Kanako Murakami

I saw the TEB short programs on NBC today and Kanako was stunning! She really knows how to use her arms and the choreography and execution were great. I wish we could see her at the Grand Prix Final but, alas, it's not to be. Her next competition will be nationals, right? I hope she does well there so she'll be at Four Continents and worlds!

All the best to Kanako at Japan Nationals! May her tears of sadness and crushing disappointment last year be changed to her trademark smile of joy and satisfaction at a job well done. Like Kurt Browning, I just love Kanako's smile. And while she may be struggling with the technical aspects of her skating, her skating will always resound with me.

A brief translation of what Kanako said after her competition. Seems like she mentioned the layout rearrangement which was barely decided in the morning the day of her LP. After she fell the first 3F, she became a bit nervous. Then she somehow skipped through the second 3F and that made her worried even more. She didn't know how to deal with the situation which has never happened before... (Anyway, she managed to pull in a 3T right before the music ends...) She said she will continue to adjust during the off-season and as an athlete, she of course wants to medal. (So looks like she won't retire)

Will be very grateful if anyone could add more details of her interview! :o:

Thanks for the update as always skatefan22. Was so tired from the Christmas week that I fell asleep before the final group in the Ladies FS. Sad to know Kanako won't be either in the World or 4CC team, but relived that apparently she won't be retiring. I really, really hope she gets a jump coach or attends those jump seminars where the JSF gets the likes of Ilia Kulik. I believe those seminars were of great help to Satoko and Shoma.

Will now try to find and watch of her FS. Whatever Kanako's results, I enjoy watching her skate.

Thanks, Maria! For me, that FS is the most weird performance from her...You have no idea how shocked I was watching her just skate through that second flip. She already did the entry, then, nothing happened, like doing a run through. :noshake:

Just watched the video of her FS (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3jnqr0_kanako-murakami-2015-japanese-nationals-fs_sport). I think Kanako herself was shocked too by what she did (or did not do) as to that jump. :( I think it was a simple mental error, which in this level of sport can be costly indeed. There was no bright, beaming smile at the end of her skate but a grimace. I did the enjoy the skate though and thought she looked beautiful in blue.

I think this must be her worst senior season though she did have that one win in Europe. Looking forward, as she apparently means to continue her competitive skating, she must fix her jumps. Judging from her enormous first 3T in her 3T-3T SP combination, she is not without jumping talent. It is an enormous task, but as someone who enjoys her skating and wants her to have good results, I want her to succeed.

I watched the FS pretty late, but I only knew what the scores were and I did not see the protocols or comments at all. So after that painful fall on the first 3F, I knew it had to be scary knowing that there is a second 3F coming. I did not expect her to skip the second one, but when she did, it was pretty understandable. Yuna Kim also skipped the 3F in her FS at 2009 TEB because she apparently had some problems with it in practice.

Anyways, I'm devastated to not see Kanako at 4CC or Worlds, but it's still a relief that she is not thinking of retirement yet!

I did see some skaters doing their entry to a certain jump more than once because they were hesitating. But didn't know that Yuna also did the same as Kana - through the jump. Guess such situation is not as rare as I have imagined. I am glad that Kana managed to add in a 3T in place of the missed 3F though. That way, she saved some points.

Yay, great news! Kanako can compete at 4CC, so this season is not over yet for her. :party2:

Best wishes for her at 4CC.

Great news!! I just feel that Mao always treats Kana as her younger sister and this time she intentionally did her a big favor. I am in tears.

Thanks for the info. I hope to see her get her SB scores at 4CC. She won the event there in Taiwan 2014 so I hope the good memories will inspire her to do her best.

I think Mao's decision to withdraw in Kanako's favor is of mutual benefit to them. :) I wish both of them well.

I'm glad Kanako has another chance to compete this season after a promising showing at Japanese Nationals! :cheer:

I'm so so so happy to be able to see Kana again this season. I really loved her LP and I hope she does well! :hap93:
