I love Junhwan. There's such personality to his skating, and his jumps are huge. He started training with Brian partly to improve his jump technique and it has showed. I hope in the coming seasons he'll get more programs that really bring out the maturity he's capable of and he can show us his depth even more.

As to which jumps he has, off the top of my head, a great Sal, and he has been working hard on the toe and the loop.... I'm bad at remembering who has which quads.

Aside from having similar body types, natural charisma, and effortlessly gorgeous jumps, I don't think that Yuzu and Junhwan are very similar. Their on ice personalities and style seem pretty different. Yuzu has this wildness and intensity on ice, while Junhwan seems much more relaxed.

I agree. I thought he was more of a mix of Yuna and Yuzuru, but he's his own personality. That's good! We shouldn't box skaters like that.
 
...He's 5'9'' now? Wasn't he 5'8'' during the olympics? What are they feeding him?!

I hope he knocks out all the growing during the summer, so he can have a safe season.

I think he was talking about having the entire package :biggrin: I don't think it's fair to directly compare them either, but I also realize how inevitable it is for such a young skater. At least he's getting compared to the best. But yes! Watching the two of them are entirely different experiences, and that's why they're so good.

According to his current ISU profile, he is 175 cm, or 5'8.8" for people who use ft.

He is definitely one of the taller skaters amongst current singles skaters - especially given his age, although as he is 17 this year, hopefully his growth spurt will (finally) end!
One thing that is a good sign, is how he has been able to largely maintain his flexibility and lines, so his growth isn't hindering that side of his skating, and Orser/coaching staff are clearly taking their approach slow, until his physical condition stabilises. Orser has also had experience coaching skaters on the taller side, which might help to a degree.
 
Hello! Toronto fan of Junhwan's here. First, I must say this is me being a big worrywart and NOT based on any knowledge of Junhwan's whereabouts, but when I saw that South Koreans were among those killed and injured by the murderer who used a van to kill people at Yonge and Finch area, I became worried: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/toronto-van-attack-victims-1.4632821 (scroll down to section on injured and killed foreign nationals) for him. The Cricket Club is not in the immediate neighbourhood, but is close enough that it could be an area that the CC family might go on an outing for restaurants, shopping etc. So, does anyone know if he planned to remain in South Korea after the ice show, or if he was to head back to Toronto?

Again, this is not intended to panic anyone. There are many people of South Korean heritage living in Toronto and there are likely many South Korean visitors here, though maybe not as many during the summer. So Junhwan is almost certainly safe.

Finally, I would like to extend my condolences to South Korea for the loss and injury of their citizens after this cruel attack. Toronto is usually a very safe and welcoming city, and I stand with the majority who are thrilled with the diversity of Torontonians.
 
As a fan, Im worried what’s going to happen with him with all these Orser coaching changes. Apparently, orser is only head coach for Evgenia, Jin and Hanyu. So where does that leave Jun hwan who I always assumed worked mainly with Orser at TCC instead of the team approach Jason Brown signed for up for, for example. I’m worried he’s going to get pushed out like Elizabet was

I doubt Orser is only coaching three skaters, all of them have their own team, and all of them have different necessities, spins, jumps, SS...TCC has a coach for every of that, they know how to divide their time, Elizabeth was different. Jun is turning senior, a real season this time, and he has potential, he can become another story of success form TCC (like what they do with Javier) he is making history already, I dont think he would push him apart
 
I'm not worried about Jun either. Despite not being mentioned as one of Brian's primary skaters in the Icenetwork article, I feel like his spot at TCC is pretty secure. In his interviews, Brian has always seemed really invested in Jun and his future success.
 
Yeah, I agree- not worried. Not only is jun not a direct rival to brown(8 years older) nor boyang(4 years older), brian seems very much invested in jun as one for the future. And TCC's coaching system/staff has been well explained. Putting it in a more gossipy/blunt way, I'd say he's pretty high up brian's pecking order with the promise(and consistency) he shows at 16.
 
Yeah Brian seems to really believe in Jun (and for good reason I might add ;) ) and they have a good coaching relationship. I also think that it's in the best interest of TCC to have a skater from a nation that's very likely going to be the next Japan of figure skating.
 
he is so tall, isnt that a bad thing? someone put a book on his head, no wonder why he was injured, and is having issues with his quads
