Johnny Weir's "Positive" Qualities

Oh, no. Does anyone know anything about this apparent foot injury Johnny has? :frown: I was so wanting no injuries from them all.

The only source I found was the article on a website:
"But he has some minor foot problems", coach Galina Smievskaia said in Torino.

What does "minor" foot problems mean exactly for a figure skater?

I'm not sure, but I know he has a temperamental foot that's ruined several events for him in the past.

I've just watched the practice video of them all at Torino. Johnny fell twice on something that looked very much like a quad. I'm not sure why he'd be doing them now especially with a wonky foot, but whatever I'm not Galina, lol. I also heard that Evan fell on his quad. From what I could see of the video (they all were wearing black so it was hard to tell the difference) Lambiel was doing just fine.

Rats! I hope the foot problem is very minor and doesn't affect his skating.
He probably hurt it trying to pound that stupid quad. Thank you CoP. :ohwell:

ETA: I just watched that practice video, and those were definitely quad attempts he fell on. I wonder if his foot was hurt during one of those attempts? I agree Vodka Shot, I can't imagine he would be pounding the quad on a hurt foot.

Johnny sprained his right ankle at Skate Canada 2005, but he finished the competition. Speaking from sad personal experience, "minor" sprains are not always so minor. Maybe that injury nags him ... or it's all related to some further back in time injury?

Anyway, this is NOT what I wanted to hear. Hope it's just a twinge that goes right away.

Susan

Please remember that the GPF won't be shown in the US until Dec. 23, and there are members on the board who do NOT want to know what's happened until then. Thanks so much :)

Seagull anyone? lol I know it's supposed to be in the white parts of his costume, but he has such a gift for imitating bird shapes, it's brilliant.

Putting aside his skating, physical features, and persona for now, one thing that I really like about Johnny is that he feels very real to me. He's an interesting guy with a number of faces that are often contradictory and very human:

For example:
Competitive, Hardworking, Determined
Loud, Opinionated and Screw-what-you-think
Introspective, Quiet, and Sensitive
Shopping, Christina Aguilera, Fashionista
Romantic, Idealist, Naive
Gracious, Caring and Kind
Cute, Witty, Silly
Charming, Femme, Boyish

He appears very real to me, too. I like his sensitive spirit. He reminds me of some of my friends who are in arts, films, and humanities. When I go to museums with artist friends, I feel that I could see more. His performances have similar effects on me.

My most favorite program of Johnny is the Swan. I like the harmonious melodies, the unique costume, and the sense of happiness that I feel when I see this peformance.
I also liked Otonal really a lot. He put his soul in it. His performance at the Nationals in the 2005-6 season was memorable. I was really moved when I saw him so moved.
This season, I really like Love is War. I feel that it has so much depth. It also has some darkness and subtle poison. I cannot see this performance many many times as if playing background music because it takes some energy to watch it.
I also like Yunona I Avos. It's more comforting, sweet, but also a bit sorrowful.

I had the pleasure of meeting Johnny last Wednesday at a show done at his training rink in New Jersey. Johnny was very kind, signed autographs for everyone and posed for pictures. I posed for a picture with Johnny but when I checked my digital camera I found the picture did not come out. Johnny saw the look on my face because he came over to me, asked me if the photo came out and when I said no, he asked if I wanted to do it again. He did not have to offer, he did not have to ask if the first one came out but he did.

 Oh, please announce any more such shows in advance.

It´s really enjoyable to watch Weir´s elegant looking skating and I wish him luck for Nationals and Worlds.

ITA! I think the move to Galina has been a wise one, so far.

I  momjudi's story about how Johnny asked about taking another picture.

Thank you Johnny, for getting together with Melissa and Denis for "Fallen Angels." I loved their free dance to begin with (my favorite free dance of last season), but this trio was absolutely brilliant!

i will always remember Johnny's flow over the ice.

Now I am waiting for the World's medal Tired of missing busses, sprained ankles. He's no different from other skaters who miss planes, and have serious injuries.

Joe
