Joshua Farris

Avoid it if you can. It's really, really not fun, I assure you.

I'm sure Josh will be fine, and back on ice soon.

They teach us safe stunting all the time in cheerleading and I try my absolute best to prevent myself from getting one. Thankfully never had one so far. Though some of my teammates, not so much.

I'm sure as well.

Depending on when he sustained the concussion - I've heard it can take a young person about six weeks to fully recover, provided that there is an initial period of complete rest.

Given that Skate Canada is at the end of October, and Josh is able to resume training in a few weeks, I hope he is able compete. I doubt he'll be doing any Senior Bs in the meantime.

We need to send healing vibes his way and hope there are no more mishaps for the upcoming season!

Agree with sending healing thoughts to Josh.

But disagree with any attempt to guess-timate the timeline of his recovery.
For one thing, we have no idea how severe (or not) his concussion was.

All we know at this point is that he has not withdrawn from Skate Canada, so Team Josh has not ruled it out.
Whether it will be possible for Josh to compete in Lethbridge or not, I know that he will have our support.

@JoeJohnsonIce
Woke @joshDfarris at 6:30 to chase a bat out of the house. I realize now it's the closest thing we've had to a pet and want him to come home

Obviously just a tiny tea leaf or two, but perhaps a hopeful sign that Josh's current condition is not too fragile, given that Joe Johnson apparently had no reason to tiptoe around him???

In other "news" ... I knew that they were friends, but not that they are house-mates??

Thanks for the update, golden! I think we can take it as a sign he's not doing too bad. :agree:

I do find it sad they don't have a pet though

I hope that they checked to make sure there isn't a "colony" there - bats rarely stay by themselves, right? Especially in the attic or behind the chimney.

I think it is fairly common for athletes (not just skaters, but other Olympic sports as well) to find a "host family" - out of convenience in finding a place to live as well as saving on living expenses. It probably saves both Joe and Josh some money - and every bit helps.

Yes, of course it is perfectly normal/common for young adults (whether athletes or otherwise) to have house-mates.
I wasn't making any kind of judgment regarding Josh and Joe's living arrangements.

The context for my comment:
Regarding skaters in general, sometimes we happen to know who is sharing quarters with whom, and it is fun to hear about their life under the same roof.
Examples: Back in the day, Alex, Charlie, Evan, and Trevor used to make allusions now and then to living together as the Four Musketeers. Jason told us about celebrating his first Christmas with his (then) condo-mate (Karina, I think -- a.k.a. Joe's ice dance partner, coincidentally). Brandon is rooming with Daniel this summer. Eric and Marissa. Etc., etc.
So I was just making an idle comment that I did not know that Josh was Joe's house-mate, and vice versa.

I wasn't assuming anything about you making judgements. My apologies for the confusion.

About the bat and having pets - I was surprised during the USFS #WhatsUpWorldTeam chats the number of skaters that had pets - especially dogs. I bet it is tedious if they have to take them to boarding when they travel for competitions.

If they are renting, they probably aren't allowed pets.

As to Josh and Joe's living arrangements, am I the only one here unsurprised? I have a recollection of a discussion on Twitter - it was a long time ago - where Josh and the "Bahdiez" (the collective, it seems, to refer to Josh, Joe, Lukas, and Jamie) talked about moving out together.

And I agree, the most positive part of this is that it did not seem to be an issue to wake Josh (apart from the time, but I expect Josh is used to that, being an elite athlete and all) and recruit him for bat-chasing. ;)

EDIT:

Aha, I found it - less of a discussion and more of a comment. Lukas tweeted on 14 Dec 2013 "Just waiting on the day when @JoeJohnsonIce @joshDfarris and I move in together. #thebahdiez".

Angela pretended to be quite butthurt that she was left out of this moving out thing, until Lukas revealed the shocking fact that she is...dun-dun! A GIRL!

Josh favourited and retweeted these comments.

I'm pretty sure Lukas is still living at home; he's full-time pre-med so his college bills must be pretty scary to say the least.

What a good memory you have, karne. And thanks for looking up the tweet from Lukas.
I would not have remembered it on my own, but now that you mention it, I do recall esp. the part about Angela, LOL.

An old tweet from Josh about the bahdiez that did stick with me and still makes me smile:
Not too many days after he tweeted something sweet about wanting a girlfriend, Josh innocently tweeted something else about how his bahdiez always would come first.
The mother hen in me could not help thinking: Shhhhhh, Josh! Not exactly what a young lady wants to hear from a potential boyfriend .

(Not to diminish that bills would be a concern for Lukas, but IIRC, he earned an academic scholarship covering his full tuition costs??)

We actually had a bat in our home a couple weeks ago. I have lived in this place for 10 years now and never even seen a bat in the area before - suddenly there is a bat on my curtains one night! No idea where i came from. I am about 60miles/100km from the CO Springs area but I am wondering if maybe Colorado is having weird bat issues this year.

Have to admit I had a similar reaction to Josh. When I first saw it my only concern was protecting my cats - after we got it out of the house, I started to feel guilty and worry it was someone's pet and I should have tried to catch it and find its owner. To my knowledge he escaped and flew off happily and unharmed, but still I worry he was loved by someone.

They are somehow both cute and creepy at the same time... but seeing one fly across your room, is not fun.

Luckily no sign of a colony has shown up in my home. The little guy showed up after a sudden severe thunder storm so i wonder if the poor little guy was just scared and confused.

Stitch, I'm surprised your furry ones didn't find the bat first. In an 90 year old house in Northeastern Pennsylvania, the bats get in. But they're such tiny things, and all curled up, that I never notice them except our mighty hunters pace and whine and act all agitated. Of course, they wouldn't know what to do with a bat if they caught one, but they point the way. And we never open our doors or windows unless the cats are "treed" elsewhere. :hijacked:

Cmon Josh and Joe, get a cat. Surely you can find a rental that accepts one!

Thankfully the cats were in the other room at the time. That was our first concern, trap the bat, find the cats, keep segregated.

Really only one of them I think would have been an issue. One is too stupid to know how to hunt really... he tries to follow flies and moths around... seriously, he will walk around on the floor trying to match the insect move for move... no concept of trying to stalk and pounce, it's funny but also a bit pathetic. Another, is just is too lazy to want to frisk, he watches the other cats frisk rather than joining while wearing "im too cool to stoop to their level" face. The female on the other hand.... well this is how she reacted to a parrot. She might have been way too happy if she spotted it. Especially since she comes in the room looking for me to put kitty or other videos on for her to watch (she does not paw at skater feet much any more - but Brendan Kerry made her swoon. )

Im actually in a condo, so no attic or anything, the damn thing was in our computer room somehow! He was cute when he was snuggling an old stuffed animal of mine, but when he tried to fly at me I noped the heck out of there.

I agree that all skaters should have a pet to share pics of with their fans. It is just part of being a good celebrity!

There is a cat cafe in the Denver area that I would be more than happy to take Josh or any skater to if they were thinking of adopting... because that's totally not selfish at all on my part.

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is in the area and is known for its Snow Leopards - they should totally do a skater/big kitty photo shoot! You know... highlight the grace and agility of what the Broadmoor area has to offer!

So! Pines of Rome! What do we all think?

I had a listen to the music on Youtube and I really, really like it for him. It's in his more classical style, but it's super dark and intense, and I can't wait to see what he and Jeff have done with it.

Well, while we all wait to see Joshua this season, I found this little nugget you all may enjoy. It is the SBS (Korean TV) broadcast of Josh's FS from 4CC. Since the competition was in in Seoul, I have a feeling this is SBS' camera work, so it looks different from the ISU camera version we've seen previously. Also super HD so you can notice his good looks even more!

Thank you, Mrs. P, and I love the Korean commentators (or rather the fact that the Korean commentators didn't feel the need to commentate every 30 seconds). Although seeing the US Classic vids was fun, *this* is the kind of skating I am looking forward to when the "real" season starts.

And like everyone else, I like Respighi (although I like Ancient Airs and Dances more). Will be very interesting to see!

I just got a HDMI cable and set it up between computer and telly and let me tell you this looks AMAZING on my telly, I might basically be watching it on loop.

Helps that Youtube behaves when I close the lid of the laptop. IceNetwork's full-screen mode does some weird inset-like thing when I close the lid, but will do proper full-screen when I have it open.

Thanks, Mrs. P for that link to that GORGEOUS program. Haven't watched it in a while and wow, when he's on, he's one of the best skaters we have.

Best of luck to Josh this season, and I want to see more skates of this quality!
