The Personal Best and Season Best scores that the ISU uses for a skater only take into consideration certain competitions. For example, they do not take into consideration domestic competitions, such as Sectional, Regional or National Championships.

The table below takes into consideration all the events that the skater has taken part in. These scores are referred to as “Absolute Personal Best” and “Absolute Season’s Best” so as to distinguish them from the scores recorded by the ISU.

Absolute Season’s Best Score

The Absolute designations are based purely on the contents of the Competitive History table in this post. If anybody knows of any scores that are not in the table, please let us know, and we will be only too happy to add them in.

Who is their coach ?

I wasn't not sure, but Sara Hurtado was supposed to be coaching the partnership between Sofía and Aleksandr Gnedin that didn't happen.

Then I looked up Sofía's Instagram there now, and in the following post about her and Asaf's debut at Nationals, she says that both Sara and Kirill are their coaches:

https://www.instagram.com/p/CmW7wpEowSd/

Kirill was in all probablity part of the coaching set-up all along, but I just didn't pick up on it because the story where we found out about the partnership with Gnedin was actually a story about Sara.

Hope this helps

Challenge Cup Short Dance: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdlAkTPWelE

Sofía and Asaf finished 5th out of 14 in the SD, with a score of 61.85.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE. However, the Spanish Federation is always very good at putting up videos of their skaters, so I was able to watch them this morning.

First thing I have to say is "Wow!" They may have only been together for 4 months, but they are so good already! To somebody like me who is not an Ice Dance expert, that looked faultless.

When Sofía was partnered with Nikita Vitryanyuk, there were always problems with the Twizzles. As a result, I have got into the habit of keeping close attention to them. Well, I can safely say that there were no issues with them in this programme! They looked so good! Indeed, when you go to the Protocols, they got the best marks from the Judges, with a +1 from Judge 3; and +2 from the remaining four Judges. They also got the second highest GOE, at +1.44.

There was not a single minus in their Protocols. For that matter, they only got two 0's from the Judges (one for each of the last two elements). Everything else was positive. Indeed, when you look at the GOE's, there was only one element that got less than +1.00. Like, how often does any skater I have adopted get GOE's of over +1.00?!

If you look at the Protocols, the only slight blemish is the final element, the Rotational Lift. There was nothing wrong with how it looked. The Judges marks attest to that. 0 from Judge 3, and +2 from the remaining four Judges. In other words, the second best Judges marks after the Twizzles. The problem was that the lift went on for longer than it was supposed to. As a result, it only got +0.77 in GOE.

Sofía and Asaf are currently 6.93 points behind 4th position, Misato KOMATSUBARA / Tim KOLETO (JPN), and 1.10 points ahead of 5th position, Marie DUPAYAGE / Thomas NABAIS (FRA). Sofía and Asaf are at the head of a group where 4 partnerships are covered by 3.07 points, stretching down to Chelsea VERHAEGH / Sherim van GEFFEN (NED) in 8th position.

In fact, they are at the head of an even tighter group within this group, where 3 partnerships are covered by 1.74 points, stretching down to Mariia NOSOVITSKAYA / Mikhail NOSOVITSKIY (ISR) in 7th position.

Being realistic, without something disasterous happening to any of the partnerships in front of them, Sofía and Asaf are not going to finish any higher than they currently are. However, the do need to put in a very good Free Dance, because they have three partnerships breathing down their necks.

But, after seeing what they did in the Short, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they were able to pull away from these partnerships.

This may have been their first performance in a proper competition, but this is a great partnership in the making.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start at 20:40:00 CET (19:40:00 GMT / 22:40:00 MSK). So 13 hours from now.

Sofía and Asaf will be the 10th partnership to start. So, first partnership in Group 3.

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 22:16:30 CET (21:16:30 GMT / 00:16:30 MSK Saturday). So 14h 36m from now.

Sofía and Asaf are due to start at 22:22:00 CET (21:22:00 GMT / 00:22:00 MSK Saturday). So 14h 42m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Looking from a distance, I thought Sofía was wearing training clothes! It was only when I looked closer that I realised that she was supposed to be an air hostess! :slink: The fact that I didn't realise shows that she needs to take notes from Liza Tuktamysheva).

Well, it was obvious what Asaf was dressed as!

I didn't know the Kenny Loggins song at the start, but I didn't like it's weird intro. But, I have always loved the other two songs. Mind you, I really didn't like the way that the edit from "Take My Breath Away" to "Dangerzone" was done. Dragging the record away while the needle is still on it damages both record and needle! I know it was a sound effect, but making it sound like that is what was happening still sets a bad example.

They got badly out of sync towards the end of the Twizzles. But, otherwise, I couldn't spot any issues.

They are being kept waiting for a long time. Sofía and Asaf aren't bothered - they are laughing and joking away. But Kirill looks very worried.

Into 6th with a score of 56.96.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Here are a couple of comments from the time. Starting with one from an Austrian member:

Ngl, big fan of the stewardess and pilot theme! 🤩:cheer2::points:

And one from my friend in Sicily:

well that was fun, the music was cut with a machete, but fun

As ever, she says what I am thinking better in less words.

Sofía and Asaf are currently 0.42 points behind 12th position, Mária Sofia PUCHEROVÁ / Nikita LYSAK (SVK), and 4.66 points ahead of 14th position, Paulina RAMANAUSKAITĖ / Deividas KIZALA (LTU).

Sofía and Asaf are at the bottom of a very tight group of 3 partnerships covered by 0.79 points that is headed by Charise MATTHAEI / Max LIEBERS (DEU) in 11th position. And these 3 partnerships in turn form the bottom of a larger group of 4 partnerships covered by 2.68 points that is headed by Anna ŠIMOVÁ / Kirill AKSENOV (SVK) in 10th position.

Ramanauskaitė / Kizala are at the head of a group of a very tight group of 3 partnerships covered by 0.53 points that stretches down to Olivia OLIVER / Filip BOJANOWSKI (POL) in 16th and last position, 5.19 points behind Sofía and Asaf.

If they put in a good Free Dance, Sofía and Asaf have a good chance of moving up, potentially into the Top 10. But they have to be careful, because if they make mistakes and the partnerships behind them have good skates, there is the potential of dropping into the group behind. And given how tight that group is, this could result in finishing in last position.

So, let's hope for a good Free Dance from Sofía and Asaf!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Short Dance is due to start at 15:00:00 CEST (13:00:00 GMT / 14:00:00 BST / 16:00:00 MSK). So 8 hours from now.

Sofía and Asaf will be the 4th partnership to start. So, fourth and last partnership in Group 1.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 15:00:00 CEST (13:00:00 GMT / 14:00:00 BST / 16:00:00 MSK). So 8 hours from now.

Sofía and Asaf are due to start at 15:29:00 CEST (13:29:00 GMT / 14:29:00 BST / 16:29:00 MSK). So 8h 29m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Sofía and Asaf finished 13th out of 16 in the FD, with a score of 86.92. This meant that they remained in 13th position overall, with a score of 143.88.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch LIVE. However, one member that was watching did post about Sofía and Asaf in the competition thread. The problem is that it did not really give any indication on how they got on. But, it is complimentary, so I will copy it in here anyway:

Sofia Val is very pretty

Well, that goes without saying!

Here is my comment that I wrote while watching Hielo Español's video:

Don't know the music, but it is beautiful. As was everything about the programme.

I'm in two minds about the vocals. I thought the wee preview of the vocals spoiled it. But, when the vocals came in permanently, I did think they added atmosphere. That said, it still would have been beautiful if it had stayed as an instrumental.

Sofía looks sensational. Asaf, well, he's just wearing a white shirt (with the top button open) and black trousers. Normally if somebody was wearing this combination, I would say that it looks like he didn't put any effort in. But, in this case, it looks like he did!

Again, like in the Short, they went badly out of sync on the Twizzles.

Apart from that one issue, the programme looked flawless.

My goodness, how long are they going to keep them waiting for the score?! The rink DJ has had to go onto a second song! :drama:

It was worth the wait. They go into the lead!

All three of them are delighted! And so they should be!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

HOWEVER, they got 3 points in deductions! :jaw: One was for violation of choreo restrictions; one was for a time violation; and one was for an extended lift.

Sofía and Asaf finished the Free Dance 1.09 points behind 12th position, Charise MATTHAEI / Max LIEBERS (DEU), and 5.06 points ahead of 14th position, Paulina RAMANAUSKAITĖ / Deividas KIZALA (LTU). Sofía and Asaf were at the bottom of a group of 3 partnerships covered by 1.37 points that was headed by Mária Sofia PUCHEROVÁ / Nikita LYSAK (SVK) in 11th position.

Overall, Sofía and Asaf finished 1.79 points behind 12th position, Pucherová / Lysak, and 9.72 points ahead of 14th position, Ramanauskaitė / Kizala. Sofía and Asaf were at the bottom of a group of 3 partnerships covered by 1.88 points that was headed by Matthaei / Liebers in 11th position.

Without the deductions, they would have been 11th in both the Free and overall. So, they need to get all of them sorted out before they go any further into the season, or it could get very costly.

That aside, these are two very good programmes. And as the season goes on, they will get even better. So, I am predicting a very good season for them.

Seeing these two programmes, it is hard to believe that Sofía and Asaf have not yet been skating together a full year. They look like they have been together forever!

This is a very good partnership.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Sofía and Asaf finished 6th out of 17 in the SP, with a score of 65.51.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE. However, I have now watched Hielo Español's video, and have written a comment along the lines of what I would have wrote if I had been watching LIVE:

Great synchonicity in the Twizzles, although the way Asaf gets out of them does look a bit awkward.

And there was another point just before the switch to "Take My Breath Away" where Asaf had to do a turn that looked a bit awkward.

The fact that I am picking out insignificant things like turns says everything about how well the programme went. On the whole, it looked flawless.

Sorry that I don't have much more to say. I was totally mesmerised by them.

What were Asaf, Sofía and Sara trying to do with their hands?! Whatever it was, it didn't work!

They go into 5th with a score of 65.51.

If that performance is only worth 5th position, there must have been some really exceptional performances before them!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

My Norwegian friend wrote this in the competition thread at the time:

Wow, really like this program

Same here!

I just checked the Protocols to see if there were any mistakes that I didn't spot, and there weren't. There wasn't a single minus in there. In fact, except that Judge 1 was marking lower than the other Judges, there wouldn't have been any 0's either. He gave 0 for the final two elements, the Straight Line Lift and the Choreographic Rhythm Sequence. (I should add, Judge 1 was the only male Judge).

And the GOE's are the highest I have seen for a long time. The lowest was +0.86 for the aforementioned Straight Line Lift, while the highest was +2.08 for the second element, the Midline Step Sequence In Hold.

Sofía and Asaf are currently 3.41 points behind 5th position, Katarina WOLFKOSTIN / Dimitry TSAREVSKI (USA), and 1.56 points ahead of 7th position, Natacha LAGOUGE / Arnaud CAFFA (FRA).

Wolfkostin / Tsarevski are at the bottom of a very tight group of 3 partnerships covered by 0.45 points that stretches up to Loïcia DEMOUGEOT / Théo le MERCIER (FRA) in 3rd position, 3.86 points ahead of Sofía and Asaf.

1.52 points behind Lagouge / Caffa are Mariia NOSOVITSKAYA / Mikhail NOSOVITSKIY (ISR) in 8th position, 3.08 points ahead of Sofía and Asaf.

If they put in a good Free Dance, Sofía and Asaf have a chance of moving up, potentially even onto the podium. But they have to be careful, because the gap to the two partnerships behind them is smaller than the gap ahead of them.

So, let's hope for a good Free Dance from Sofía and Asaf!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Free Dance is due to start at 18:00:00 CEST (16:00:00 GMT / 17:00:00 BST / 19:00:00 MSK). So 10 hours from now.

Sofía and Asaf will be the 12th partnership to start. So, fourth and last partnership in Group 3 (and fourth partnership after the resurfacing).

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 19:18:00 CEST (17:18:00 GMT / 18:18:00 BST / 20:18:00 MSK). So 10h 18m from now.

Sofía and Asaf are due to start at 19:43:00 CEST (17:43:00 GMT / 18:43:00 BST / 20:43:00 MSK). So 10h 43m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Sofía and Asaf finished 6th out of 17 in the FD, with a score of 102.83. This meant that they remained in 13th position overall, with a score of 168.34.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE. However, I have now watched Hielo Español's video, and have written a comment along the lines of what I would have wrote if I had been watching LIVE:

Oh, that's a disappointment. The music has been removed from the video, presumably for copyright reasons. Right, I'm going to try to synchronise it up with the audio from their performance at the Ondrej Nepela Memorial. I probably won't be successful in getting them timed perfectly, but it's worth a try.

That is interesting - it was only the instrumental music in the first half that was muted. The audio came back when the vocals kicked in. Up until then, I thought I had done a good job getting them in sync, but it turned out that the Nepela audio was about a second behind.

I honestly don't know what to say. I was totally mesmerised by them.

In the Short, all I could pick out was a couple of awkward looking turns. Well, I can't even manage that with the Free. It looked totally flawless!

That was just magical to watch. There are no other ways of describing it.

And yet again, they have to wait half a day for their scores. :drama: And I'm getting worried now, because this happened at the Ondrej Nepela Memorial, and they ended up getting 3 deductions.

Sara and Sofía doing a little dance to pass the time. And Asaf totally oblivious to it!

They are laughing and chatting away. But, in between, you can see that they are worried about what the wait means.

It took until the last minute of the next group's Warm-Up for the scores to be announced!

Into the lead, with a score of 102.83.

At first, Sara looked like she couldn't understand why it wasn't higher, but then she saw that the other two were delighted, so she was happy too.

And so they should be. That is the first time that they broke the 100 point mark in the Free!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

I just checked the Protocols, and they were even better than for the Short. None of the Judges gave them anything lower than +1. And there were quite a few +3's, and even two +4's for the final element, the Choreographic Dance Lift. That element also got the highest GOE, at +2.66! The lowest GOE was +0.90 for the fourth element, the Dance Spin.

The second highest GOE, +2.50, was for the element before the Dance Spin, which was a Curve Lift into a Rotational Lift. However, it was called for an extended lift (the Protocols don't indicate whether it was the first part, the second part, or both). Nevertherless, it had by far the highest Base Value, so despite getting a call, it was still by far their highest scoring element at an eye-watering 13.40 points!

One Judge called them for a violation of choreographic restrictions. But, because the other seven Judges didn't, they escaped without a deduction.

Sofía and Asaf finished the Free Dance as the middle partnership in a group of 3 partnerships covered by 3.77 points. They were 1.13 points behind 5th position, Katarina WOLFKOSTIN / Dimitry TSAREVSKI (USA), and 2.64 points ahead of 7th position, Natacha LAGOUGE / Arnaud CAFFA (FRA).

Overall, Sofía and Asaf finished 4.54 points behind 5th position, Wolfkostin / Tsarevski, and 4.20 points ahead of 7th position, Lagouge / Caffa.

They will not have to wait long to be back in action, as they are heading to France to compete in the Trophée Metropole Nice Côte d'Azur in just a few days time.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Here are the videos of their programs at Budapest Trophy
Val / Kazimov RD Budapest 2023
Val / Kazimov FD Budapest 2023

This is what I love about the Spanish Fed. They always upload copies of their skaters' videos onto their own YouTube channel, so that there will be a copy available in case the original livestream or other copies of the individual programme get taken down or zapped.

I wish other Feds would do this. It provides a useful archive having all your skaters' videos in the one place.  :points:

Thank you for posting the links for the Budapest videos! I've already got the link for the Short video in the OP, but will add the link for the Free video later when I edit in the remaining scores from Budapest, and add the row for Nice.

:thank:
