This was a great final flight- I hope the other levels and disciplines can equal it. Victoria Rackohn is a wonderful talent to watch. Brittney Rizo was solid and Alexe Gilles has a real star quality.

I started rooting for Alexe the moment I spotted her on practice ice, looking so polished and confident. ;)

I loved her SP -- she struck me as looking much more mature and confident (and taller!) than at Lake Placid JGP. I was thinking she reminded me of someone else, and was scratching my head until I realized to my shock that it was Aliona Savchenko. Both are blonde with braided hair, and skated to this near-East-ish music. The funny thing is that I don't even like Aliona, I find her a little stiff. In contrast, I find Alexe very soft and musical. But in any case, it's not at all bad to be compared to one of the top pairs skaters in the world, right?

My feed totally died during Alexe's LP! I'm trying to download it again so I can watch it properly. I'm so happy for her that it went so well. She looked so happy and confident before she started, it really felt like that she couldn't possibly fail, and she didn't.

Overall good program

Were you in the arena or watching it on Ice Network? If the latter, I think it didn't quite capture the impact of this program; she is lovely to watch. All she needs are the triples to be at the top

ITA about Amanda Dobbs. I liked her overall performance in the SP and her FS totally reinforced that. She had solid jumps and nice spins. She was elegant and had good speed. She didn't have the difficulty of the other ladies, but everything she did she did very well.

She'll be 15 years old in August. With her overall 5th place behind 3 skaters who may move on to the senior level, she should easily get 2 JGP assignments.

Victoria Rackohn's leg over the back shoulder sit spin position was really eye-catching.

how impressive was Alexe Gilles? compared to last year's junior champioin. i know her jumps are solid... what about spins and flexiblity and artistry? does anybody know if she will be a senior next year?

I thought she was the only one with real "star quality" among the junior ladies. She has natural artistry like Caroline, but unlike Caroline she looks like a young lady with mature body and she's so stunningly tall! (even though she's only just turned 16 a few days ago). Alexe's artistry/musicality/polish were really good. Her spins was a bit slow sometimes, and in fact her general skating was somewhat slow. She's not the most flexible skater, but then none of the top 4 skaters were that flexible. Alexe has a Biellmann, which even looks good, but it slows her right down, and exacerbates her slow-ish spins.

She had a 3F earlier in the season, including at Lake Placid JGP, so I think she's closing to having all 5 triples. And her 3Lz looked REALLY good, so high, straight, and easy, with great flow out on landing. It competes with any top senior lady's 3Lz. I think all Alexe needs is more speed/power, to be competitive on the senior level. If she can in addition turn that 3Lz-2T combo into a 3-3, then she'll really be a contender. Since her season will probably end after National's, I hope she uses the long off-season to really work on her speed and the jumps, and come back strong next season!:love::love:

The rest had potential, especially Amanda Dobbs, who skated two good programs (but I wouldn't call her a real "contender" until she can land more than 3S and 3T).

I think Brittney Rizo has a lot more star quality than Gilles. She has the jumps, her hair and dress looked fabulous and polished, and she really knows how to sell a program. I couldn't take my eyes of her. Alexe was great, too, but she needs to do something with her hair (it shouldn't look like "practice hair",) when she's competitng. Yes, she's smooth & graceful, but where is the spark?

Angela Maxwell, could really use a new hairdo/makeover for competitions...and loose that icky choker, please! I really like watching her skate, but she just needs to be polished up a bit, so that she looks like she's competing, not at a sloppy practice session...

In a press conference after the medals ceremony, both Alexe Gilles and Brittney Rizo said they'd probably move up to seniors. That's probably both nationally and internationally, though I wonder if Brittney could get any international assignments. (Kristine Musademba didn't take part in the press conference.)

IMO, Alexe impressed enough that Rachael Flatt has only a one fall cushion to make the World Juniors team.

Amanda Dobbs was 5th in the novice division in 2006 as a pairs skater. That may explain why she has so few triples and yet does them so well. Otherwise, she has been one of the few skaters to successfully pace herself under the CoP system.

ChrisH...Gilles did not have quite the fall international season that some of the other junior world eligible skaters did have. And at the JGPF, Flatt finished 2nd with a clean programs, whereas Gilles did struggle a bit in both her SP and LP. Alexe may make it to JW if Zhang declines going. From the interviews, it doesn't seem as the Zhang camp has made up its mind at this point if they are certain about going to JW.

I assume this means that she will not go to Junior worlds?
