Jason Brown

Nathan's season best is only (and exactly!) 19 points more than Jason's... that is really not insurmountable... especially at Nationals. Heck one landed quad at US nationals could net him 19 points if you include PCS boost.

I rationally would still call Nathan the favorite. But honestly i kinda do hope Borser has a talk with Jason and tells him "Your goal is US Champ and I expect you to skate like that is your goal!" Because honestly... it should be his goal at this point because it is close enough. And beyond that I think Jason needs to learn to think in those attacking terms of trying to beat the big guns. He has to learn to try to beat the likes of Nathan and think he can, and he very likely learn how to fail at that... it is part of reaching that next step. He should absolutely skate to win, but be prepared to lose. But really I don't think silver is a good enough goal.

Honestly I am one of those wishing Jason could win Nationals. It maybe be difficult but is is possible.
And happy anniv to his parents. Seeing the photo he looks like a lot like his Dad?

He does! But he's also got his mother in his face. Jason winning Nationals would be spectacular. But mostly I want to see him skate really well and get on the podium, since that is his goal. Last year he caved to the pressure. Better that he doesn't have that pressure this year. This year I hope he has fun, skates calmly, deliberately and successfully. And goes back to TCC with a mission to skate well at World's and 4CCs.

I think that is behind the Eye of the Tiger remark that Brian made. I think he is working on stoking that fire. And yes, he should go out and skate to win, IF he can skate deliberately and calmly while doing it. No more of the crazed pursuit of the quad. If he's landing quads, he can do it without panic. And that would be really huge!

My biggest wish is that Jason has a nationals performance he can be proud of. He’s skating better than he ever has so who knows what could happen. Irregardless of placement though I want him to be satisfied with where he is.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- I’ve never been less nervous watching his 3A than I am now. Whatever 3A magic they have in Toronto has payed off there.

Sorry for the question but I am still a newbie so, is dude ranch like their family farm?
or just a frequent vacation spot for his family during the holidays?

Frequent vacation spot. :)

Glad that Jason gets to recharge cause it’s going to only get intense for the next three weeks.

Ha, I was just thinking it looked warm. It's 10F here, and forecasted to go down to 0 tonight.

I meant for Arizona. If I'm flying five hours (which I would need to do) I better darn well not be wearing ski caps and jackets when I get off the plane. ;)

Then again, Jason will be practicing up a storm in a cold ice rink when he returns, right? So better to stay adjusted in coolish weather:biggrin:

Northern Arizona has snow this time of year in the higher altitudes. And it CAN get pretty cold in the other areas, too. If I were going to Az I would take 2 types of weather clothes just to be prepared. I don't know where Jason's dude ranch is though. We were in Sedona at Christmas a few years ago and it was not only freezing but it snowed a little one day. Arizona is not all heat all year.

Tanque Verde ranch is in Tucson (or very near it, not sure exactly where the boundary is).

I've been there twice: once at US Thanksgiving, and once at Christmas time. The first visit was the December one: we camped in a tent and were COLD at night. The second time we stayed in an Air B&B.

It was very warm in the daytime but really cold once the sun went down. Also, the transition was very abrupt: hiking in the sunlight, to driving into the beautiful sunset, to pitch dark in about half an hour's time.

Dreaded double post, but actually about skating:

has the NBC broadcast of Jason's LP at IdF been posted before? Forgive me if this is a repeat. At the end, Tara and Johnny are actually complimentary. Johnny says: "it's a gift, it's a beautiful triumphant gift when Jason skates well".

Johnny?

and the closed Nastia account comes back under another name;)

Oh me too - and it's nothing against the others, but of course, we want our own particular favourites on the top of the podium. But I would be over the moon if Jason won the short (and he can, we know he can) and then took silver overall (and he can again, we know he can). He's put in so much hard time and hard work... the poster boy for the new rewards for simply wonderful skating.

Thanks for posting this - I’ve rewatched the SP several times but hadn’t rewatched the FS at all until now. I guess knowing there were a couple of pops, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to. But it’s actually a really beautiful performance. The loop is just gorgeous - and I never thought I’d ever say that about his loop. Even the music didn’t bother me that much....As to Johnny and Tara, I’m wondering if some of their “niceness” resulted from his huge first-place SP score. Seriously, their commentary does seem improved overall this season (not just here) - at least I’m noticing that they’re talking far less and are less intrusive. So props to them for that.

Re his grandma: not sure if it’s how they’re posed with the profiles / sunglasses, but he really seems to take after her!

Re Nats, I’m so looking forward to it, and feel so much calmer about it than I did last year. It’s partly that a place on the Olympic team isn’t on the line. But it’s partly also that unlike last season (and even earlier this season), he’s skating with confidence and his consistency seems to be returning. Regarding his placement, all I can say is that I hope he remains healthy, continues his upward trajectory, and that we see two more clean, beautiful skates from him. As to winning the SP, anything can happen, and I would be thrilled if he did - but my sense is that after France, Nathan will be working extra hard to make sure he is in first after the short. :) My only other hope is for a new FS costume, but I fear that’s a lost cause...

Love seeing these photos of Jason with his amazing family. He has the most wonderful support system, and it's always heartwarming to see their interactions. Great way to recharge the batteries before getting into the intensity of Nats. I am happy to say I am going, and I am really looking forward to seeing him! I promise I'll be cheering loudly! :yahoo:
