I wonder if he’s landing it in TCC practises, doing much worse in competition practices, and then it’s totally not a thing for competition programmes? His overall jumping technique looks much more stable, though, and Brian did say he takes in everything and applies it. One thing that really stood out for me in terms of Jason’s transition from “the goofy kid who went viral” to “I am here to medal at Worlds, *RICKJAMESBLEEP*” is how much bigger and more assured the jumps are, which has made them more meaningful in the context of the programmes — the height, air position, confidence at takeoff and then the beautifully smooth landing. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve worked with Jason on his Salchow technique or to hear that Jason has landed some 4Sals at TCC, but it may be a little too new and unstable for him to hit them in competition practises. Lots of pressure, too, since “omg Jason, get a quad, looser” has been going around for years.
I wonder if we’ll see him hitting some, even if just in practise, later this season. Jason’s got to be feeling more confident after IdF and Golden Spin, and it may be that a little extra confidence is all he needs.
