Jason Brown

Can you imagine what a treat you'd be in for if all three of the Golden Trio hit their stride by then! Oh! It would be so magic!

That's exactly what I thought! 2,5 years is just about right ;) If they get there in Boston - even better but I will envy you US Brownzillas SO much! If it happens in Helsinki I'm afraid I may may swoon and miss some of their tricks because I'm leaning back with my eyes closed and fanning my face with my hand in a theatrical manner

I am jealous of all the Jasonfans who live in places where skating goes! The US, Finland, everywhere! I don't like my chances of the Golden Trio ever coming here.

Guys, can we make a deal that you all come over to Finland in March 2017 to watch Jason win his 1st World gold with me?
Cos that 1st World medal is coming in Boston 2016, of course ;)

If I have the money, I'm there!

You should have seen me when I was watching Jason's LP at Nationals. I was so tense and was teary at the end of it. I was home alone at the time and kept saying "oh my god" over and over again, because I was so thrilled for him. My cat gave me some very strange looks.

Maybe we ought to start a "Helsinki 2017 or bust!" fund. ;)

I think I was just stunned. I couldn't believe I was witnessing this IN PERSON. And I also think I was stunned because for months I had to vision that Jason would kill it at Nationals with this program and get an amazing standing ovation and it was happening right in front of me.

Then I just grinned because I was excited for him.

That's what I like to hear! It's far ahead enough for our Jason to get his quad steady and get experience and also far enough that if you start saving now it'll only be like 5 bucks a week into the piggybank from now till then

I love it. I'll be retired by then, so I'll have the time, if not the money. (Boston is much closer to me, but probably as a result much less interesting... even with Jason, we hope, there).

Brownzillas or bust for Finland!

i counted. 143 weeks between now and the start of 2017 Worlds.

5x143= $715. That would pay for my plane ticket -- if it's on sale. :) I think I would have to do a little more saving than that. ;)

Ah, now I see some suspenders! I'm not a huge fan of them (99% of the time) but I have to say, he looks adorable.

I have a question: is there any footage from Sochi of Jason receiving his Bronze Medal? I have yet to find any video.

Thanks!
:)

I imagine so, but I wouldn't have the foggiest idea where to find it, sorry!

$1700 at least for a return ticket to Helsinki - if it's on sale. Sigh.

That was surprisingly accurate  I didn't even count in my head

Hotels here are surprisingly affordable and the quality is obviously very good.

And if you don't mind couchsurfing, it's a very popular option here also.

Hmmmmmmmm some "news" about the quad situation. Some guy replied to a comment on Youtube and I got a notification because I'd commented on it myself months ago. It's a Youtube comment so no way of knowing if he's telling the truth but here it is anyway:

"Really? I'm friends with his choreographer and believe me, they are not thinking about Yagudin at all. Jason is one of the most talented skaters in a long time and he has been landing quad toe's for almost a year, they just weren't ready to put it in the program.
Anyone who's actually a figure skater will tell you how incredibly amazing Jason is (not taking anything away from Yagudin who was of course fabulous as well). He's completely on track and in fact ahead of schedule as his coach and choreographer were not planning on him making the Olympic team. The next 4 years will be amazing to watch!!!!!"

So if he really is Kori's or Rohene's friend then we know that Jason has been landing his quads for quite some time! It took him, if I remember correctly, about a week from 1st landing his 3Axel to putting it in a program in competition (Jr GPF 2012/2013). His comment in that IFS article about how when the quad is there it will be in the program the next day - that's pretty much exactly what happened with the axel.

I'm itching to ask him/Kori whether they've considered 4Flip! I still have my press creds from early 2000s when I used to write awful articles for Cosmopolitan Finland (don't judge me, they paid well and I was a poor student ). Wonder if I posed as a serious journalist they'd grant me a skype interview? Don't know how I'd explain why Cosmo wants such an in-depth article about figure skating between bedroom tips and lipgloss reviews though

popping in to whisper a tip: get mileage from your credit cards and connect flights. That's what my mom does to get the whole family to and from Hong Kong every other year without paying more than a couple hundred bucks total. ;) good luck to all in your quest to go to Worlds! Wish I could come as well, but, school, you know. Can't really get out of that. [emoji3]

Wow that's quite a lot.... :(

It is one of the few disadvantages to living in the Land Down Under. If I want to go overseas, to the Americas or to Europe, I'm looking at no less than 16 hours on a plane and close to $2000 at least in airfares.

It might actually be smarter to save my pennies for 2018...a return ticket to Seoul is a tick under $1300.

I am always suspicious of things I read on Youtube. Actually I remember reading something in this line of comments about how he was trying to copy Yagudin. (I spent about twenty minutes going, "Yagudin? What the...? Where on earth did they get THAT comparison?")

Plenty of people write things on Youtube that may or may not be true. If it is true, then my heart is glad, and it also would not surprise me - we know he has been working on the quad for over a year now, and to wait until it was competition ready would fit the pattern that he and Kori have established.

I would also like to see Jason try a quad flip. The size, distance and height of his triple in the videos from Broadmoor blew me away. I think the time is drawing near when the "bigger quads" will start to come out again. Joshua has talked about doing quad flips and lutzes on the harness, though if I had to pick I'd say his triple loop is his easiest/biggest/best triple and would make a mighty fine quad. Max attempted the quad loop during his SOI performances and has the speed to try any quad.

Oh, can you imagine - if they could all string it together!

*peers into wallet devoid of credit cards* Oh well.

On the plus side, I earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points by shopping at my supermarket.

I knew Jason had skated to Garrett Kling's choreography in the 2012 YAS "Word" challenge (love it!), but didn't realize he also skated to Katherine Hill's choreography in the 2012 YAS "Play Ball" challenge until I found the youtube clip this morning. So much fun to see him putting his soccer, volleyball and rhythmic gymnastic(!) skills to use!

Has he participated in any other YAS challenges?

As far as Jason's quad goes, he was doing THIS in practice in May 2013 (he puts a hand down, but it looks fully rotated). He can clearly land one, but I'm guessing they haven't been consistent enough for him to feel confident doing them in competition. Or maybe he and Kori wanted to get a year of competing triple axels under his belt before throwing the quad in there as well. The jump layout he did at Broadmoor looks like he'll be opening with it in his long program; I hope he goes for it!
