Jason Brown

Haha. I don’t think it’s that bad, but I’m currently sitting on the beautiful Princeton campus on one of the most glorious weather days the east coast has ever seen. Only optimistic thoughts today from me. :)

Ahh, 60 miles from the Christmas City. Stop on by:) And you are right, finally, today, a day without humidity, without rain, and in the 70s! I'd forgotten what 70 felt like.

Oh please someone go in and steal Jason's hats:biggrin:

Interesting to know they have completed the testing. It only takes a couple of hours:) I don't know what the other requirements, if there are any, for a coach to attend CC with a student.

I checked on whether any other TTC coach has completed the PSA testing, as of today, only Karen Preston has -- 2018-19 PROFESSIONAL COACH/ CHOREOGRAPHER CER (May 2, 2018).

I hope everyone is enjoying Jason's latest Breck-venture photo from his IG story (fortunately exported to twitter):

Perhaps it's a hint that his free skate will be to Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun)!

Oh, I like the way you think:agree:

Although every time I hear that in skating I need to do big time disassociation from Janet Lynn ;)

I must be really dumb but are you just associating Jason dreaming away in the great outdoors with the Debussy? :)

I love that piece and in fact Ive always liked it best of Adam’s programs but it would be fun to see what David Wilson would come up with for Jason.

In case anyone else is like me and now has to listen to it:

The dreaming pose and Jason surrounded by woods in the second photo reminded me of mythological fauns and of the short ballet created from the Debussy music which was choreographed first by Vaslav Nijinsky and later by Jerome Robbins. :)

For some reason I think of ballet music when I think of music I would like to see Jason skate. I think he is one of the few skaters who could do justice to it.

Now I’m going to be really disappointed when he skates to whatever it is he’s going to skate to that’s not Faun. :(

Just kidding.

Sorry, I can’t keep all of Jason’s BFFs straight: is that Millie or Heather in the last IG story?

I’m admiring their stamina. I was in Breckinridge for a conference about 15 -20 years ago. Summer, because the US government is not going to pay for winter in Breckinridge;). Back then I could run, tried my four mile run and by two miles I was dying a thousand deaths.

Of course, Jason just might be in a tad better shape than I was even then

That’s Heather.

Altitude is a killer until you get used to it, no matter how in shape you are! A couple of days isn’t enough to acclimate, and the typical summer conditions here - dry heat, full sun - add extra stress.

Years ago I went to Quito, Ecuador on business. It’s pretty close to Breck in elevation. At the time, I exercised 5-6 days a week and was in pretty good shape, but I remember trying to use the hotel treadmill the first night and giving up rather quickly - it was way too tiring. :)

Jason trained at altitude in Colorado Springs for years, so even though it's been months, he's probably acclimated to the altitude even now.

I’m not sure about that. Being an elite athlete surely helps, as does the fact that he seems to be highly active whenever he goes back to CO.

This article seems to imply that it may be possible to retain conditioning, but also that the acclimatization lasts only as long as your new red blood cells do.

I think he left Colorado in February to go to California, SOI, and of course, Canada, but he’s been back a few times. So that may help him keep extra red blood cells and adapt quickly. However, I think one of his Instagram stories from Champs Camp commented that he was feeling the altitude.

This study discusses the reverse - what happens when you’ve lived in high altitude and leave. You can have yucky symptoms. Who knew!

It may not carry over. But his body may still remember what high altitude is like and respond more quickly. I visit Boulder abut twice a year. I am not an athlete (far from it!) but noticed the altitude the most the first time I went there. Each subsequent visit makes the adjustment less noticeable. But I'm not doing much of anything that's physically strenuous. Most of my life is spent at 500 feet above sea level, so it is a big difference of over 4000 feet when I am in Boulder. I have to remember to hydrate. That makes a difference as well. It's very dry out there. Toronto is even lower in elevation than where I live, at about 250 feet above sea level. Anyway, he seems to be full of energy and vigor. And enjoying himself!

You may well be right - I’m far from an expert on altitude!

I would have thought that Jason would have retained some altitude conditioning, but then he posted that IG story about how tired he was and how "the altitude was real" or some such.

Oh well, I surely don't know either.:)

More importantly, added to the list of FOJs is Ashley Cain, with she and Jason throwing "love yous" and heart emojis at each other over their IG posts. That is one adorable pic of Gracie, him, Ashley and Karen;)

Ashley Cain has been a FOJ for years :ghug:. She is not a recent addition to the list, although maybe recent is not what you meant.

Way back when (before Ashley met her future husband), some on GS even were curious as to whether Jason and Ashley were dating, b/c it was so clear that they enjoyed each other's company. (My own opinion was that their good friendship was platonic.)

So … those who bought Jason's ponytail-themed merch now have collector's items.

New designs to come???

ETA:

Jason reacts to cute puppy at Champs Camp (I did not see this shot before?):

I think everyone who’s met Jason for two seconds is a Friend of Jason, that’s true:laugh: Good to know about the previous interactions, thanks:)

And also OK, that last puppy shot, Jason is officially comfy with dogs now; no more holding out poor Chunk like he was going to drop him:agree:

This is how bored I am. I did see a passing reference on a (public) Facebook page from someone who saw Jason practicng a week or so ago at TCC who said he was as “lyrical” as ever. I am going to extend that to vote for a classical LP.
