I'll be interested in knowing how well or otherwise Kristie Musademba and Richard Dornbush do at this their first ever JGP. Hope there are a few youtubes of this.

Wow, Kristine beat Rachael by quite a bit. Is that a surprise to people? Rachael had a very similar score (49.96) at the Liberty Open SP, where she under-rotated the 3/3 and was apparently short on rotations for the layback spin . Maybe something similar happened to her at JGP Vienna. But she came back strong at Liberty, scoring 107.19 in the LP (with a nice 3/3), so maybe she'll do the same again here.

I'm pleasantly surprised by Kristine's showing. Good for her, doing so well on her very first international assignment! I look forward to seeing her skate (for the first time) tomorrow on the live stream.

Does Kristine do the 3lutz & Flip?

She does the flip, but apparently is still working on the lutz in practice, which after seeing her today is the only reason I'm not calling her one of the most talented young skaters out there. She's very lovely to watch.

I wonder why Rachael scored that low...

I watched her skate in that live mainstreamthing. She didn't look good. She was really slow and her spins and spirals were sloppy. Kristine was TONS better this day.

I like watching lovely skating and Kristine has that with the best of them. She doesn't resort to cutsey wootsey stuff like other16 y.o.s do to tug at the hearts of the judges.

Joe

Kristine can be a bit inconsistent with her FS scores, while Rachael (when uninjured) scores very high quite consistently. I hope they will both medal.

Mroz is in 4th and Dornbush in 10th, but Brian is only 2.18 points out of first and Ricky only 6.41 points out of the medals.

Brian tends to get very mad when he messes up in the SP and he comes on like gangbusters in the FS. He has a track record like that:
Jr Worlds: 7th in the SP, 2nd in the FS; moved up to 4th
2006 JGPF: 5th in the SP, 2nd in the FS; moved up to 2nd
2006 JGP Mexico: 11th in the SP, 1st in the FS, moved up to 2nd

Let's hope he can pull it off once again.

Dornbush did the same thing at US Nationals in January. After a disastrous SP that left him in 13th, he skated a fantastic LP to earn 4th in the FS and 8th overall.

Let's hope both guys are "comeback kids"!

Mroz is in 4th ...

Just FYI, it's Brandon Mroz (not Brian).

Musademba skated a clean Junior SP (landed 3Lo, 3F-2T, 2A) at the Liberty Summer Competition in PA back in July (which I missed seeing) and scored 53.07 there. I'm not surprised at how well she skated today in her JGP debut. Musademba's scored 91+ in her initial round Jr. FS at Liberty, and her 6-triple jump layout there was: 3F-2T, 3T-2T, 3S-2T, 3T, 3Lo, 3S, 2A. In the Liberty Junior Ladies FS Final, she finished 2nd with 80.39 (Alexe Gilles won with a 90.66 FS score).

Musademba landed 3F-2T in her SP today. The 3F is a new jump in her programs this year.

Well I think Musademba is "one of the most talented young skaters out there" even without a lutz in competition right now. ;)

I think Musademba is talented but without the lutz she won't go much higher. I'm not even sure she'll be able to hold off a clean Jenni or Rachael without the lutz.

Musademba only added the flip this year, the loop last year, and 3T & 3S the year before, and she's pretty consistent. She's working on her 3Z. Hopefully she'll continue her rapid rate of progress, and put the 3Z into her programs next year.

Flatt has the technical goods to beat Musademba. But who skates clean also matters a lot. I personally would be surprised if Musademba lost to Vahamaa...

I can't copy and paste links so.

I'm not surprised at Boroludin. I saw a skate of his somewhere and there is talent there. See if he can match his LP?

Swedish men making a comeback and Schultheiss less than one point behind Boroludin.

With Guan in 3rd can Mroz get on the podium. Brian is 1 pt behind Guan and 2+ pts behind Boroludin for the win.

Should be an all out battle in the Long Program.

Joe
