Joshua Farris

Sadly it seems problems have cropped up for poor Josh... again. ...

But the that disturbs me is that he either a) got injured, again between now and the 18th ...

Thx for the news, Stitch. :(

Hope Josh is not having a serious setback.

As for the timing:

FWIW, the Jul 22 entry on Sun Valley's own blog had plugged Josh's appearance, plus included a big photo of him (file photo, but the point is that as of that date, SV still was expecting his appearance, it would seem).

This weekend, Josh Farris takes center ice in a show that begins at dusk. The 2015 United States Bronze Medalist, 2015 Four Continents Silver Medalist and 2013 World Junior Gold Medalist is sure to wow.

Josh Farris headlines this weekend’s Sun Valley on Ice show, bringing his athleticism and charisma to this intimate venue.

The fact that Ryan Bradley is the sub would seem to support the idea that it is a last-minute change ... 'cause Ryan also performs every weekend as a member of the Sun Valley ensemble cast every week, as well as starring as headliner for (usually) one weekend.

And less than a week ago, Josh had retweeted the most recent SV promo tweet about himself.

Josh :hopelessness: Please address this on your Twitter..

Love the guy, but I would be surprised if he does.
If he remains silent, so be it.

So sad. You, this reminds me of this girl who was on my cheer team my freshman year of college and she was able to not only get injured easily, but in weird ways.

Oh, noooooo. I hope it's just a little cold. A sniffle. Or feeling a little achy. Or his plane got cancelled.

Please, please, please let him not be hurt again.

This could mean a number of things:

1) He is seriously injured.
2) He is injured - it isn't serious, but he couldn't perform the show.
3) He was injured (the arm sling or something else) and he is recovered but not ready enough to do the show as well as he wanted/needed to.
4) He was injured and he is recovered but he is catching up on getting his programs and it wasn't worth it to prepare for this show (notice he hasn't really been doing shows like many other skaters).

Keep in mind that USFS Champs Camp is next month - and Josh is probably scheduled to get monitored so he can get approved to compete at any international competitions. Taking time to do the Sun Valley may not be worth it if he REALLY wants to be prepared. And we don't know of any summer competitions he signed up for.

The one thing that has me worried is that if Josh was going to make decent money on the Sun Valley show (and I don't know about that at all), something major may have happened for him to cancel. But then again, he could have pride and didn't want to do a show and it not be really good.

You see the Shibs, Ashley Wagner, and Adam Rippon doing shows all over the world this summer. Some skaters may not be able to balance the preparation (and travel!) with doing shows and training competitive programs. If Josh is maturing and is adamant about his new focus on being better prepared, the ice show may simply not have been worth doing if he is getting over an injury.

What's important is that if it had to happen, it is at least happening now and (hopefully!) not this fall. Here's to hoping that Josh will be able to compete well in both his Grand Prix events and then continue to improve throughout the season!

Well, I'm pretty sure TSL alerted us weeks ago that he was injured. Seems like they do know what they're talking about and have insider knowledge after all. But of course, because it's Josh, it's not that farfetched to claim he's injured at any point. :drama:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...-do/events-calendar+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

"TBA

Sun Valley On Ice Presents: TBA

Due to injury Josh Farris will not be performing."

It's odd how you can only see that from the cached website.

Again:
On July 18, Josh retweeted Sun Valley's tweet promoting that he would star in the SV show this weekend.

I for one believe that Josh retweeted in good faith -- meaning that six days ago, he had every expectation that he in fact would be performing.

What has transpired in those six days, I do not know.

But I do not buy the theory that he simply needed more time to work on his programs -- b/c I think in that case, he would have had the courtesy to notify SV a lot earlier that he would be cancelling.

Anyway, best to Josh.

Yes, but Josh himself was still retweeting his appearance at Sun Valley until this week. So that would indicate that either the injury is new, or it's a setback from the one TSL described. On the other hand, at the time TSL mentioned that he was injured, we have recent evidence of him demo-ing jumps at a camp and on the ice coaching during the camp at the World Arena. All things that I'm sure he would not be doing if he was hurt at the time, especially with his history.

I would also think it was something like a recent injury, he seemed to be pretty sure to attend Sun Valley :( Well, I hope that whatever this setback is, he may overcome it soon.

This is either good news or no news, but I believe Josh is skating around in this TSL clip of Max Aaron: https://instagram.com/p/6VOW9SqEOd/.

It could not be him (maybe Colorado Springs is the place to skate for tall, thin, brunette guys), but if it is Josh, at least he is well enough that he can skate. He may be completely recovered or only able to do limited things right now, but at least it wasn't an injury that is too severe that he is completely off the ice.

LOL, I was so blown away  by how Max looked that the other man did not register on me :hopelessness: .... but now that you mention it, I think you are right that he is Josh :).

Thanks for the good news.

And I hope you do not mind that I am going to copy your post into the U.S. Men thread in The Edge.

No problem - I am all for sharing. :)

Although now I think that guy in the video is Jamie Wright. So I feel like I've moved this thread up for what ended up being no news. If Josh is going to be somewhat ready for U.S. Champs Camp later this month, he probably should be recovered enough to be on the ice right now. But we don't know what sessions TSL were there - Josh (or Angela or any of the other Colorado Springs skaters TSL talks about a lot that we haven't seen on their tour) could have just been skating at another session.

Am I the only one who thinks that the "staring off into space" photos are just a tad odd?

Looks like Josh isn't at Champs Camp - he's probably still injured.

Isn't that Josh in the far left corner? With the mustache and beard?

ETA: Or is that Zach Donahue? Sorry for the false hope if so. :(

I'm 99.9% sure that the guy on the end of the top row is Josh.

Sorry to say that to my eyes, the guy next to Chris K. is Zach.

I have looked at the photo a thousand times, and I don't see JF.

I have been clinging to a tiny (and irrational) shred of hope that it was not intended to be "the" official group photo -- b/c USFS posted it only on Instagram, and not on Twitter or Facebook. [ETA: Just realized that Mirai is not in the photo either . Someone noted in an Instagram comment that she is missing.]

But my heart did sink when I saw the Instagram.

ETA:

I'm going to sound irrational again ... but I wonder whether Josh has the flu or something else contagious, and just wants to avoid any risk of infecting his fellow skaters?

Seems weird to me that he would not be in the photo even if (heaven forbid) he were on crutches, for example.

Injured skaters have been known to participate in the off-ice portions of Champs Camp. (Lysacek is an example, IIRC.)
And with Josh living in Colorado Springs, it would be relatively easy for him to do the same.
It's not as if whatever positive benefits that could be gained by off-ice participation in Champs Camp would be outweighed by major travel hassles.

But his absence from the photo is a bummer. No two ways about it.

I feel like Josh has totally vanished during the offseason. He didn't do the Sun Valley thing, he didn't seem to be around when TSL visited World Arena, I haven't seen anything about him working with Jeff Buttle, now he isn't at Champs Camp... Has there been any news at all since he was spotted somewhere with a cast??

If you are referring to his arm sling, Josh later was seen on ice (without the sling) on at least two separate occasions at the World Arena.

(1) Giving the jumping demo with Damon Allen.
(2) Coaching during the summer mini-camp for young skaters.

Whoops, I meant sling. Thanks for correcting me and for the info!
