Kao Miura

Shoma's assessment on Kao, as we are approaching Japanese Nationals:

Machine translation:

"Kao's speed and the dynamic nature of his jumps are his most eye-catching points. It takes a lot of strength and stamina to skate fast, and the faster you skate, the harder it is to control your jumps, which is a huge disadvantage, but Kao doesn't seem to have such disadvantages. In terms of explosive power, he has the potential to be one of the top Japanese athletes on the world podium."

Alas, Kao Miura had a very bad Free Skating (he wasn't alone in this!) and ended 9th with 141.22 (8th overall with 230.09). I'm not even certain of a spot at 4CC (although his Season Best may enter in consideration).

Here's his Short Program, starting about 5min20:

Oh no! Does this mean what I think it means?! Sounds like Kao is done for the season?

Adding: I see someone says by "rest of the year" he means until the end of 2024, not the end of the season. Hope he is in good enough shape to go to 4CC! Hang in there Kao.

Yeah, I can confirm that Kao means by the end of 2024, not the end of the season. I translated the last paragraph by myself and the intention seems pretty clear to me:

"For the time being, until the end of the year, I will briefly quit skating so as to not hate skating, so that next year I can once again get a fresh start, shift my mind, and do the best I can do."

He's making an early New Year's resolution! Stay safe, Kao!

This is Kao's interview from Kiss&Cry / Maisupo website which was taken in the week of Japanese Nationals but I have not seen it linked here in his FF. Here it comes with parts translated to English by a fan, but when you folllow the link below you go to the Japanese original and you can use your browser tool to have it translated in full. Enjoy!

I really hope that he's healing well and will be at his best for the Universiades!
