Jason Brown

The airline situation was one major reason why I punted on this trip. I am close enough to drive, but was concerned about the weather. Turns out, I was not wrong to be concerned. I'm sure my flight to Nashville didn't happen due to snow in VA and getting out of Nashville on Monday is likely to be a mess also with so many canceled flights. It was all just TOO MUCH. But skaters are a different story. I'm sorry that skaters who train far from the competition site are having these issues. Jason will bounce back. As long as he has his skates. Costumes don't matter. Skates do. Keegan has had missing skates before. But he's Canada # 1. He'll go to his last Olympics.

Jason didn't show up for today's practice. He is still on his way to Nashville. According to Philip Hersh, Jason was supposed to go TOR-LGA-Nashville, but yesterday he headed from LGA to Atlanta, where he planned to spend the night and get to Nashville Friday. Jason's mother, Marla, said he has skates and clothes for practice but his competition costumes in luggage, which is not with him. She will deliver his old costumes if necessary.

I hope he is able to get some ice time when he arrives. The SP and FS are back to back days so very little time for him to get practice in. Not as worried about the SP but the FS. I keep checking instagram and twitter to see if there's any updates to where he is!

Thanks for posting this update. It must be so nerve-wracking, but at least he has skates....

Per Hersh:

Thanks so much for the update. He was lucky to get a car. I’m guessing it will be about a 4 hour trip unless the roads are bad (are they bad? I know there was snow). Best news is that he has his skates. If he has to skate in practice clothes or last year’s costumes, I don’t think it’s a big deal. I do worry about the stress from the travel delays, but fingers crossed he will overcome!

ETA, didn’t he almost not make it to 2014 Nats when his car spun out on I25? Hopefully remembering that will help him keep this all in perspective. 😊
