OK, I give up on this topic about the controversy of other skaters.
I don't know anything about the fan world in Kurt Browning era and Scott Hamilton era. What about Alexei Yagudin and Brian Joubert? I don't think they were attacked by saying they wanted to show their masculinity. Because they are masculine, they don't need to wear only black, no glitters, to prove it. I hope Mr. Lysacek understand this.

they had a different sort of rivalry... neither one really contrasted that greatly with the other as far as skating style (though Alexei was IMHO the more artistic)
whereas Evan and Johnny contrast GREATLY in skating style.

unfortunately with a Johnny thread it ends up turning into a Johnny Evan thread which turns into a Johnny Evan who's gay who's not thread lol

I hope you are not talking about my posts. I have never thought about gay or not gay. I don't care about who is gay or who is not gay. Why would I care? I believe, 100%, Lysacek is what he says he is. I just hope that he is not so eager to prove to everyone about it. That is why I mentioned Alexei and Brian. I think the reason they weren''t involved into such controversy is because they just went on naturally and didn't care about what other people say.
Not only did Yagudin and Brian do their own thing, they also didn't say anything about other skaters who were doing their own thing. No sniping, snarking or cat-fighting.

I do not believe that either evan or Jonnhy worry about others says . Only that if one of them says something in a interview, the fans remember it in every occasion, and it seems that they are reiterative, when actually only they say it in a certain moment

I think Evan worries a lot about what other people think. Johnny worries too (or maybe I should say Johnny cares too), eventhough he says he doesn't. It's just my opinion.

I really liked Grease too, and I also really like Tosca and Zorro. Seeing Tosca live hardly even resembles Tosca on tv. It is skated with tremendous passion, emotion and energy. Evan is portraying the main character, the painter, who loses, Tosca. If you know anything about the opera, it is a tragic story about unrequited love.
Johnny is the one who made the stab at Evan in his journal entry in his reference to Christian Dior. I have said it now several times. Evan does not go around trying to "prove" his masculinity. He was asked about his choose of costumes and he gave the answer that he prefered more simple, masculine styles, preferably in black and that he would never care for glitter and sequins. I don't know why his comments have to create such a ruckus. That is his preferred style. Johnny has a different style. So what? Why cannot there be two American skaters with two very different styles? Evan himself has said that he and Johnny are very different and that is all he has said.
Some people prefer Johnny, others prefer Evan. That is what makes sport interesting. It would be pretty boring if every skater was exactly the same.
Getting back to Johnny's journal, I thought it very odd that he would say he didn't care for Christian Dior because his style was too masculine. The way I see it, the only reason for making that reference would be because Evan's Tosca shirt was designed by Christian Dior. Johnny went on to say that he was the glitter bomb and loving it. I, personally, did not see the necessity in making either of those comments. Those are the kind of comments that make me unfavorable to Johnny.
IMO some of the men's costumes have become a bit too much and have gone over the top, and Johnny leads the pack. Frankly, I think his FS costume looks ridiculous. On the other hand, I think his costumes from last season were very tasteful and suited both programs very well. But the winner, hands down, has to be Evan in that ivory satin shirt and black pants. I don't care for the red scarf he wore at CoC, but instead prefer the open neck look he had at Skate America. He looked too good to be true with his dark hair, California tan, and long, lean line.

To address the issue of whether or not the USFS was pushing Evan as the poster boy at Nats last year, I think that he was unfortunately caught in the middle. Browning had made some unkind comments about Johnny during a performance, and there had also been a scandal involving comments that were made by a guest on Nancy Kerrigan's show, and some said even Nancy herself.
So given that Johnny went into Nats with that stigma, many of us felt that Evan was indeed promoted as the strapping straighty, complete with gratuitous cuts to his gorgeous girlfriend. But looking back, I don't think you can argue that Evan was a cause or a conspirator. Seems like he was just there to skate and he became part of someone else's argument...

Johnny likes Dior. I doubt he considers Dior "made famous by using a more voluptuous silhouette after World War II" too masculine for him at all. Quite the contrary. Get the humor now?
