Jason Brown

Actually Jason's quad wasn't fully rotated, his foot landed forward and spun around throwing up a lot of snow (per Johnny) and was obvious is slow motion. The thought was he didn't have enough height - but it sure looked a lot higher than some. I do think this was a most positive step forward though. I keep going back to what was said about it taking 2 years to fully integrate into a new jumping and training routine. Isn't this the second year with Brian and Tracy?

Me too! It should be a very good competition! Hoping that we'll put together a Golden Skate meetup!

I met him 3 times and he is just a huge ball of sunshine bursting with warmth and joy. You can actually feel yourself being recharged x100000 by his solar power, I so hope you will get that priceless experience... you won't regret it I guarantee you!!!

I've experienced the megawatt welcome and hug twice. He is just the nicest human being! And a super great skater! Hoping that we can run into him.

It will be 2 years this summer. And he's starting to get it!
 
4CC Mens short program is one week from today! :eeking: In all honesty, I was hoping that Jason might withdraw, but it looks like that's not happening. He put so much into Nationals and I feel like it's too soon to get energized and get up for another competition, especially one so far away. I think Mariah had the right idea. After hearing he was still having concussion symptoms last month, to me it seemed like a no-brainer to let him skip this and continue to rest and train. Thus, my expectations for him are somewhat lowered for this comp, but I would love for him to prove me wrong. At least Worlds isn't going to be a big trip.

As I was doing my daily viewing of Nats replays last night, I discovered that the NBC Gold Mens FP replay has the awards ceremony right afterwards. I could have sworn this wasn't there before, but I must have been mistaken. Happy to see it!

Thanks for letting us know about the medal ceremony addition. It definitely was added. Will go check it out. Will Nathan trip on the carpet again this year? I saw a fan cam and it looked like he didn't. But I really want to see it.

Ugh and so many people are predicting he’ll take silver, too! :drama: Apparently they’ve forgotten that heaps of other really good men with lots of quads are competing, too. :dev2:

Seriously though, he’s probably got his reasons. Yeah, he could bomb due to the short turnaround. But he could probably use the World Standing points. And if his goal is not to revert to his old ways under pressure, well, what better place to practice that than 4CCs? :) In fact, he might have paced himself through Nats with 4CCs in mind. Time will tell, I guess. But I’m not expecting a medal. Although it would be nice to see those beautiful programs skated beautifully again.
 
I'm just guessing here - but I think Jason is on a roll. I'm not surprised at all that he didn't cancel 4CCs. I think he feels he wasn't able to give the programs his all because of losing training time, etc. It will be a good warm-up for Worlds.

Exactly! Momentum and confidence are such a huge part of this sport. Imagine how much stronger Jason will be at Worlds if he also has a brilliant 4CC!

I don't think he'll bomb. He's skating with so much more confidence. He's in the mix for a medal, but the main thing is that it gives him a chance to try that quad again in competition without the pressure of World's. I listened to comments on Ice Desk and Jackie Wong and they all said he did beautiful 4Ts in practice and warm-up, so now he has to land them with the adrenaline going. He'll be with 3 of his training mates and coaches. And he loves competing. Plus the spotlight will be on Yuzu, so he can stay a bit under the radar and concentrate on doing his best. It is a short turn-around, but Nats was a real success for him and they'll build on that at TCC.
 
Of course I voted for Jason but not without a bit of :think: to call his SL program "the most entertaining" sounded so grossly inappropriate. They really should have two separate categories for "the most fun (entertaining) program" AND "the most touching/emotional" program. Oh well then again most of the categories and selections make little sense anyway :palmf:

Agreed! But the winners will be awarded whatever at World's and I really want to see Jason in the gala no matter what position he is in at the end of the competiton. If being mesmerized and moved by a program means entertaining, SL is it. Even if he doesn't win either category, the more votes the better.

USFS posted its Nats recap a few days ago. Only a few shots of Jason, one of his tears close up, moved me more even than the vids :sad4: and then one where he snaps his fingers listening to music.

I'm sorry, all I could think of with the finger snap was "When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way....." I guess many of us are old enough to get that:laugh:

The original was close to life changing. I wonder what they'll do with this one? They won't have to edit Officer Krupke now. But we were literally doing those dance moves in the street.
 
Jason adjacent news, an opinion column written by a football fan, who was forced by his wife to watch figure skating last week and his confusion at the term "quadless." (Spoiler - he doesn't end up liking skating any more than before he watched, but the piece was borderline amusing):

When a contestant by the name of Jason Brown took the ice during the men’s finals, the commentator suggested that he was hampered by the fact that he was “quadless.”

I didn’t know what that meant, and they never explained if he was born that way, if it was a disorder he developed over the years, or if he became quadless in the war.

But amazingly, even saddled with such an impediment, Brown managed to finish in second place.

I told my wife how impressed I was that the young man was able to overcome his debility to take the silver medal.

At first I was a little sad that the columnist was not immediately captivated by Jason. ;)

But it does go to show that the casual viewer could care less about quads.:laugh: The gender division reminds me of how I grew up: watching skating with my mother on Saturday, and football with my father on Sunday.

But I now like both:biggrin:
