That edge is incredible.

otonal...one word is enough.

I totally agree with you Toni. As much as I've seen that program, when he starts his straightline footwork, I get goosebumps. Other than most of Alexei's programs, that is my all time favorite.I will give you that - Otonal is am impressive program... love the music (thank you Johnny for introducing it to me) and the choreography was perfect for it... if he skated that program for the rest of his career I wouldn't complain!![]()
Bravo Rave!
I was never a Johnny fan until I saw him skating in COI in 05. That performance did something for me that none of his performances on tv ever did. I can't describe it but it was like looking at something through a jar and then taking off the top and looking again. The realness of his skating came through for me.

I haven't seen Johnny live, which is horrible, but Johnny's skating does this for me -- even on TV! Thanks for the beautiful simile, Childfreegirl [love your screen name, too, btw]! And that happens even when he's "off" -- I was mesmerized by his Oly LP and didn't give a hoot (other than the effects on his placement) that he left out a jump pass, etc. I was just enthralled, and even my non-skating-fan husband said, "He looks like he belongs on the ice!" In a word, YES!!
Johnny creates something special whenever he steps out on the ice. And I like his personality, and don't find his so-called outrageousness nearly as shocking as non-fans do, or claim to do. I think he's actually pretty mild in most of what he says, and, as others have pointed out, he is quick to give credit and kudos to other skaters.
And I think Johnny has always worked pretty hard, too. He had a bad season last year, but actually, somewhere (on the net? in a newspaper?) was an article describing his training regimen and practice schedule (describing both his on-ice work and off-ice conditioning, etc.) and he put in the hours. Now, maybe he needed still more, or really just a different kind of practice (maybe what he's getting now with the new coaches!), but I actually am not convinced that Johnny ever failed to work hard at his skating. Now, mentally, he may have gotten distracted by other things (like fashion, shopping), but I get the sense that it is has become sort of accepted as fact Johnny didn't work very hard the last year or so. While clearly he was struggling competitively, I don't think he ever blew off skating or failed to work and train. JMO.
Thanks, Johnny, for skating -- for yourself and for all of us!
You are all probably surprised to see me, an admitted, dedicated Evan fan posting here. However, I admire Johnny tremendously for waking up after last season and making the switch in his coaching and training discipline. Even though I have never been a fan, I do believe his skating is beautiful, and it pained me to see him sliding downhill and seeming to be wasting his talent. No one so talented should allow that to happen.
You could have knocked me over with feather when I read his article in IFS magazine where he talked about being out of shape and the changes he need to make. And the last interview with Peter Carruthers after CoR was so humble and forthright where he admitted that he was into too much celebritydom and not into his skating last season, and now he was just totally focused on skating. I admire him for his honesty and his ability to admit his mistakes of the past and his efforts to correct them. I wish him the best of luck in his new training regimen. It will be very hard for him and he has alot of ground to make up. But he is finally making wise choices as an athlete.
You're right, this is shocking! But I do appreciate your love of figure skating. Everyone on this board has that in common.
As far as his persona goes, he rarely if ever bothers me by what he says. I think it might be because I'm young. I just find different things funny.

I always say that Johnny is my favorite ... except when he makes me so mad I could spit.
He hasn't done that Q thing yet. But I think he will jump when Galina says jump. After he asks how high.![]()
He sure sparks emotions. It would be difficult to coordinate but we could pull it off.LOL, we'll all have to be there for each other if Johnny doesn't win back his title, either that or go get hammered together.![]()

That or a victory party instead!

Count me in, too. There was also the suggestion of the need for sedatives.LOL, we'll all have to be there for each other if Johnny doesn't win back his title, either that or go get hammered together.![]()
