.) I won’t venture to guess.

I'm torn between where I want Jason to go and where I think he will go. I'd prefer that he NOT go to the west coast since that seems to be expected and is where so many skaters end up. I'd love for him to go east or north to Toronto. If I were only betting a small amount of money, I would say TCC because the odds would be higher  and it would be the big change that I'd like for him to have. But I full expect him to go west.

Well, at least Millie got a red heart:laugh:

And I am way too old. Through Jason's Taylor Swift IG story, I kept thinking, OK then, turn down the sound. And then next on my IG stories was a Jim Peterson post with a jazz trio in a hotel lobby, presumably at the PSA conference, playing Vince Guaraldi. I'm a cheap date, cause I would have much rather been in that hotel lobby:biggrin:

Jason is so into Hamilton and Broadway in general. I wonder if he will be drawn to training in the east because of that - ie, closer access to NYC, etc. We’ll see, I guess.

That'd be awesome if he's going to Orser! He'll be surrounded by top skaters and have plenty of help with doing quads. Who would have thought that after 1988, Orser would become better known than Boitano and so revered as a coach. He seems so caring and calm. Jason needs a big change so this could be what can help him now.

I agree with what you said about Orser. What a disappointment it must have been for him to lose the Olympic Gold in such a tight contest in '88. However, with his sublime talent and hard work he has now become one of the World's most highly decorated and accomplished coaches. How fabulous is that?!! He certainly must have an abundance of wonderful qualities to have tutored so many young talents to stardom.

Given the surprising coaching switches so far, I suppose it wouldn't be that shocking. But I honestly don't see an inkling that Jason is heading to Toronto whatsoever.
