Jason Brown

So here's the out and out fantasy:

after 2022, Jason goes into ice dance. I can't imagine he couldn't pass the tests in record time, and some super little ice dancing woman who needs a partner should be thrilled to get Jason.

Right?

ETA: and now we know even more what Jason means when he says his dad is an optimistic guy:laugh:

It’s not an “entirely” crazy thing. Matt Blackmer, went from pairs to dance and ended up at nationals with Alexandria Aldridge. I remember he passed an insane number of dance tests in a few months to get to nationals.

*smiles proudly and unfurls a #DoddsSquad banner*

Andrew paired up with Chantelle and in six weeks took all of his dance tests and was ready to compete with her at a domestic competition. Later that year they were National Champions and they went to Worlds before they'd even been skating together a year.

Jason could almost certainly do it, if he really wanted to.

I mean, I would love to see Jason try, but the US ice dance field is really deep - much deeper than Australia’s - and there’s a log jam at the top. Maybe that will change, but the fact that he’s a great singles skater wouldn’t make it easier for him rise to the top as an ice dancer. It also seems like his height could be a pretty big disadvantage in finding a parter. Andrew Dodds is 5’9”, two inches taller than Jason.

Karen Chen!

I mean yeah if he wants to get a world medal or even on a world team, then yes, it would be tough, but if he wanted to compete at nationals, he probably could do it, the us ice dance field is deep but I don’t think it’s actually that hard to be able to compete at nationals.

I guess it depends in part what else he wants to do with his life.

It’s fun speculation. I don’t really expect him to actually pursue it. Seems like there are a lot of other things he’s interested in. But if he wanted to try ice dance, it’s totally possible :)

You mean he might not want to spend his *entire* life skating?

But what about his selfish fans, like me?

OK, I’m convinced that Jason can make US Nats. (Also Damian Dodge’s partner, whose name I am drawing a blank, evidently skated singles and dance simultaneously?)

So we need a more outlandish fantasy:

Jason skates Ice Dance for Japan:party:

He starts his post skating plan life of living in Japan. He doesn’t care about citizenship for the Olys. And there may be a surfeit of ladies who need partners there too

I know, all those American flags:biggrin:

Ha!

My thought when he mentioned someone little was tiny queen Satoko Miyahara. She's only 5' and would fit perfectly with the Ice Dance for Japan fantasy.

Now that we know Jason's music selections for the season, and GPs won't be announced until the 20th, idle speculation is what we've got to keep ourselves occupied. ;)

If we do want to speculate on things other than his dad's fantasy of Jason being a men's single/ pairs / ice dance triad competitor at an upcoming nationals ...

Which GPs is he likely to get? Is he going back to China this week? Do we think he's going to do any summer comps?

He probably wouldn't have trouble competing for Israel, but Japan might be a stretch. At 5'7 he would need a partner no taller than 5'4 and smaller would be better. But what a fun speculation. He loves the skating life and the pressure would be off. Who is small with great skating skills but isn't a crazy good jumper? How are Mariah Bell's skating skills?

I have imagined Jason as an ice dance performer because he has such great music sense and timing... Junior ice dancer Vadym Kolesnik has a style that reminds me a lot of Jason and Vadym is 5' 8.5" so in the ballpark... Jason would need a partner like Avonley though; she is 5' 0" .. a beautiful skater! Can totally see Jason participating in dance through, say, Ice Dance International, most likely in his post-competitive years, working with their choreographer and ballet maestro Eddie Villella .. one can dream!!

Avonley & Vadym at Nationals 2019

IDI trailer... lots of recognizable faces!!

OMG Jason, Avonley and Villella mentioned in the same paragraph! Be still my heart! elbkup, you made my day!

I'm going to stick with Karen Chen for Pairs because she's 5 ft nothing, they're friends, and her singles career is up in the air. For Dance, I'd go with someone who is the same height, but more expressive on the ice. Avonley would be perfect. :)
