In all honesty, this trip reminded me of how much power those unexpected encounters hold. How much joy it gives me to gift skaters that move me. All 4 crowns were given out by pure accidents, but I feel they got to skaters I really like/respect and who I think were happy to receive such gift (at least I hope so - green crown was given to Laura Barquero after Pairs FS when I spotted her on the stands, red/gold crown was gifted to Marjorie Lajoie after I caught her & Zachary entering skaters' zone downstairs and pastel crown as you mentioned was given to Karen Chen whose SP performance really captivated me through sheer luck by spotting Camden going into skaters' zone after Ladies' SP ended hehe).
And Tracy's words of 'He is just special, isn't he?' upon my description of Jason being one of a kind still ring in my ears. I am just so, so happy he managed to find place & people who nurture his talent and uniqueness.

And as for responding to Karen's IG story wearing the crown - there's that 'send a message' bar at the bottom of the story, so you actually can send a message hehe (snippet below) . I believe that Jason will wear the crown someday, but the sole thought of him having it is enough

It was doubly nice to be able to give it to Tracy to give to him. She's done so much for him. And he for her, I think. You were so lucky to be able to be at that competition. I watched it live, but it's not like being there. And it was lovely of you to give those other crowns to Karen, Marjorie and Laura. I'm sure that they were touched by the gifts. One of the really fun things at live competitions is seeing the skaters and coaches in the hallways and getting to talk to them. It's an unforgettable experience.

As for the costumes - I enjoyed the looks quite a lot. I find both costumes on rather understated side, but working well for the programs - they are showing off his phenomenal lines, posture and do not distract from his body movement. A little sparkle in Sinnerman costume adds to the dimension while he's moving, emphasising complexity of Rohene's outstanding choreography that really engaged every fiber in Jason's body. An ombre effect with some color on the chest & arms for Schindler's List FS provides nice contrast while Jason moves & I feel makes his upper body work/his expression of face and upper body more pronounced. Both costumes for me are just enough to amp the presentation of the program to the right level, but to never distract from the presence of Jason.

And a flower crown story I promised in general FT thread - below you can see the flower crown inspired by Schindler's List FS program that was supposed to be given to Jason in Montreal at 2020 Worlds. I took it with me, not really believing it would be possible to actually give it to Jason like after FS performance to KnC like I usually tend to do. But I took it because I knew I would kick myself in the behind if I didn't. Come Friday, day of FS. Me & my friend are in the arena, standing near concession stand, I have the crown with me. Out of sudden, she spots Tracy ordering coffee few feets away and I braved it out (winging this whole flower crown giving on the fly for the whole FT) to approach her & to ask if she could give that crown to Jason. I can only say that Tracy is super kind, attentive and loves Jason as we do - she asked me from where I came to FT and was moved once I told her that this was supposed to be given at 2020 Worlds specifically for Schindler's List FS and since he uses the program again, I wanted to tank him & show my support this way. So this is how the crown was successfully delivered. I was shaking inside so badly I still wonder how any coherent words came out of my mouth to Tracy View attachment 4374

I found this! The above vid from the Wall Street Journal is a good reference, only takes about 3 minutes to view, and stars Jason as skater and narrator. It was made prior to the last Olympics.

You learned to make such beautiful crowns in just one or two years or less? Much respect (I am thinking of the crowns you made for Chock and Bates that looked so beautiful on Madison in the Kiss and Cry. Sorry, my brain is a sieve so I don't remember which comp that was).

If he thinks about retiring after this season, I assume he wants to share more. He's been very focused last seasons and now he seems more free, relaxed and at the same time excited. Or a bit restless maybe, like he wants to feel seen as opposed to just work, work, work. This is a special season, but only he knows.

Funny you should mention. I was also happy to see regular posts initially, but recently started worrying a little. During Jason’s first season with Tracy/Brian, I recall Brian saying one of the first things they needed to do was to work on Jason’s focus. He even asked Jason to curtail some of his friendly interactions at competitions until he was through competing.

But, Jason seems to enjoy social media and should be able to tell if it is interfering with his skating goals. So, I’m just going to enjoy the posts. I’lll try to limit my worrying to the competitions!

I think he's trying to upgrade his public profile in an Olympic year. He's got a competition coming up and he's letting people know he's out there. I am sure this is not a distraction from his training. But I am also sure that there is a certain amount of nervousness and excitement about his first GP. He know he has to up his game and stay focused and positive. Centering himself and posting are probably tension relievers.

I think we need to not infantilise Jason and trust in his judgement. He's going to be 27 this year. He's more than an adult now.

It could well be that he has now learned how to focus and adjust and make sure that social media is not consuming too much of his focus. But also, Olympic season visibility is huge. He's going to be one of the big star names at the Olympics assuming all goes well, but also, PR and propaganda runs don't hurt.

And it's not like he's doing anything massively time-consuming. It probably took him 30sec to write the caption, another 30sec to post it, and repost to his story, and then another 30sec to repost to Twitter.

God, I had so many flashbacks this weekend. I found the viral Riverdance video again. He looks so young. And then I watched the crowd's reaction, and I remember when we knew. Remember when we knew, Jasonites? Remember when I posted the video to the Broadmoor version of the program and it got yoinked but not before it had 3000 views in two days? And the buzz in this thread - we knew. We knew.

Something else occurred to me, watching. Jason is the same age this season as Max was in his last year. But - with Max, I knew. I think we all knew. He never said it outright, but he said enough for us to know. I don't get this feeling with Jason. Maybe I'm being incredibly optimistic, maybe I'm being blind. But I don't get that feeling.

It won't be another cycle. But another year, maybe two? I can dream of that, can't I?

(And yes, part of me is selfishly hoping I get to see him live again in Sydney...but I really think he's not finished yet.)

I think his increased social media is a tactical decision - I 100% believe his agent has told him he needs to get himself as "out there" as possible for the Olympic season - Now I know his chance of making the US team will be mostly based on how he performs over the next few competitions and Nats BUT popularity and narratives count for more than people realise. Jason is already very popular with fans and don't underestimate the power of an NBC fluff piece. Getting his name out there, getting fans talking about him and wanting him to be on the Olympic team, tweeting USFS about him is only going to help his chances of making the olympics. Jason has a great TV narrative already - not making the last olympics, moving to Canada and this likely being his last shot at the Olympics... being an artist of the sport, coming out as LGBT+ in a hetero-sport... all things that are going to endear him to fans.

I agree on all points. If he makes the Olympic Team, I don't think he'll retire. He loves what he's doing and he's still getting better. I do think he'll start doing more ice shows, but I can see him going another year or two on the competitive circuit. Team USA might be very supportive of that. Nathan will probably ponder his options. Vince will go back to school and take his life in a different direction. I don't worry about Jason. I am deeply invested in his career and care very much how he does. But he's an adult and he can take care of himself now. He's got a great team, he's clear on what he can and cannot do and he's committed to being the best he can be this season. More than that I don't expect. Posting on social media is good publicity. He will not let it interfere with his preparation.

I am looking forward to SCI. His competition is fierce. But I think he will be ready for it.

Agree. It’s up to Jason now. Brian is focused on trying to move up some of the younger skaters. Jason has matured, but I love it when he feels happy enough to share. The stress must be overwhelming.

The only reason I’d like to see him move on is so he can have a normal life living where he wants to and socializing. His personality is to bring joy and he isn’t able to reach enough people now. Having any real relationships in his private life must be impossible, because people are always watching. It will be fun to see what happens. I’m not sure he is ready to stop, but this year will probably make things more clear for him.

I think that Jason is totally focused on his 4 year goal and will make decisions when that goal is reached. He has said many times that he wants to live in Japan for a couple of years, and teach English to Japanese children. That would also give him an opportunity to skate in Japanese Ice shows and learn to be more fluent in Japanese. He has also said that he might want to continue competing, but he really wasn't making any decisions now.

I think Stars on Ice is starting to recruit skaters for the 2022 tour. Maybe he'll do that.
