Kazuki Tomono

I am primarily a Shoma fan, but I want to congratulate Kazuki for everything he has achieved this Worlds. He didn't manage to stay on the Worlds podium, but I feel this season, and this quad, really, has shown how much he has grown as a skater and performer and competitor, and as a fan I'm really proud and I hope he continues to enjoy sharing his skates and performances with us. He's truly the mood maker of Team Japan, the life of every party! I also really admire how determined and reflective he is, that after the FS ended he immediately analyze what he can improve and what lessons he got from this experience.

Just want to leave this here as well, because I'm sure this is 100% Kazuki's idea and Shoma and Yuma are just following along :LOL::LOL::LOL:

Kazuki just skated into the ice rink with his suitcase for his business trip to Montpellier
I can’t believe that!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: I’m literally laughing out loud

I wish he will keep skating as long as possible but, when he’ll decide to stop, he won’t have any problem starting a career as an actor

A friend sent me a link for the Gala so I got to watch..Kazuki was great..shirt hanging out..but having a blast! Also, at the end of the gala, Vincent wanted a pic w all of the guys..so he, Morisi, Keegan, Shoma, Yuma and Kazuki lined up..there is a video on Twitter of it..

Bills was as hilarious as expected. Loved hearing the crowd clapping along (though I was so hyped for it, I was probably the first person clapping along). The use of luggage surprised me and sometimes reminded me of my futile attempts to carry around a large bag of luggage in France (Pro tip: don't. Especially because France has large amounts of stairs). Kazuki may have been waving in my direction, but I could be wrong. (Note to self: send calming vibes to Kazuki next time. Do not use the same method you used for Shoma...)

Thank you @rabidline for your kind words and funny clip! I love how Shoma and Yuma are so chill, and Kazuki is super extra 😂

@yuumagical thank you for your report! I'm glad you had a great time!

For those who missed it, he's the most part of today's Bills:

I don't know about you guys, but knowing the lengths he went through to put together his costume and the suitcase was the cherry on the cake, it made it even better! How did he manage to pull off that choreo carrying a whole suitcase LMAO. It was brilliant!

Some great pictures of 'Bills' by Sponichi:

Really nice fan cam:

Cheered loudly for Kazuki. It's all over now. My hands are swollen from clapping, and you can be sure some of it was for Kazuki. The jumps weren't quite there, but he really gave it his all. The audience was ready and waiting for his energetic La La Land's step sequence. What a season he has had. He was hilarious at the gala!

Thank you! I really love how he always manages to look around the places he competes in. The last pic is super cute!

Kazuki and his legendary suitcase are now back in Japan:

He was sat next to KanaDai in the plane:

It seems that the idea of using the suitcase as a prop in Bills was Daisuke's! Really love how literally everyone pulled together to make that EX happen 😊

These are the Kazuki-related videos from CBC television's broadcast of Worlds with Kurt Browning's commentary (no short programs were aired).

2022 Worlds Men LP Group 4 Warm-Up Clips (CBC TV 720p):

I had to upload his long program on Streamable because Dailymotion rejected it due to the music.

Thank you so much for that! That was really interesting commentary. I loved the fact that they highlighted Kazuki's skating skills, which is something often overlooked. OTOH I thought that saying that his flip technique is the same as Shoma's is a bit harsh (sorry Shoma!) 😅

On a different note, Misha posted about Kazuki on his insta: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbwd3aerQvV/
It says, in Japanese, 'I'm happy to see you grow' 🥺
I wonder if they're gonna see each other this summer. I really hope so!

Man, I wish I could listen to Kazuki's NowVoice. Not being a Japanese speaker sucks sometimes 🥲

Kazuki is already at the SOI rehearsals, hanging out with his good friend Koshiro Shimada

Honestly, I don't know how he does it. I imagine he's absolutely exhausted after all the travelling and back-to-back competitions! I certainly would be like 😴😪

Happy Friday, everyone!

My friend messaged me about NowVoice yesterday but I just listened to Kazuki a couple of times to share with you, again in very rough translation.

- Change of plan, Kazuki is going to talk about the Worlds today instead of answering questions:clap:

- Just before the Worlds he won the Coup de Printemp cup. His performance was not great (actually almost worrying ahead of the Worlds) but he was really happy at his first ever win abroad regardless of the size of the event.

- At the Worlds, he achieved all he had practiced and all he wanted to deliver in SP, though there were still various points he could have improved to compete better with top skaters (such as axis of 4S, overturned 4T, L3 StSq, skating, spins).
FS didn't go well with most jumps failing. It was due to insufficient preparation and practice towards the Worlds, but he admits that he was not good enough after all. He learnt what he lacks from the experience though. It was invaluable that he was able to skate 4th in the final group at the Worlds, such a big step for him. He has been on a podium this season, but felt that a skater's attitude/ resolution makes a difference in the end, more so than technical skills. He aims to continue improving further with such attitude and go to the Worlds again, not as an alternate this time.

- He received a "Super-sub, go!!" call at Frankfurt airport when talking and laughing with all (other Japanese stakers I think). They explained the situation on the phone and asked if he would participate in the Worlds, to which he said yes. They asked him to keep it to himself until the formal announcement. However it must have been quite obvious to others, as he had been on a call crouching in the corner clearly in shock and returned quietly. It was probably the most shocking among his substitute calls in the past. He felt as if he was grabbed by his ankle and thrown back into the season and struggled to switch his mind that day. First he called Kao offering his sympathy. Kao confirmed his withdrawal and wished Kazuki good luck. He then realised that he really was going to the Worlds and was resolved. He was able to concentrate from the first practice the following day, thanks to his past experience.
He then recalled his sub history: Junior Worlds (the hardest as he was asked on the day of departure), NHK GP, 2018 Worlds, 4CC, then 2022 Worlds. He has never made an error in SP when he skated as alternate!

- He didn't have extra clothes for changing but found a coin washing machine later in Luxembourg. He didn't have his costumes for the gala either. The previous night, Fuji TV staff got him all the costumes at Uniqlo (I too saw the Uniqlo branch in Montpellier without knowing): shirt and trousers, a red tie and glasses. He bound the glasses with hair rubber so they won't drop in jumps. It was Daisuke's idea to use a red carry case instead of a briefcase, which turned out to be a success with colour matching with his tie despite no prior practice. He is truly thankful to everyone for their support to get through the Worlds and it made the experience even more memorable.

- Kazuki had a jumping competition together with Shoma and Yuma at ice shows in Japan (Prince Ice World) at the start of the season. The experience helped him improve quality of his quad jumps and made such a difference this season. He looks forward to another PIW appearance (though he has not been invited yet?) as he loves both giving and watching the performances.
It was so cool competing alongside with Shoma and Yuma at the Worlds. He was intensely watching them at the victory ceremony and wants to catch up with the two(y)

Love these photos, love this gala, love Kazuki's entertaining skating. 😁 I've noticed the suitcase has a 'sauna' label on it, lol! Can anyone decipher the word that's after 'sauna'? Looks like the first syllable is 'da', but I can't be sure.
The label is saunaboy サウナボーイ;)
