Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean

Jayne Torvill, OBE (born 7 October 1957 in Clifton, Nottingham, England) and Christopher Dean, OBE, (born 27 July 1958 in Calverton, Nottinghamshire) are British ice dancers who won a gold medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics and a bronze medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics, becoming one of the oldest figure skating Olympic medalists. They are four-time World Champions, seven-time British champions, and four-time European champions, and five-time World Professional champions. Jayne was, with Michael Hutchenson, 1972 British Pair champion as well.

Christopher Dean has been and still is, an influential choreographer.

The team has skated many numbers in the British TV show Dancing on Ice, which has aired for eleven seasons, and is renewed for the 2020 season. Tickets are available for the associated 2019-2020 Tour!

Christopher Dean, Choreographer

Chris, of course, has choreographed for Torvill &Dean, and for any tour or TV show they were involved with. He has also done choreography for competitive skating routines for other skaters.

Chris married Isabelle Duchesnay, and also did the choreography for her programs with her brother, when they skated for France, at least from 1987 to 1992.

After the Duchesnays retired due to a rollerblading accident to Paul, Torville and Dean began their return to international competition, aiming for the 1994 Olympics, followed by a heavy post Olympic touring schedule.

Documentation is sketchy for which routines were choreographed by Chris until he did some work for Michelle Kwan.

Chris married Jill Trenary in 1994 and moved to Colorado Spring, CO. From that time on, he often worked with skaters and teams based in Colorado, especially those who also worked with Patti Gottwein and Tom Dickson.

Broadcast on BBC4 13.06.19 "Our Classical Century" - Alexandra Burke interviews Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean at Queen's Ice Bowl (and looks a competent skater herself - sign her up for Dancing on Ice, ITV!) Richard Hartley explains how he shortened and recorded Ravel's Bolero for their iconic 4 minute Free Dance to win European, Olympic & Worlds in 1984. I bought several copies of the 12" EP, it contained several tracks, including Barnum and Capriccio Espangol (their Paso Doble OSP) which I swished around to in my bedroom!

Christopher Dean, choreographer

Chris, of course, has choreographed for Torvill &Dean, and for any tour or TV show they were involved with. He has also done choreography for competitive skating routines for other skaters.

Chris married Isabelle Duchesnay, and also did the choreography for her programs with her brother, when they skated for France, at least from 1987 to 1992.

After the Duchesnays retired due to a rollerblading accident to Paul, Torville and Dean began their return to international competition, aiming for the 1994 Olympics, followed by a heavy post Olympic touring schedule.

Documentation is sketchy for which routines were choreographed by Chris until he did some work for Michelle Kwan.

Chris married Jill Trenary in 1994 and moved to Colorado Spring, CO. From that time on, he often worked with skaters and teams based in Colorado, especially those who also worked with Patti Gottwein and Tom Dickson.
