Kaori Sakamoto

I just saw that Kaori has announced that she will retire at the end of the 25-26 season and plans to coach after her retirement. (Don't know if this was posted elsewhere.)

I figured this type of announcement might be coming soon with the release of her program choices, but I'm still gonna be sad to see the beautiful fireball Kaori fade away. 😭

I'm sure her cheerful attitude will serve her well as a coach (even though I will miss it on the ice). 🥲

If you’re like me and don’t have Instagram, here is the YouTube version of Kaori’s Time to Say Goodbye from Dreams on Ice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuGh-PTM6XI

I was happily surprised by Kaori’s decision to coach right away. I hope she has some interesting students and I look forward to rooting for them someday! I have so many questions. Will she work with her own coaches? Will she start with young children, or will someone more advanced seek her help? Will she push her students on the back when they compete like her coach does 🤭

All the skaters who know Kaori say that she is a lot of fun and makes people smile. I hope and believe that she will be a fun coach who can bring sunshine even to the serious situations. 🥰

In all seriousness, I’m not ready for this part of her story to come to an end (and maybe I never will be). I watched her beautiful SP with an ache in my chest. I wouldn’t mind it at all if Kaori won all the stuff next season, but bittersweet emotions aside, I will always remember how Kaori became a legend through her own persistence and received many blessings in the world of figure skating.

i wonder if it's possible for her to join Mao Asada's new coaching team. imagine how amazing that would be! Kaori would be amazing with kids. no matter where she goes she's going to make a fantastic coach, she truly has the right mindset in her own skating/competing to teach younger skaters.

I kept putting off watching her sp today from NHK Trophy because I knew it would make me sad at 6 in the morning. I just watched it and truly a wonderful last skate on the grand prix. I'm not ready to say goodbye. 😭 I am so unbelievably happy Kaori gets to retire on her terms when so many skaters don't. Brilliant competitor and human.

I understand that Kaori Sakamoto is going to skate both Short and Long programs at the Team event? I thought that she was the evident choice for the Free Skate, but I believed that either Mone Chiba or Ami Nakai would skate the Short Program.

Yes, Kaori is listed on the schedule for the Women SP tomorrow:

Yes, that is the rumor I'm hearing. I'm a bit surprised, if she wants to do both. But the women's individual event is the last one so she would have more time to prepare for it than men, ice dancers, or pairs.

I'm supporting Team USA for the gold, but I just can't bring myself to root against Kaori. Ever! Go out there and shine, you 3x World Champion!
