Kim's representatives end Orser's coaching relationship threads merged

Note to future GS members: If you want an ounce of credibility in discussions moving forward, don't call yourself [skater_name]addiction. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Well, I don't think that just because your name is that you don't have credibility. Its more the content of your posts that would lose you credibility.

Although in this case, I'd just like suggest that trying to bulldoze everybody over into one position is probably not going to go over well with posters (will be ignored) since we all have our own chain of logic we're following here, although we all tend to be stubborn at times when we have an emotional tie to something.

Is this similar in a sense to what we are hearing from and about ATS - that Brian was not giving enough attention to Yuna - and then that Brian was told Yuna needed time off so please Brian by all means work with other skaters? How confusing is that?

I am not willing to call Brian a liar because I don't know all the facts. I also don't know if ATS is as guilty of treating Orser as badly as he has claimed.

What is undeniable is that they fired Brian and then kept silent about it. I don't know what ATS thought would happen next or maybe they were incapable of thinking this through?

And why does it feel as if ATS could care less about the other skaters and coaches at the Cricket Club? Perception is often stronger than reality. Isn't it supposed to be the job of an agency to handle situations like this rather than creating PR nightmares through a lack of action and sheer incompetence?

But what else could Brian do when the tension at the Cricket Club started effecting the other skaters and coaches. I don't blame Brian for being very upset, going public when he did or feeling the need to protect his skaters.

Wasn't that something Brian was practically worshipped for by Yuna fans - the way he protected her? My gosh, the way Brian handled things in Vancouver for Yuna seemed close to perfect.

Why does it seem so strange that he would do the same for Christina and Adam?

His intentions may have been to protect Christina and Adam in some part but I don't think it resulted in that end. Rather, I think there is probably MORE distraction for the two and emotional turmoil when they should be preparing without those distractions for the season.

I'm beginning to think this was all unnecessary. And the translator may hold a good CHUNK of the blame. What WOULD be ironic is if Yuna and mother think their translator is actually good at English (would they really be able to tell the difference? maybe that's a little ridiculous but I wouldn't be surprised if they have absolute faith in her or her resume etc considering she's always been a sore subject with Yuna's fans and they've held on to her for so long).

Because Yuna's side might feel something was going wrong with Orser and he prove it by his own lying and the timely open-up on their split. It is intentional.
Changing a coach is nothing special in the skating world.
All the disturbance was started by Orser (or IMG), a liar using media.

That is a very biased view LOL.

I still don't think Brian has come out and attacked Yuna - but would agree some of his actions may have been hurtful to Yuna. Apparently Yuna and her mom/agency have
Brian is no longer responsible for protecting and training Yuna. Did ATS and Yuna herself fail to realize that? Talk about living in a bubble :sheesh:

Brian isn't responsible for protecting and training Yuna. True.

Considering the closeness of the relationship though, it was less a matter of duty and more a matter of us wondering what went down to lead to such a split. I mean seriously, if it was a split, no surprise. That it was so nasty makes me think there is so much more to the story.

yes, I was wondering the same after last pages, the weight on her shoulders to win must had been tremendus. And you would think a 19 year old Olympic Gold Medalist would now be relaxed and happy, working when and what she likes, but all fuss around her name and this media obligations, which channels will show her new music and which magazines her new dress, sounds too much, and not much happy stuff. It is beyond me to understand all the pressure. And it seems there is no end there..With all the zillion money she makes, does she enjoy any of it? If I were her, i would buy disneyland and sit in there with my friends.

She felt such a responsibility to South Korea as their symbol. I'm sure she doesn't understand what its like to live for herself. I'm wondering if the pressure to continue and then Brian urging her to continue caused some resentment regarding it. If the Mao incident was used by Brian to try to get her to help her regain her competitive fire and continue (not saying it was, and if it was not necessarily anything serious), that could come off as a very hurtful thing. I guess we'll never know.

all this talk on the responsibilties of the coach reminds me of a line from SOI's Fun & Games.

"Coach Doug Leap, the skater svengali. Part mentor, part mom, part psychologist. He uplifts and inspires... Like a Wonder Bra."

LOGICAL ANALYSIS...Brian Orser's stance.

1. I love Yuna and helped her OGM.
2. Yuna is too young to make a decision.
3. I'm not greedy...I only charge $110 to Yuna which is same to everybody.
4. It is all business whoever I coach. It's OK except Mao.
5. I'm too proud to treat Yuna differently from others.

Really...Nothing wrong...
Brian is 100% right.

But this stance could nullify the special relationship with the 19-year old young kid.

Except he did behave differently than he has in the past with this. And that is going to the media like the way he did. I don't think Brian really showed he went at this from an objective, unemotional angle. His words, sure. His actions, no. Not that I blame him. I just read that letter from her translator Ms. Choi or w/e and that just makes me :disapp:

As for the $110, not sure but isn't he the head of the club? He probably makes a separate salary off of that, the rink is probably expensive for membership, so he took a lower hourly fee? I don't think we know the whole picture about the pay thing (besides it wasn't responsible for the split) so I wish people would stop bringing up the numbers lol.

As much as I admire Brian, I think he is emotionally unstable at the moment. He reminds me more and more of a lover scorned rather than a professional coach leaving his student. Maybe Yuna did straighten him up as we speculated lol

It does look like more than a normal coach - student break up. Brian couldn't stand the fact that Yu Na is leaving him. If there really is something like that, more power to Yu Na. But for God's sake, Brian has stopped talking, Yu Na's team should not be chasing after his mistakes any more. Hope they'll have peace at last.

Thank you for your kind replies.

One thing that I didn't comment before is this quote
I don't know how you define the maturity, but Yuna achieved in her respective field more, than, I guess, most of the people on this board and she certainly can take the responsibility for her actions and even for other people. She may be impulsive, she may be stubborn, but I don't think she is immature.

When I read it, I cannot help but laugh. "She may be impulsive, she may be stubborn", she may be ego-centric, she may be a *****,..... "but I don't think she is immature." Get my point? Can you explain it in a more logically friendly way? Thanks.

Mature people can act immaturely sometimes. It is also defined over a very long period. Not one incident.

I think this applies with both parties in this scenario. Taking responsibility for your actions, yes. But that is sometimes not possible immediately when thrown into an unexpected situation because people are human.

LOGICAL ANALYSIS....Yuna Kim's stance.

1. I am the queen, and how hurtful it is to hear that he is flattered by another women.
2. He should have known that I was not happy when I just skated off in practice and did not return his emails.
3. And what hurt me more is that, instead of comforting and pampering me, he gave me more distance when I gave him those "aloof" signals to show my displeasure.
4. I thought if I left the coach position empty, he would know something definately wrong about our relation and thus make every attempt to comfort my feelings. NO, he dumped me!!! WAAAH!!!!
5. So I wrote on the twitter that "I know exactly what’s going on now." The key word is NOW. I didn't truly know his heart, but NOW I know he could dump me so easily.

Really...Nothing wrong.....
She is 100% right, in her own mind.

Lol  I think this is a bit more extreme than the thought process of Brian described above (and a bit colored towards one side ;) )

I know whats going on now was probably referring to the fact he was hitting the media with the interview (which she was probably most hurt by given Brian's immediate backtrack on whether she is a mature adult that makes her own choices or not. I don't think he meant it that way.)

Your previous points besides 5 might have a grain of truth. But only because that is pretty much how almost every relationship gets hairy. Lol.

First, thanks for your response. I am really surprised that somebody would even agree with me to any degree. David appears more sensitive to others' emotions, so he naturally has better relation with Yuna. There are some men (whether be gay or straight) simply so dumb at women's emotions that you sometimes would love to just hit them in the head and say, "wake up".

Well, David is very close with Yuna. Far closer than Orser/ Yuna. So who knows.

After the news article about his e-mail that mentioned that he had an offer from Japan, my questions about this situation were answered.

Why Yuna have trained alone in the Cricket club since she had come back in Canada.
Why Min-jung decided to leave the club, along with Yu-na.
I don't think Yu-na and Min-jung could train as comfortably as they used to do in the club where several Japanese junior skaters trained together.

He lied about the offer in the interview with Korean media before.
He made a contract with IMG in May and now is a technical consultant for Japan.
The source of his first interview about this matter comes out from IMG NY.
What else do I need to know?

I hoped that Yuna would retire and live a 'normal' life, like other ordinary 20-year-old and that Orser would be a coach of Mao, teaching a perfect 3A. However, as Yuna mentioned before(something happened whenever she was seriously thinking of retiring and that made her keep skating), I'm afraid that she'll continue.

Sorry about my terrble English.

I doubt that's the reason... Japanese skaters. I REALLY doubt it. :sheesh:

Lol, have been away from skating since the Olympics (and also enjoying the lovely summer, soon to be over sadly), but what brought me back the other day was seeing this over on Yahoo News.

And since then I have been reading the boards, both fortunately (made me look up old videos on youtube of Mao), and unfortunately (reading the bitchfest on the boards).

My take:

a.) making a mountain out of a molehill, but not surprising, knowing the participants and the outrageous skating fans. Same brouhaha as when Michelle & Frank parted ways. And since Yuna seems to be modeling herself after Michelle in every way possible, to be expected.

b.) Yuna's a diva, which is why I've never really liked her (lol, and this coming from an Oksana Baiul Fan; btw I never enjoyed Oksana's infantile diva ways either, so be it). But unlike Yuna, Oksana's skating, et al, made up for everything else.

c.) Not a big fan of Brian Oser or Canada and Canadians when it comes to figure skating, and in particular the 2010 Olympics held in Canada. So don't really care that he & Tracy Wilson (used to be a fav commentator of mine at one time, no longer since her bias of Yuna over Mao) are having it rough. They all three, including Yuna, deserve each other.

d.) bringing Mao into the fray was a low blow; her past speaks for itself ~ always humble, gracious, a lady, never speaking bad about her competitors (unlike me, lol) ~ and everyone knows that throughout her career she has been loyal to her country first & foremost, never leaving, even jeopardizing her chances at gold because of her insistence on staying & training in Japan. And this loyalty extends to Tarasova, whom she has refused to leave. Therefore it is only logical she would never leave her country to train in Canada. But whom I wonder about is Orser? Hmmm, he's the one that has given me pause for thought. His remark about the 3A to Yuna at Worlds, etc. I'm pretty sure deep down inside he would love to train someone like Mao whom has that rare quality not very often seen in skating ~ the desire to be the best ever (including relearning jumps and learning even more difficult jumps!) ~ tons of skaters have talent, but I can count on one hand those that have stayed in skating to become true legends (Grafstrom, Henie, Plushenko). That takes longevity, not just one Olympics, nor two, but three & beyond! And in order to do that, one must always stay ahead of the pack, in fact put oneself so far ahead no one else can touch him/her, not rest on one's laurels. Mao has that desire, Yuna does not. Being an Olympic Champion is enough for 99% of those skaters throughout history, but only that 1% consisting of Grafstrom, Henie, and Plushenko went beyond. 'nuff said...

e.) Yuna's the best female skater I've seen in my lifetime when it comes to the complete package. She's got the artistry of Oksana Baiul when it comes to entrancing the judges (not the soul imho) combined with the athleticism of the best jumpers in history; she's a "natural" jumper in both terms of height, power, flow, and complete rotations (e.g. Irina Slutskaya, Julia Sebestian to name a few). As a long-time skating fan since the 70's I recognize that, which is why I'm sad to see that she lacks that rare quality to stay in the game to become a legend like Grafstrom, Henie, Plushenko. I saw that early on. As a skating fan, I can only imagine what she could have become if she had the mindset of a Mao Asada.

f.) this too shall pass. :)

I don't think its fair to say her not continuing means she's not "legend." She's won every medal there is to win and beat her own record so many times (with the field far behind) there was no question about her dominance in the sport.
6 foot tall is tall but 6 foot 1 is where you start to get really tall. Lol no, I don't think so. ;)

I don't think Mao's character was ever in question. Bringing her into the fray was not cool but I still don't think that is an attack on Mao's character whether she or her agency contacted Orser. Yes the stories don't seem to match exactly but we'll never know. Mao's agents seem to be firm about this.

As for whether Orser wishes he had someone like Mao to coach... :p, I'm pretty sure he was more than satisfied with someone like Yuna who I'm sure he believed could do the triple axel. ;)

Anti's?

Apparently in Korea there are people called antis. Antifans. Not the normal hater either.

They attack Yuna's character by pretending to take her side, etc. Swamping people with half truths and riling up people's emotions. I can hardly believe so many exist, but its like the most wired country in the world right?

Highest density of internet users or something. Seoul has like a population of 25 million in smaller than the size of New York City? (By comparison NY has about 20 million). Seoul is supposedly the 2nd largest city in the world (50% of Korea's population). Given my experience driving through NYC (don't ever try to do that lol SEA OF YELLOW TAXIS that drive crazy), I can imagine the level of fervor something like this can stir. And just how much trouble thousands of these Antis can cause.

I just remember the Youtube wars LOL before these Olympics. Was ridiculous.
