Jason Brown

I had a blast at IdF watching Jason's performances.
It was even more interesting to sort of compare my impressions between Finlandia Trophy and IdF. I think that despite both programs being already used in the past, both are perfectly imho illustrating why Jason is so beloved and for what traits. Watching Sinnerman live is AN EXPERIENCE - there's just such artisanal quality to everything Jason does, how choreography highlights the music and how Jason manages to make the music sing louder by his movement and performer's attitude. At the same time, it's perfectly balanced, there's never a sense of this program being too overwrought or with too little fine tuning put in there.
As for Schindler's List - while I agree that the OG version revibrates with me stronger, I understand that Jason isn't stuck in one place and that the program will evolve alongside with him.
I had a great time cheering for Jason with my US signed flag which was often shown on the stream (yup, that's me :)). And it really made me smile to see him lit under people's support, that smile and appreciation.
Some photos for you:

Great photos! And I definitely saw you on the stream! You were an audience star! I'm so glad that you got to see him. I'm going to Nationals and hope that I see 2 fabulous programs done well! I know that they'll be in a bubble and won't be able to do meet and greets, but it will be a very exciting week! IDF was a definite improvement, particularly for SL. Hopefully he will keep moving upward.

Jason and Ro working together. It's a bit scattered, but there is a lot of footage.

Is this what you meant? For some reason I had trouble with your link! It’s about 45 minutes of Ro coaching Jason. It looks like what they’re doing is fantastic with some fairly substantial changes, and Jason is looking really strong. Exciting! But the camera! I’m getting dizzy!

ETA Ro is a genius. That is all. 😇

I get the same video with both @Tavi... and @Bookseller 's link.

Ro, sweetie, get someone to hold the phone for you please, so there are fewer shots of the rink ceiling:pray: (And I do think it's cute how he says hello to everyone on the IG chat.)

I didn't hear any "That's not a counter!" moments, (too bad;)) but for anyone who says this kind of choreo isn't hard work. Grrrrr.....

I'm not sure why he isn't sticking to the version from Nationals that had everyone amazed and asking for 50 points PCS. Why fix it if it ain't broke?
I hope it doesn't feel like skating a new program every time he skates it/them. 🤔

That's the one. I'm not good at links. I just copied and pasted the URL from the Instagram. I need to learn how to do that better. It's not my highest priority right now, though. Getting Sinnerman back into super sharp state and increasing his point value and performance value was what I hoped he would do after IDF. SL is getting better. But Sinnerman had dropped off a little. It was good to see him tightening up that final spin combo. It looks so much better! And I 100% agree with Ro on that change of direction camel. They are such a great team. This was so candid and yes the camera was dizzying. I now know better what it's like to spin! I did pirouettes as a dancer, but not that many rotations. Two was about it. Spotting at that speed must be incredibly difficult. I'm so glad Ro posted this.

I maxed out a 4 pirouettes (hubby was the turner!) but I don't think they spot spins.

I never skated, but they must spot at some point. I have no idea how they keep from getting dizzy. 4 is impressive! I started in ballet very late, so could only get so far. Double pirouette was hard enough.

Double piroutette is GOOD! Don't downgrade yourself. :) I think for spinning it is more about managing the after effects and the inevitable dizziness. This is a pretty good - albeit elementary - explanation of what happens in the inner ear during a spin. I'm sure there are better articles out there, but igt was what I found quickly. (I was curious, too.)

That was really interesting. I figured that at some point they had to orient themselves, but it's clearly not that easy. The more practice, the more the body and brain get used to it. It's like the twisties, only you always have it. It's no wonder skaters fall on jumps! You lose your sense of where you are and where you're going to land. And whammo! Jumps in dance can include rotation also, but it's much much slower. And mostly you just jump from point A to point B. Rotational jumps include point C and that's incredibly difficult.

I understand, and I agree with you in theory. But the changes I saw looked really good, and he already seems to be handling them well. Of course we didn’t see the whole program with the changes and doing it in competition is a whole other story, but let’s keep our fingers crossed! As long as he’s on board with and has a reason for agreeing to the changes, I’m hopeful they will improve what is already a great program. And of course, that they’ve fixed that stupid spin. 😇

@Bookseller, the problem may not have been your skill with links - I’ve noticed it sometimes happens on my phone. Really glad you brought it to our attention since I’ve been avoiding Instagram and Twitter lately and (except for the fact Ro’s camerawork made me seasick), it was really interesting! 😊

I'm happy that you were able to find it. I wish we could have heard more of the conversation, but loved the last one when they are nitpicking a move and Jason says "When you take THIS perfectionist (presumably Ro) and then you take THIS perfectionist (presumably Jason) and so forth." That was funny! Another Banner, perhaps?

I actually thought I heard Jason start to say something like, “they wanted..” and then it got garbled. Did you (or anyone else) hear anything like that ? I may have totally misunderstood and he never said that at all, but I was quite curious about who wanted what and if it was referring to something in the program. 😂

What changed with Sinnerman?

Only thing I noticed is the timing of the backward lunge at IdF.... too early! I guess they also swapped the order of the final 2 spins, but he did both spins back to back at Nationals anyway.

With regard to the practice clip and "perfectionism", I actually thought there was someone else in the rink. Which with Ro's impressionist camerawork, who knows? So that Jason actually meant this perfectionist and this perfectionist.

Did anyone else hear Ro say something like "You've only been spinning for one hour" when Jason said he was tired?

@rollerblade I am not a good one to detect differences in programs, but the most recent discussion is of a video that Rohene Ward posted on IG training with Jason, where they do appear to be changing some of the elements. With Rohene's priceless commentary. And less than stellar filming skills. ;)

I think filming was almost an afterthought Most of the time he forgot that he was doing it. But it's probably a good representation of their normal practice sessions. There was a female skater in the rink who came over and chatted with them. I believe that's who Jason was talking to. And I believe he was referring to himself and Ro. They were delving into the details.

I did hear the one hour of spinning comment. Jason looked tired. I'm quite sure he was more tired than normal because of jet lag and post competition fatigue. They were clearly planning a second session the next day. It was fun to watch.

There was one conversation that was very hard to hear. I wouldn't be surprised that Jason said that and assume that it was a judge's comment about the program. That was what I thought the conversation was about. He scored more points at Finlandia than he did at SCI and IDF. So Sinnerman wasn't going in the right trajectory. He needs to max his points on that. I was happy to seeing them working on the fine points.
