Joshua Farris | Page 35 | Golden Skate

Joshua Farris

Have you guys seen this? It's 3 weeks old but Joshua is probably showing jumps to younger skaters.

And also photo from training.

Thx for the good finds -- I had not seen these Instagrams.

So at least as of Jun 6 (when the video and photo were posted), I doubt that Josh had any significant injury -- or else Damon would have gotten another elite skater to give the jumping demo.

(If Josh were injured, but the young skaters were dying to meet him and take photos, he could have made himself available off ice.)

Exactly, Damon would not have risked it if Josh was actually injured, so I doubt he was here. Likely it is as someone else suggested, that they saw the pictures of Josh in the sling and are regurgitating talk of an injury that is, by now, months old.

Josh also retweeted the ad for the Sun Valley show.

Tonight Josh is wearing my/our favorite sushi t-shirt again .
Oh, and BTW ;), Angela and he are in the front row at the Ed Sheeran concert :). #GiveMeLove

And once again, no arm sling :).

(Is it a filter, or does Josh look sunburned?)

ETA, on-ice group photo of coach Josh with skaters at Christy and TZ's World Arena camp this week -- along with fellow coaches Max, Mirai, and Rachael. (Plus Alexa, I see.)

ETA, link to IN's video of Josh's 2015 Four Continents FS (Schindler's List) - no subscription required, at least for now:

I think he may well be a little sunburned. It would not surprise me - it is summer over there, and he has very pale skin, possibly prone to burning. If he's going on jogs/swims/rides/etc outside, then it's quite possible.

I hope he and Angela had a good time at the Ed Sheeran concert!

Satine 94, I was about to post the same thing. Maybe they'll have a professional photographer there to capture some of the moments for the winner?

Too bad I don't have a few extra thousand dollars lying around to bid on that package (saving all my extra money to go to Worlds next year). Would be fun no matter which member of Team USA the winner gets assigned.

And bringing this video over from Max's thread, wherin there's a brief clip of Josh "training" a female skater, lol.

Since this was a Tom Z thing, I always wonder what his relationship with Josh is like these days. I would imagine they are friendly since he agreed to be part of this.

Am I blind or crazy or there is Joshua next to Gracie?

Yes, Josh is next to Gracie.
His face can be seen more clearly (IMO) in this goofy shot of the Champs Camp 2014 group:

... Side note- I can't believe no photos are allowed! If I were paying a couple thousand dollars I'd expect to get some pics! :p

I think the point of the "no photos" rule is to protect the confidentiality of Champs Camp -- so images are not leaked of the skaters' programs; training; etc.

USFS published a photo from last year's Champs Camp of the 2014 auction winners.
So I hope you are correct that a USFS-sanctioned person takes some photos on the winners' behalf. (Although the USFS person would be in control of what is photographed.)

The World Arena camp was a joint production of Christy Krall and Tom Z -- per the camp information page. (Sorry, I'm too lazy ;) to go back and look up the URL on the WA website.)
ETA, the World Arena's camp page had listed not only Christy along with Tom Z as the leaders, but also Josh along with Max, Mirai, and Rachael on the coaching staff. So I don't think the camp ever was intended to be only a TZ thing.
All of that said, I do hope that Josh and TZ are on friendly terms.

Thanks for the clarification golden411. I suppose b/c Tom Z posted the video that I assumed the event was hosted by him.

Anyhoo, I feel like it's gonna be a looong time until we hear about the new FS. I know he was going to Toronto at some point this summer to work with Jeff? Josh himself says he procrastinates so we'll probably hear right before the Grand Prix season? I really hope he does some senior Bs this year, but we'll see.

apgold & golden411, it makes sense that you aren't allowed to take photos all willy nilly for privacy reasons & I hope there are some photo opportunities. Regardless of the stated rule, I think most, if not all, skaters would still pose for one-on-one photos if asked by the highest bidder :p

If I had more disposable income, I'd put up some serious $ for just a short skate with a member of Team USA(and I have never skated before, so that would be interesting, lol). I think that would bring in a good deal of charity money, but I doubt they'd do this because a lot of stalkers/creepers would probably bid :scowl:

This discussion has led me to look more carefully at the bidding page.
And I have a feeling that the stuff under "Additional lot details" is mostly boilerplate from Charitybuzz -- not from USFS.
This part especially:
We expect all winning bidders and their guests to conduct themselves appropriately when attending an experience won at Charitybuzz. Polite manners and respect for the generous donor and adherence to any rules or parameters are a must.
In the case of the Champs Camp visit, I would think that USFS (as the donor) would make a point of telling the skaters to be polite and respectful to the bidders -- as much as the other way around.
OTOH, if MegaCelebrity X had donated some kind of visit with her/him to raise money for her/his favorite charity, the necessity of the Charitybuzz boilerplate would be more apparent. Better to say "no photos" as the rule, and then to bend the rule for a few photos. As opposed to not stating up front any rule about photos, and to have the bidders constantly bug X or X's handlers for gazillions of photos with X.

In the case of Champs Camp, I agree that it is the willy-nilly concern that is the important part of the rule.
If the bidders want a photo of themselves with Josh, for example ;), I have no doubt that USFS would make Josh available for that purpose. But more likely (IMHO) Josh in his Team USA jacket -- as opposed to Josh in his new FS costume (if he had not already gone public with it). That kind of thing.

Slightly OT, but I dislike bidding for things for charity as a rule. Primarily because the only people who win them are the rich people who can afford thousands of dollars, but may not be necessarily huge fans. Anyway, that's just a pet annoyance.

I'm sure we'll find out Josh's FS music eventually, but he may also just be enjoying the speculation, or happy to let, say, Max and Jason take the spotlight in that regard, ready to surprise everyone when the season starts.

^I dislike it too, but  An alternative that might bring in as much money (or even more) would be a raffle. The more virtual tickets you'd buy, the better your chances, but even if you bought 1 you'd still have a shot at winning. :)

That is a fair point.

So I recommend a slight twist. Make them bid for two spots. One for their precious spoiled darling, and one for an underprivileged/deserving/charity/raffle/essay kid. Keep it the same price, they still get to toss their money around, but give the prize to two people instead. Have a separate who deserves it contest, and the winning big funds both. Hell, you might even be able to pass a part of the bid off as charity if you do it right.

People with money will find ways to toss it around to get what they want, I just assume look for ways to use it to everyone's advantage. You want use your wallet to get your kid in? Fine, but you have to get another kid in too that does not have the wallet.

A couple of FYIs re the charity auction:
>> USFS itself is a 501(c)(3). So AFAIK, the part of the winning bid that exceeds the retail value of the package potentially is tax-deductible already -- as the auction currently is structured (meaning without a requirement for the bidder to share the pkg with someone underprivileged).
>> The photo of the auction guests at last year's Champs Camp showed two adults, IIRC. Not that there's anything wrong with that, IMO.

I am not a rich person, and I do not find fault with USFS for raising money for itself with the charity auction.
Some rich people are careful not to throw money away recklessly. That's how they became (and/or remain) rich ;). (That's not to say that they do not enjoy life's pleasures. Just not recklessly.)
And for many rich people, their time is what is priceless -- and more valuable than their money. So I am finding it hard to imagine that a rich person who doesn't care about skating would waste her/his time and effort to travel to Colorado Springs and show up at Champs Camp.
If the rich person is accompanying a loved one who really does care about skating [and who was the reason for bidding on the USFS lot], I don't have a problem with the rich person being motivated by the desire to give a loved one a special experience.

Compared to the raffle idea (which I don't hate), I think an advantage (for USFS) of the charity auction is the possibility of future generosity from a winning bidder. If the bidder and her/his guest have an absolutely fabulous Champs Camp visit, perhaps the bidder will be inclined to make future donations (unrelated to the auction) to USFS.
[Another possible advantage of the auction would be a slightly decreased risk of stalkers, IMO.]

Hope Josh does not mind ;) that we (myself definitely included ) often end up talking about other stuff in his thread .

ETA (Jul 18), back on topic re Josh :):
Just noting that tonight he retweeted this afternoon's Sun Valley tweet promoting that he will be performing in next week's ice show. So he apparently does not expect any problem with skating then.

Sadly it seems problems have cropped up for poor Josh... again.

Ryan Bradley has replaced Josh for tomorrow (Saturday, July 25) show.

Notice it says Josh in the link, but it is Ryan on the page.

you can see the cashed version with Josh here

A poster on FSUniverse said there is a press release that claims it is "due to injury" but I have not found that press release.

I was really hoping this ice show was a good sign!

But the that disturbs me is that he either a) got injured, again between now and the 18th, or b) he has issues with self-assessments of his current state. This is kinda last minute, if it was an prior injury (like the arm sling) I would think he would have had some idea last week and have pulled out sooner. Being not ok and hanging on till the last minute, makes me sad for the poor guy.

Noooooooooo, that's too sad. I'm so much worried about his injuries, because I know they can ruin your carrer. There are plenty of skaters whose carrer was marred by injuries. I just hope he is not one of them. I hope it will become better.

In some ways I am more worried about him having life long issues than I am his career. He seems to have so many so often, I worry he is going to be in pain later on. Poor guy.

Josh :hopelessness: Please address this on your Twitter..

It would be nice to get a little more explanation. It could be a stupid website glitch, so confirmation would be nice.

I just hope he is ok, or at least will be.
