Joshua Farris

I am watching this beautiful and an all time favorite program of mine again and always touches me and moves me. The same kind of feeling I have for Mao when I watch her give life to a piece of music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJVgYB3DPhw

Josh reminds me so much of Mao, a ballerina on ice. Very lyrical and circular and ARTISTRY at its finest.

Its amazing how he has been compared to the late Olympic champ, and the epitome of class, elegance and artistry John Curry.

Josh, Max, Mirai, and Rachael will assist Tom Z and Christy Krall with a week-long summer skating camp at the World Arena Ice Hall after the Broadmoor Open.

(Would have posted in Max's thread, but the stalkerish stuff that someone [not a GS member, AFAIK] keeps plastering all over his social media is giving me the creeps. :hopelessness:)

Careful, he was only 17 in this shot :p

What keeps hitting me for six is his suddenly confident demeanour! Like - oh my gosh, where did this new confident Josh come from? I like it!

I think it came from a firm resolve after NHK to put the work in and see how far he can go. One of the best uses of "I'm angry at myself and now I'm going to do something about it" I've ever seen.

Max seems to have spotted that Jason has a creepy Twitter stalker and decided they needed matching accessories.

:hopelessness: I would actually swear they were the same person.

That's a beautiful explanation and it makes me appreciate him even more than before.
I think it also has to do with his appearance on SOI last summer. He had a really bad day at NHK, but I think he already looked very improved in the performance aspect. it's probably quite a few things coming together.

I think it was from hitting his SP in Greensboro of all places and then finally getting the PCS he deserved at Nationals. From after:

“I was shocked,” Farris said. “I had no idea it was going to be that high. I was expecting 80, at the most. The fact that I exceeded that by 10 points is amazing. I feel so great right now.

“It’s nice to know I have support; this whole year I felt self-deprecating and defeated, so the fact that I can even step out of a jump and still get that score is nice to know and will definitely motivate me for the future.”

First off, Welcome!

I agree with you. I was hoping we'd see what he was capable of at Nationals. I wanted him to do well more than any other skater, and I'm a particular fan of several.

I loved that after that skate, he did a little nod of the head and a very small gesture of satisfaction. Having worked with and around athletes for my whole life, it tells me something when an athlete gives a small acknowledgement to himself. A big overblown crying and carrying-on reaction tells me the athlete surprised himself by doing well.

Josh expected to do well.

I'm trying so very, very hard to keep a lid on my excitement for Worlds...

I'm vacillating between "oh my gosh he's in such amazing form this could be so great!" to "yeah but at Nationals and 4CCs he was the underdog, all the attention was on Adam and Jason, and here he's going in as the number one, different pressure" and then I go back to "but he keeps getting better and better!" and there's still a month til Worlds, so let's see if I survive the tension.

I am doing literally the exact same thing. I mean I feel like he's gained this confidence that allows him to build on good performances instead of crack under the pressure. But like you said, this is a different kind of pressure. When people expect you to do well, it's so much harder. AAAAHHHHHH!!! :hopelessness:

I'm not quite sure though Josh views himself as "the number one"? He finished 1st at 4CC, but Jason is still the national champ and didn't finish as high at 4CC as he could have had due to the quad attempt. IMO, there is no clear number one between the american man at this moment, which is a good thing. Especially since Josh and Jason go to worlds "together"(seriously, I think their strong friendship will help both of them).

The overall situation with Josh still looks more like "honeymoon phase" to me. Everyone's still surprised he did as well as he did, and most comments are complimaints not yet turned into expectations. Of course the tone might be different in the american media, and he's likely not listening to the same comments as I do anyway. But it's not as if people would expect him to medal.

The only thing I'm worried about is this whole keeping the 3 spots thing. But Josh knows that Jason is consistent and reliable. And I'm not sure Josh is writing off Adam like most people do. I hope he can focus on himself instead of those spots.

The three spots thing is also my primary concern, and it's also why I think/hope that Jason is going to shelve the quad for Worlds. Especially since getting Adam to shelve the 4Lz<< seems to be a lost cause.

All I can think of when I think of the three spots was the determination in Max's eyes and his voice when he swore they would get them back. Because he'd never wanted to be the third one again, the one left behind...

This probably sounds mean, but I wished Max would be the third man on the team besides Josh and Jason. With him, he might have his bad days, but I'd have a lot more faith in him delivering when it counts than Adam. And I do like him more, so... :slink:

I don't expect Jason to go for the quad at worlds to be honest. He knows the spots are on the line too.

I haven't given up hope of that perfect team. Perhaps next year, for Boston.

And it sounds like that is the case.

In @icenetwork Q&A, @joshDfarris tells me a mental breakthru has led to recent success: "I was hitting a brick wall that I had built myself"

Guess there's a full-fledged article coming up (or I hope anyway...).

^The same journalist (Nick McCarvel) also wrote that
Farris also confirmed that he'll add a quad to his SP for Worlds. Will keep quad in FS, too. It's been "consistent" in prac

He also added that Josh was "well-spoken" and "reflective" and that he was "impressed" by him:) Let's wait for the article.

Jackie Wong also commented on this that "He himself is very much reflected in his skating".

I'm glad Josh will add the 4T to the SP. He could kick some serious butt with it when he lands it!

Holding in excited squeaks.

Looking forward to this interview!
